violence returns to ferguson, after the grand jury does not indict officer wilson in the shooting of michael brown. while here in chicago, a calmer scene as protesters march through downtown. we'll have a *live report. and, newly-released evidence gives a more- detailed description than ever, from the ferguson grand jury. good morning. i'm dan ponce. and i'm lourdes duarte. thanks for joining us on the wgn morning news at *4 a-m.* of our weather. >> and >> after interest and we are expecting brings to clear up. much cooler. yesterday at this time we were at 50 degrees. today we will be

has been a while. with some overnight construction ... dan? a little bit? the south bound to have the left-wing closed until 6:00. a bit of a slowdown but nothing major. at 142 we've had this reduced to one lane for some time from indiana. the good news is, that should be picked up by tomorrow. the construction will end. otherwise you're looking good. we do have a story developing from overnight, three vehicles involved in a car accident with a car into a building including act a bus. wash for slow spot in that stretch as the watch that crash. you can see damage to the vehicle. two people were on the bus and were injured. sent to hospitals with none of life- threatening injuries. >>we have a story

developing overnight. purchasers in ferguson taken to the streets when they decide not to indict the officer in the death of michael brown. >> at least a dozen building set on fire cars overturned, store windows smashed. guns were fired into the air. 29 people have been arrested. police say the violence is worse than anything they saw back in august just after brown's death. >> i don't have any hesitation in telling you i did not seek peaceful protest tonight. i am disappointed. announcing there weren't peaceful people are they're announcing that wasn't the case, but i do say that this did spin out of control. >> to st. louis county prosecutor says scientific evidence backed up by eyewitness testimony led the grand jury to conclude that the officer shot michael brown in self-defense. >> the family reacted with this statement, your profoundly disappointed that the killer of our child will not face the consequences of

this action. attorneys for officer darren wilson also issued athey said, "officer wilson followed his training and followed the law... we would encourage anyone who wants to express an opinion, to do so in a respectful and the violence in ferguson comes, despite president obama's personal plea for a *peaceful response to the grand jury's decision. he said people must *respect that decision. >> we are a nation built on the rule of law. we need to accept that this decision was the grand jury's decision to make. americans agree with it and americans who are disappointed. even angry. understandable reaction. >>protests have been mostly peaceful. demonstrators are geared up to head back to the streets this morning. tonya francisco is at state and jackson with the details. >> the morning. did together

here at the corner of state and jackson are around 7:00 a.m.. another protest is scheduled for later. the protest that took place here in chicago mostly peaceful. no arrests here. it actually turned out to be an impromptu display. protesters and activists had planned to gather at the if public safety headquarters at 35 and michigan. but after that the protesters took to the streets. >> who street? our streets! >> heading east and then north, they headed over to lakeshore drive shutting down both sides of the drive. while police officers made a largely peaceful track. elsewhere, jesse jackson denounced the grand

jury decision calling it is said commentary and not credible, also calling for peaceful protest. >> i urge people to discipline because violence will not solve the problem. it could be a distraction. >> after exiting the drive, protesters headed north to the thompson center were the crash with police who deployed the same tactics they used during the native summit. calling for more demonstration. >> shut down the sheep streets of chicago and the highways, >> >> 9:00 a.m. city hall! >> despite protesting, there's still a lot of anger and distrust of police the

protesters feel they must focalized. they are gathering at seven a m at the corner of state and jackson and another protest scheduled at 9:00 a.m. at city hall. that is right outside the mayor's office. we will keep our eye on those protests and bring you updates through the day. live at the corner of state and jackson. back to you. >>in other parts of the country...mostly peaceful protests. in oakland, california...hundreds blocked the eastbound lanes of interstate 580. they opened fire hydrants to flood some lanes. police closed the other side of the freeway for safety... it re-opened after about an hour. the scene was similar in downtown seattle, where demonstrators blocked interstate-5. four arrests were reported after the protesters and police exchanged volleys of bottles, rocks and pepper spray. in new york city, protesters gathered in union square, then marched to times square.

following the grand jury's decision, evidence including the testimony of officer wilson has been made available to the public for the first time. andrew spencer gives us a first look at what the grand jury looked over for three months. >> amid chants of no justice no peace the grand jury met starting in august eventually finding no probable cause to charge the officer with a crime. >> it's a serious charge. this simply cannot decide it on anything less than complete and critical examination of the evidence. anything less is not justice. >> newly released photos part of the evidence made public after the decision. the show him in medical examination after shooting and killing michael brown carried in the testimony to the grand jury he described brown punching him through the window of his patrol car. after that happened, the next thing he said he remembered was have to get this guy away from me, what do i do to not get beaten

inside my car? almost witnesses corroborated at least some credit altercation at the car, the descriptions the cave of the shooting was a very. >> many of the same witnesses acknowledged it didn't actually see the shooting. some ran for cover, some related what they heard from others or they said what they assumed happened. >> the prosecuting up attorneys said the grand jury could not rely solely on wilson's testimony. >> in any case, the target or the suspect has the most interest in the case. >> the witnesses who stories stayed consistent were consistent with each other and consistent with the physical evidence all african-americans. most of the witnesses did agree that brown was moving toward wilson when the officer killed him although one witness said brown was standing still. >>keep it here on wgn t-v for the latest on the developingwe'll have updates all morning long, with

