black friday madness is well underway across the country. we are *live with shoppers hoping to score some big deals. plus -- protesters in ferguson, missouri, target stores in a black friday boycott. and, the bears got fed to the lions this thanksgiving... highlights, coming up. >> tasty. >>good morning. i'm dan ponce. and i'm erin mcelroy in for lourdes. thanks for joining us on the wgn morning news at *4 a-m. >> i thought the bears were off to a could start for the first 10 or 12 minutes. >> he didn't know he didn't get to watch anything.

who better to do this story thanpatrick elwood is live in rosemont with more. who better? let's say, john and dick and joe and on and on. but here we are at four or five a m at the outlet mall its pact here. busy as candy it has been this way for hours. but some people are even taking in some shopping after their thanksgiving. for many it has become a tradition to go shopping the night of thanksgiving and early in the morning on black friday. retailers will typically produce certain items just to get to input toward knowing they might lose money but hoping you will spend money on some other things. some people on a tight budget, a limited amount of money, this is the way to go. >> absolutely phenomenal. everything is 50% of. >> went to walmart once and

it was like a stampede of people. pushing and shoving out of the way. so another year of doing this. >> as we come back here live, this is the line for burberry. their only allowing so many people in at one time. that's repeated to the mall. retail experts say more people have more jobs of their spending a little bit more money. not a lot but just a little bit. >>the protest over a grand jury's decision in the branching out. a group of people, angry that police officer darren wilson wasn't indicted for shooting brown, staged demonstrations last night outside "big box" retailers like wal-mart and target, urging people to boycott "black friday" holiday shopping. national guardsmen patrolled outside the stores, to prevent violence and looting.

the ferguson protest spread all the way to new york, where a small band of the macy's thanksgiving day parade. they broke through barriers and confronted a line of police officers. at least seven people were arrested. some activists even tried to launch a "hashtag stop the parade" campaign online. but the parade went on as scheduled. malls and stores across the country have been busy all night long - with big crowds of black friday shoppers. andrew spencer shows us how some of those crowds got out of control. >> stores that waited until midnight for the black for the open had no problem trying big crowds cheered as usual few of those crowds and that in trouble. someone at the wal-mart in houston captured this video as people try to clean a black friday deal by laying on top of tvs. rough and tough that police had to get them off. elsewhere, crowds were called, shoppers shuffling into stores with determination. after the turkey is the way the black friday faithful crowd into the square to celebrate the official beginning of the holiday season. it's been

even more an official in recent years at stores open earlier and earlier. some as early as thursday morning. to make a point of marketing themselves waiting until friday this was not to encroach on a holiday. hideaway, blind outside becomes all the way to the checkout as shoppers greg presents for their loved ones and maybe even something for themselves. >>thanksgiving mass -- lead for the first time by archbishop base cupich. it happened yesterday morning at saint mary's in lake forest. the festivities then took cupich to the catholic served food to the homeless. >> it's important for us to realize there is a chronic need day in and day out. we need to provide that to a family. if i could be part of that i am happy to do that. >>this year... the catholic charities served up a warm thanksgiving dinner to more more than 150 men, women, and families. the bears failed to move the ball against the lions

top-ranked rushing defense, and now they are virtually eliminated for playoff contention. the bears visiting detroit on thanksgiving for the first time since 1999. they got off to a good start with jay cutler hooking up with alshon jeffery for two touchdowns in the first quarter. then the lions went on a 34- to- 3 run... matt stafford threw for 390 yards and two touchdowns to calvin johnson. meanwhile matt forte was held to just six rushing yards on five carries. the bears lose 34-17 and fall to five- and- seven. much more coming up in sports. a wave of smash-and-grab burglaries reached the north austin neighborhood yesterday. the owner of j-bee's clothing, on west north avenue, hopes to reopen this morning. someone in a stolen pickup truck rammed the store's brick wall three times until it gave way. then 15 people scrambled through the opening and stuffed garbage bags with a hundred thousand dollars worth of high-end jeans and other clothing. it was all over in less than 5 minutes. >> it's really sad. a

thanksgiving you're supposed to be with your family and then to have to deal with this. >> i feel sorry for whoever did this. their day is coming. >>the store can't reopen until the gas, water and electricity are restored. the owners say, if security cameras and a brick wall won't stop thieves, *nothing will. police in gary, indiana are looking for a man accused of shooting two women, killing one of them. the shooting happened at about five a-m yesterday after an argument inside a house in the 1000 block of matthews. police say 31-year-old kennette oneal ran out into an alley behind the house and was shot several times and died at the scene. a second woman was found shot in the backyard. detectives say the suspect is oneal's boyfriend. he was last seen driving a 20-06 gray chevy trailblazer. repair crews are making progress in restoring power to the hundreds of thousands of east coast residents forced to spend thanksgiving in the dark. the outage came at the hands of a powerful nor'easter dumped snow from main down to west virginia.

in maine, warmer temps helped crews cut the number of those effected down from 110-thousand to just 32 thousand. and more than 133-thousand homes in new hampshire are stuck without power this morning. officials say it could take several more days for some homes to get their lights back on. as we braved one of the coldest thanksgivings we've seen in a few years... in california, heat was setting records. the national weather service says parts of san diego hit 85 degrees yesterday.. breaking a 111- year-old record by two degrees. and the 90 degree heat felt in santa ana -- toppled the record from 1922 of 86 degrees. records were tried or broken in more than 12 other cities across the state. and demetrius always helps us by shonas places that had it worse than us. >> show where some video by you have people hanging out in california. today we are

launching a nationwide crackdown on the drug cartels that have corrupted local government officials in city after city. president enrique pena says, the last straw was yesterday's discovery of 11 decapitated and partially burned corpses next to a road in guerrero city. the new crackdown will allow the mexican congress to *dissolve local governments that have been infiltrated by drug gangs. pope francis is en route to turkey this morning for a historic 3-day visit. the pope is scheduled to arrive in ankara in about an hour. he is scheduled to meet with the turkish president and then travel to istanbul tomorrow for a meeting with the head of the orthodox christian church. this is the pope's first visit to turkey - which is mostly muslim. he is expected to speak out about the persecution of christians in the middle east - particularly syria and iraq. patronage is alive in north korea. dictator kim jong un has filled a top government position, by hiring his little sister.

