another night of violence in ferguson, missouri, as protests spread across the nation. plus -- officer darren wilson breaks his silence about the shooting that killed 18-year-old michael brown. and, an east coast storm threatens to slow down the busiest travel day of the year. we are *live with the latest. good morning. i'm dan ponce. and i'm lourdes duarte. thanks for joining us on the wgn morning news at *4 a-m. we made it to thanksgiving weekend. >> it's thanksgiving eve. and i've had a few people or tommy it's like friday. >> not for you. >> we will be here. she has the day off. she has more seniority than us.

this happened in a home of the sin louis suburb of hillsdale that agents were responding to reports of a person barricaded. >> not clear at this time if this has anything to do with the ongoing protests but we will keep you updated. a developing story overnight. police now have help from the national guard. >> peaceful protests over the grand jury decision not to indict the police officer in the shooting death of michael brown. soon, vandals started throwing rocks and bottles at police. michael brown. at least 44 people were arrested in ferguson overnight. >> we saw some protesters that were out there for the right reasons. but there always seem to be a few people who are bent on preventing this from happening. >> volunteers are boarding up the doors and windows of businesses that weren't burned down... and cleaning up the mess left behind by

vandals and looters. others are patrolling residential neighborhoods with guns, to protect *homes from the violence. protesters have taken to the streets over the decision in ferguson... in about 170 cities across the country. in oakland... for the second night in a row... the demonstrations turned violent. protesters blocked the freeway... and set fires. police arrested several who lit fires and set off fireworks in front of their office. thousands marched through the streets of new york city... blocking traffic on some of manhattan's busiest streets. protesters marched through times square and across the manhattan bridge... disrupting traffic at the lincoln tunnel. delays were reported for vehicles going in and out of this main artery into the city. drove straight into a crowd of protesters. police say the car struck a woman lying in the street. the victim suffered minor injuries to her legs but is expected to be okay. authorities say the driver is cooperating with police. for the first time, officer darren wilson is publicly giving his account of what

happened. wilson described, for a-b-c, the moments *after the shooting. >> you had never shot your gun before and now demand instead. >> after the supervisor got there i give them the rundown. i said i had to shoot somebody. he said why. i said he grabbed my gun and he charged me he was going to kill me. >> see you killed him first. is anything you could have done differently? that would have prevented that? >> no. nothing. >>wilson says he has a clean conscience about what happened, because he's confident he did his job properly. protests in chicago have been peaceful for the most part. hundreds of protestors spent most of the day outside mayor emanuel's office at city hall. they had hoped to stay there for 28 hours because they say a young, black person is fatally shot by a police officer in the u-s

every 28 hours. but police threatened to arrest them after the building closed. so about 6:30 last night, the group left and marched down state street and michigan avenue, followed by a heavy police presence. the protestors then dispersed shortly after ten without any problems. two of chicago's most prominent spiritual leaders are speaking out on the ferguson decision. the reverend jesse jackson and father michael pfleger say the justice system is flawed and called for changes to the nation's justice system. >> the law, we fight for the law. >> this is corrected by bad law. this is a not acceptable pattern. until we have the courage in the country, the value of black life in america we need to equal playing field, we will fail until we do so. >>president obama had ferguson on his mind when he was in town to talk about immigration reform. the president gave a speech at the copernicus center yesterday. this brief visit was planned before the ferguson grand jury decision. although most people came to hear what he had to say about deportations, the president also spent time condemning the violence in ferguson.

that came into the window through a bedroom just before 11:00 last night. he is now in critical condition. police say casings were found in a wooded area of crossed. no word on who or why. today's the busiest travel day of the year, and it could be even more hectic because of weather on the east coast. >> it's not going to be pretty. erik runge is live at o'hare airport, with more.. erik? >> of course i am smiling because i am not traveling. but there are millions who will be traveling over this holiday weekend. so far so good at o'hare. you can see behind me the security alarm is starting to fill up. delays could happen later today, some winter weather is moving into the northeastern part of the country. could have some trickle-down effect to those traveling out of our area. chances are, we will see delays. at least 18 airports could be impacted with this

cleveland police release video showing how it will year-old was shot and killed by an officer. he died sunday after being shot twice. police say he refused

to put his hands up and he was reaching for a weapon. the weapon was fake. cleveland's police chief said the officer is it trained to shoot above the waist when they're facing some of it with a weapon. >>federal judges in arkansas and mississippi have struck down bans on gay marriage in those states. the judges ruled the same- sex marriage bans are unconstitutional and deny guarantees of equal protection for gay couples. voters in both conservative, southern states approved the bans ten years ago, voting for amendments that defined marriage as between a man and a woman. the attorney general in mississippi says he will appeal the decision. arkansas authorities have not yet decided if they will take action. gay marriages in both states are on hold until the states respond. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. a federal judge has ruled that work on the proposed lakefront site for the george lucas museum cannot start without permission from the court. a lawsuit has been filed