a chicago cop has been stripped of his police powers while the department investigates a suspected drunk driving stop and confrontation with merionette park police. a department statement does not name the morgan park district officer involved in the situation sunday afternoon. it *does say the officer may have fired shots at the suburban officers who pulled him over. now that defense secretary chuck hagel has agreed to step down, president obama may choose a *woman to succeed him. michele flournoy is the number-three official at the pentagon... the undersecretary of defense for policy. she would become the first *female defense secretary. as for hagel, he says he'll continue to serve until his successor is confirmed by the senate, possibly after the first of the year. he >> it's been the greatest privilege of my life to lead and to serve. to serve with the men and women of the defense department and support their families. >>hagel and obama reportedly disagreed over the

administration's defense strategy. white house officials insist that hagel's resignation was a mutual decision, and that a different kind of leadership is needed -- particularly in the fight against "isis." hagel was the only *republican on obama's cabinet. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. president obama comes to town this afternoon to sell his new immigration plan. he'll speak to members of the polish american association at the copernicus center in the jefferson park neighborhood. an estimated 16-thousand poles are living in illinois illegally. the president's executive order allows un-documented parents of u-s citizens, to stay in the country for three years if they pass a background check. a high-ranking member of mexico's infamous sinaloa drug cartel was sentenced to 22 years in prison. alfredo vasquez was a trusted friend of the cartel's captured leader, joaquin guzman. he was the man who received shipments of cocaine from mexico to chicago, and distributed them to other american cities. the f-a-a has announced an overhaul of its air traffic control system, in the wake

of a september fire that shut down its aurora radar center for almost two weeks. the head of the f-a-a says, when the overhaul is done, the system should be restored to 90 percent of full operation within 24 hours of a major outage. security will be improved... and f-a-a facilities will improve communication, flight planning and sharing of weather data. big changes in the weather. we went from balmy and wet over the weekend... to ice and snow yesterday. weather delayed more than 400 flights at o'hare and midway and more than 100 flights were canceled. and the national weather service says we may see temps in the 30's and more light snow tomorrow. is this true? >> it is. what if i said no? it is true that. light snow. the '30's would be an improvement though for much of this month. we have been colder than normal. today we don't even make it to 30. it's 21 right now. light snow is falling. the dew

yesterday. the sweeping front moved through changing from rain to snow. now we find numbers in the mid-20s and upper teens. some light snow showers continue to move through. we are expecting these snow showers to exit quickly. clouds will be on the breakup. today's temperature up to 28. typical high is 43. much of this month is colder than normal. we will be like that for much of the 70 forecast. tomorrow we make 35 degrees. generally calm conditions possibly light snow in the afternoon and evening. thanksgiving will be breezy high 29. friday and saturday will warm up highs reached the upper 40's saturday and sunday. >> a few things to watch out for. with a flashing lights downtown at madison. expect delays there. on the o'hare expressway traveling eastbound one lane blocked until 5:00. watch for things

to be slow and there. word of a crash on mid wacker drive at lake shore drive. we will be posted on that. and video of a crash that happened overnight. the bad crash with seven people injured when a car stuck struck act a bus. it happened around midnight on pulaski and ontario. the driver of the car and 2 people on the bus were injured. they were sent to area hospitals with non- life threatening injuries. protesters took to the streets of ferguson, missouri to vent their anger over a grand jury's decision not to file criminal charges six oaks in the police shooting death on michael brown. some of the protests turned violent and destructive. at least a dozen buildings were set on fire. cars were overturned, and store windows smashed. several people fired guns into the air. at least 29 people have been arrested since the mayhem began. police say the violence is worse than anything they saw in august, just after brown's death.

the scene was similar in downtown seattle where streets were blocked off. four arrests were reported after bottles and pepper spray was thrown. and in new york city they gathered in union square and marched to times square. >> the evidence used to reach the decision is now being released to the public for the very first time and it includes photos of the officer during a medical exam after the confrontation. but injuries to his face, it supports his testimony that brown punched him through the window of his squad car. the prosecuting attorney says the statements taken after the shooting were buried. >> many of the same witnesses acknowledged they did not actually see the shooting. some ran for cover, some related what they heard from others or what they assumed had happened. >>prosecutor robert mccullough said the physical evidence and several african american witnesses backed up wilson's contention that brown was moving toward him when he fired. keep it here on wgn t-v for

chuck hagel has agreed to step down, president obama may choose a *woman to succeed him.

michele flournoy is currently the number-three official at the pentagon... defense for policy. she would become the first *female defense secretary. hagel recently expressed frustration over president obama's military strategy, east. obama insists, he and hagel agreed that new pentagon leadership is needed. the united states and iran failed to meet yesterday's deadline for an agreement that would see iran dial back its nuclear ambitions. so once again, the deadline was pushed back. the new deadline is next july. hope to reach a deal on the *substance of a final agreement. but secretary of state john kerry says there are still significant points of disagreement. police in rome has slapped a 24-thousand dollar fine on a tourist... who was caught carving his initial onto a wall of the coliseum. the 42-year-old man was damage... after a guard caught him carving the letter "k" into the brickwork. the graffiti was found on a ground floor section of the nearly 2-thousand-year-old structure. it's the 5th tourist caught

carving graffiti on the coliseum's walls this year. stocks continued to close high on monday. the dow added 7 points. nasdaq jumped 41. s-and-p lifted 5. redbox is raising d-v-d prices starting next month. rentals will increase by 25-percent, climbing from a- dollar-20 to a-dollar-50 a night. blue ray rentals are jumpingbeginning in january, video game s will see a 50- percent increase to 3- dollars per day. redbox hopes to bring in more revenue from a shrinking audience that's turning to services such as netflix. more than 3 million people believe their radio waves emitted by wifi and other devices are harming their health. the conditions is called electro magnetic hypersensitivity syndrome. headaches, feeling lethargic and nauseous, having breathing difficulties and even paralysis. extreme cases include cancer and