the new appointment makes kim yo jung a "vice department director" of the powerful "workers' party central committee." yo jung and her brother spent yesterday touring a cartoon studio in the capital, pyongyang. at least a thousand homes in australia are damaged after a storm slammed down on the eastern coast. severe hail caused almost 90 thousand people in brisbane to go without power. roads became littered with glass and debris... and a number of schools got enough damage to cancel classes for today. the army is now headed in to help clean up the mess. city officials are calling the storm the worst to hit in three decades -- estimating 100 million dollars in damage. how about a big mac with your prayers and communion? a group in new jersey is pitching the idea of building a mc donald's inside a church - as a way of re-vitalizing churches in america. they're calling it "the mc- mass project". the group says christianity is unable to capture modern audiences and millions of americans are leaving churches every year. they are trying to raise a million dollars on the

good morning. whenever playoff speculation was beginning to grow, the bears started fast and then fizzled. blinds gobbled them up on thanksgiving day. some stuff up his sleeve, how about the game opening touchdown drive? first quarter touchdown in seven games, color had five at six. it's 7-0. later in the first, stafford back to throw for detroit. jeered alan get him. the ball comes out and alan fights ever before possession. the bears are at the five. after a 2 yd loss, cutler heaves it up and you can't guard this.

demonstrations last night outside "big box" retailers like wal-mart and target, urging people to boycott "black friday" holiday shopping. national guardsmen patrolled outside the stores, to prevent violence and looting. one of the three autopsies on the body of michael brown is being criticized, because of who performed it. shawn parcells was an assistant in the private autopsy done for brown's family. he says he's a forensic pathology expert and a professor at washburn univerity. but parcells isn't a doctor... he has only a bachelor's degree. and the university says he's not on the faculty. parcells says, sometimes he performs autopsies with no licensed pathologist in the room. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. the bears two- game winning streak is over... along with their playoff hopes. they got off to a fast start in detroit, with two touchdowns from alshon jeffery in the first quarter. but the lions answered with 390 passing yards from matthew stafford and two touchdowns to calvin johnson. bears lose 34-17 and fall to five- and- seven.

illinois' governor's mansion needs some fixing up. and incoming governor bruce rauner says he'll pay for it, out of his own pocket. rauner and his wife toured the mansion last week, and say it has major water damage. the new first couple will pay for some of the repairs, and try to raise money for the rest of the repair bill, without using taxpayer money. police in gary, indiana are investigating a shooting killed a woman and left another on injured. it happened at about five a-m yesterday at a house in the 1000 block of matthews. 31-year-old kennette o'neal ran out into an alley behind the house during a domestic dispute. she was shot several times and died at the scene. a second woman was found shot in the backyard. the owner of j-bee's clothing in the north austin neighborhood hopes to reopen his store today, after a thanksgiving morning smash-and-grab that cost him 100 thousand dollars. thieves used a stolen pickup truck to knock down a brick wall... then they stuffed sacks full of expensive jeans, jackets and other merchandise. a cellphone store in saint

louis was also targeted by smash-and-grab thieves. an s-u-v, belonging to a local politician, was stolen, and rammed three times into the "all wireless" store. down, the thieves scurried through the store, helping themselves to phones, laptops and accessories. they even tried to empty out the cash register. some people are speculating that the theft was related to the unrest in nearby ferguson. >> do you think it's connected? >> i hope not. >> how do you protect yourself? >> i don't know what else to do. >>for now, the store is out of business until extensive repairs can be completed. two kids in new york are safe and warm again... after being buried by a snow plow. while two boys were building a snow-fort in the parking lot across from their home wednesday.. a snow plow buried them in a pile of snow. when the boys didn't return home a couple hours later, the parents called police. officers spent hours searching the neighborhood for the boys... eventually returning the parking lot.. that's where the boys'

toddler son accidentally shot her in the head monday night. according to police, the 26-year-old was changing her infant daughters diaper...when her 3-year- old son found a semiautomatic handgun under the sofa.. and accidentally fired the fatal bullet. she died an hour later. the grandmother came home and supposedly found the two children covered in blood. the boy taken by police for questioning kept repeating "mommy shot." pictures snapped by a hiker who was killed by a bear back in september have been released. the 300-pound-animal were taken by darsh patel just minutes before the attack. the images show the bear getting closer to the group

in each shot. the 22-year-old rutgers student was walking in the apashawa preserve in new jersey with four friends.. the bear chased them after being attracted by the camera. it was immediately euthanized. here are a few stories that are trending online this morning ... an emotional facebook post about ferguson by an n-f-l player is going viral. new orleans saints' benjamin watson took to facebook tuesday... voicing his reaction to the decision not to indict officer darren wilson. the 33-year- old tight end voiced his anger with the injustice... and saddened by the violent reactions in the suburb. right now... the post has been shared over 400- thousand times. we can look forward to cheap gas, well through the holiday season. "opec" oil ministers, meeting in vienna, have voted *not to cut their production of crude oil, to try to prop up oil prices. the price has fallen 40