over the location of the museum - a parking lot south of soldier field. "friends of the parks" claims it is a protected area. a judge ruled yesterday the site cannot be altered without an order of the court. an elderly couple is suing central airlines, the operator of the cargo plane that crashed into their living room near midway airport. the attorney for raymond and roberta rolinskas says, the couple was left emotionally traumatized by the november 18-th crash that left the plane just inches away from their bed near 65-th and knox. chicago police officer aldo brown is pleading "not guilty" to charges of using excessive force. a convenience store security guard says brown kicked him and violated his civil rights when he arrested him two years ago. the city of chicago settled the accuser's lawsuit for 100- thousand dollars. brown remains reassigned to desk duty. chicago's overnight winter parking ban starts monday. parking will be banned from three a-m to seven a-m, from december first until april first.. whether there's snow or not. the ban covers more streets if there's more than two inches of snow on the ground. violations could mean getting ticketed or getting towed. the switch was flipped in

demonstrations like this rally in washington have shown no sign of the violence seen in ferguson, >> we want to do this with common sense. >> there have been isolated incidents. the in oakland, protesters set fires across part of interstate 580 completely blocking it. in ferguson, cars overturned. after rolling it back, if you try to set it on fire before being chased off by police. two dozen volumes of transcript detail 70 hours of testimony before the grand jury from 60 witnesses and three medical examiners. >> what i found, having read almost every single word of the grand jury transcript is there was no case. there was no case to prove beyond reasonable doubt. no case to indict. >> she says the family does have a civil case for

morning long, with *live reports from tom negovan in ferguson starting at 6 a-m. visit our website for more, *wgn t-v dot-com slash- ferguson*. a developing story overnight. a 50-year-old man was shot in the head in his home by an apparent stray bullet. it came through the window of an upper level bedroom. it happened just before 11 last night in the 2100 block of west garfield. the man is in critical condition. police say casings were found in a wooded area across garfield boulevard. no word on who was firing the shots or why. no one is in custody. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. police in suburban northbrook have released this video from a smash and grab robbery last week. a group of thieves drove a stolen car into the louis vuitton store at the northbrook court mall just before 5 a-m november 18th. police say the group got away with tens of thousands of dollars in high-end purses and other items in just 21 seconds. no arrests have been made and investigators have not

all of its for sale, online, at "cubs dot com." nasty weather on east coast could hold up some people. >> they are expecting rain and snow to hold up flights for some hours. as it looked to o'hare, i see lots of lines there already. >> good morning. there are some long lines. so far so good at o'hare. as the day continues, we could start seeing delays. some have already happened especially for those coming to the east. o what are we seeing so far, especially with this weather on the east coast. >> it's one of the busiest travel days of the year if you are going to or from the east coast we are already seen delays. 107 delays at laguardia already. >> when do we expect those to start trickling down to chicago? >> probably start seeing this affect our around midday. and then through the

afternoon and evening. >> we know we should be checking the status of our flights before we get out here, what are the other things that can help make this easier? >> your smart phone is a lifeline. have your travel maps and your telephone numbers traveled in so you get on a canceled flight you can read book right away. >> some of the airlines are starting to already waive the fees. >> a lot of them have codes out there if your travel plans are flexible you can get your flight changed. >> this is also a big family holiday. some things to make it easier to get through security and to make it easier. >> children under 12 don't have to remove their shoes. and a lot of airports have family checked in lanes for security if you see that make sure you use it it will get you there quicker. >> when we are going

of record highs. the nasdaq inched up three. but home depot is facing at least 44 unresolved civil lawsuits over its massive data breach... in september, 53-million customer emails were stolen and 56-million credit card accounts were compromised. the home improvement retailer said several agencies were looking into the data breach... it has already completed new security improvements to prevent this from happening again. parents and kids are *letting go of barbie as the top toy this holiday season. a new survey showed *elsa from frozen* is the new favorite, replacing barbie's 11-year run at the top of the list. about 20-percent of parents plan to buy "frozen" merchandise for their daughters. you may be one of them. maybe even markets as well. barbie hasn't lost all of her yet.... nearly 17 percent of parents said

they still planned to purchase the iconic doll. >> i bought all of them. of what all the frozen ones. elsa... everything. >>here are a few stories that are trending online this morning ... at least 47 people are dead, as a wave of bubonic plague spreads across madagascar. the plague is carried by fleas, and spread by rats... and it has already infected about 140 people, including two in madagascar's capital city. health officials are launching an aggressive pest control campaign, to try to slow or stop the disease. bubonic plague can be treated with antibiotics. ariana grande fired back at bette midler writing "bette was always a feminist who stood for women being able to do whatever the efff they wanted without judgment! not sure where that bette went, but i want that sexy mermaid back." earlier this week, midler criticized the "problem" singer for her raunchy image.
