breaking news in the suburbs - police are searching for cab driver who crashed into a home, trapping the homeowner in the wreckage. a rude awakening for dozens of car owners this morning - as chicago's winter parking ban kicked in overnight. and hundreds of travelers encounter unusually long lines at midway airport on the busiest travel day of the year. good morning. i'm lourdes duarte. dan is off today. thanks for joining us on the wgn morning news at *4 a-m.* demetrius ivory has a check of our weather. >> good morning. does it feel like december? >> is to date december 1st?

the front of the house and the driver took off. no information right now from police about that driver. the cabot belong to the flat rate cab company based in lombard. they declined to comment on the situation only saying police had been in contact with the business and the manager said would be in later this morning. the home owner was taken to hospital with minor injuries. >> he ran away. and know they are looking for him. he drove through the house. my dad and my dog or both trapped under a wall. my dad is or the way to the hospital. but they are ok. >> there is a crew in the process of boarding up this home. firefighters say the building inspector will come to check out the structural integrity of the building. we have a man who lives in the house taken to hospital

that happened outside the 'funky buddha lounge,' on the 700 block of west grand, early sunday morning. police say a man was waving a gun in a crowd, when he was approached by the off- duty officer. they say the officer ordered the man to drop the gun...when he pointed it at him. the man was shot multiple times and remains in critical condition. another person ran off with the man's gun. a funeral will be held today for a nordstrom employee who was shot and killed at the store on michigan avenue, during black friday shopping. police say marcus dee shot his ex-girlfriend, nadia ezaldein, then turned the gun on himself. she was a seasonal employee who had been working at nordstrom since october. the store was closed on saturday, to give employees time to process and grieve. it reopened yesterday. family and friends left flowers near the site of the shooting. an elderly couple was found dead in their home on chicago's far south side from carbon monoxide poisoning.

relatives asked police to conduct a well-being check on saturday, after clemmie and nancy jones didn't show up for thanksgiving dinner. officials say the carbon monoxide came from a faulty natural gas appliance in the home, in the 87-hundred block of south dorchester. a chicago city council committee meets today to consider a plan to raise the city's minimum wage. mayor emanuel wanted to hike the minimum from 8-25 an hour, to 9-50 an hour next summer, and boost it to 13 dollars an hour by 20-18. now, emanuel wants to raise the initial hike to 10 dollars an hour, and give employers an extra year to reach the 13-dollar level. the committee is expected to vote on it tomorrow, and send it to the full city council. a 40-dollar bid at a massachusetts auction house got a man an old desk... and a whole lot more. after phil le-clair got the desk home he looked for a missing drawer knob and an envelope fell out of a hidden compartment. it's contents were potentially life changing.

stories and was always laughing. >>his mother says kara- george, who wore number 53, had suffered several concussions and experienced times of confusion. he texted his family before he disappeared, apologizing for being an embarrassment. darren wilson is no longer a police officer. more than three months after wilson shot and killed michael brown in ferguson, missouri, he has resigned from the police force. wilson's attorney said more than a week ago that his client was considering stepping down, because the brown incident has brought new threats against his fellow officers. since wilson left on his own, his income and police benefits stop immediately. the ferguson police force the city will not make a severance payment. now is the time for our city to begin its healing process with the citizens of ferguson and the police department. we understand the past three months have been difficult for everyone involved. >> the police force will create a citizens review

driver ran away. he is not in custody. this happened just after 1:00 a.m. in the 200 block of gregory avenue. the taxi slammed into the home, the driver was scorned by the time of emergency crews got here. the man who lives in the house suffered minor injuries. paramedics took him to the hospital for observation. police in the suburbs have not revealed any specific information about the taxi driver. the name of the vehicle indicates the cab belongs to a flat rate cab company based in lombard. a company dispatcher says police have been in contact with the company, declined to comment on the situation referred us to the manager that would be in later this morning. >> he ran away. i know they are looking for him. he drove through the house, my dad and my dog were trapped under the wall. my dad is on his way to the hospital. they're both ok. >> firefighters say this

yesterday. new chicago crime statistics show murders are down three percent this year through november. that's despite shooting incidents being up 10 percent from last year and the number of victims rising 13 percent. the city is on pace to have the fewest killings since 19-65. a chicago city council committee today takes up a proposal to raise the city's minimum wage... from 8-25 an hour to 13 dollars an hour by 20-19. the first step in the increase -- to 10 dollars an hour -- would take place next july. the committee is expected to approve it, and send it to the full city council for a final vote tomorrow. one of mayor emanuel's challengers picked up another endorsement. cook county clerk david orr announced his support for county commissioner jesus garcia. orr says garcia would be a better mayor because he's humble and he's someone who will listen to people. orr says garcia is also the progressive alternative to emanuel's well financed campaign.

a report of a bomb on a flight from spain to new york's j-f-k airport turned out to be a hoax. police are investigating who made the call on one of the busiest travel days of the year. about 200 passengers and nine crewmembers were evacuated from the american airlines jet on the tarmac away from the terminal. police and bomb-sniffing dogs found nothing suspicious in the plane or the passengers' luggage. pro-democracy protests have been intensifying in hong kong. when protesters surrounded hong kong's government headquarters this morning, police sprung into action... tearing down barricades the marchers had erected. thousands of tents have created a makeshift "democracy village." the protesters are demanding that *china let the people of hong kong choose their next year in open elections in 20-17. so far, china has refused. here's one way to keep the costs of a wedding down... warms
