one sentence away. as we know, it is pumped day, blue skies are coming our way. mostly sunny skies. could the feeling 27 but temperatures will climb above freezing for the second day in a row. we haven't seen much of that. 26 in kankakee, 26 in aurora. wind of the southwest means a warming breeze will jump our temperatures into the 30's. current wind chill of 11, 16 in kankakee, 21 at the lakefront. satellites composite does not show rain or snow. but typical high is 39 and we are cooler than that. we do make freezing by noon. today's had 35. mostly sunny skies. a few flurries possible dollars day high of 34. friday we have some spotty showers. high temperature of 40 degrees. we will take that rain if it's in the 40's.

4400 block of strong avenue where he was pronounced dead. authorities told the daily herald it was an english style attack just before 5:30 p.m. as the men stood outside the home. one man was shot and killed in the driveway, the other was found dead in a different driveway around the corner. a third victim was shot in the backside and was able to run into a nearby residence. he was airlifted to the hospital. condition not known. police say they are interviewing witnesses and there is no information yet about a suspect or suspects. it is clearly a double homicide that has police cordoning off a fairly large crime scene here on strong avenue. autopsies are scheduled for later today. back to you. >> shooting...and then

turned into a police chase. riverdale police responded to call yesterday afternoon that a man with a gun put two children into an s-u-v and drove off. police chased the s-u-v for about four miles, before it stopped in chicago's west pullman neighborhood. the driver was coaxed out and arrested. two people inside the home to stop people in the vehicle. the children were not harmed. the driver is in our custody. information appears this was an isolated incident and not a random act of violence. >> to people inside the home in riverdale were shot. one of them was kevin denson, who died at the hospital. the other is a woman with non-life threatening injuries. police would not say if the driver they arrested was the shooter. no charges have been filed. a house exploded into flames, just as gas company and streets-and-san crews were looking for the source of a natural gas leak in morgan park. it happened yesterday morning in the 21-hundred

block of 107-th place. investigators believe a gas line ruptured during a construction project... and the gas built up until it ignited. >> it sounded like a build up an explosion. >> just let park to the car i heard the noise. but i saw no big equipment and a new it wasn't right. >>fortunately, the family that lived in the house wasn't home... but a *pet may have been trapped in the burning house. an elderly woman was killed in a fire at her home on chicago's northwest side. the fire broke out on the first floor of a two-flat at melrose and laramie yesterday afternoon. 72-year-old shirley ryan was found in the living room. firefighters say they did not hear any smoke alarms going off when they arrived. no one else was hurt. the cause of the fire is under investigation. an eleven year old boy lost his leg when he was run over by a metra train. it happened near the burr oak station in blue island yesterday morning. alexander zepeda was running for a school bus, but a stopped metra train was in his way.

zepeda tried to slide underneath the train to get to the other side. but then the train started moving, it went over the boy's leg. he's now recovering in the hospital after doctor amputated it. >> here's try to catch a bus so it wouldn't be late for school. >> i see so many kids running and i think they can make it. it's so sad to hear. >>zepeda is a fourth grader at burr oak school. parents in the area are now asking to have someone near the tracks to make sure children get around them safely. a woman who claimed to have been stabbed while jogging on a trail in palatine made the whole thing up. the woman told police she was attacked and stabbed while jogging in deer grove forest preserve on saturday afternoon. she has a stab wound and is hospitalized. police say it's not clear how she got that wound. they're considering whether they'll take any actions against her. delivery services are very busy for the holidays, but so are package thefts. so chicago police and package delivery companies are cracking down... to help keep your packages

chicago employers will have to build in new costs of doing business in the coming years. the chicago city council has voted to hike the city's minimum wage. it's currently 8-25 an hour... but it'll jump to 10 dollars next july. additional increases will take it up to 13 dollars an hour by the year 20-19. labor groups say it'll lift families out of poverty. business leaders say, with no mandated hikes in additional *revenue, businesses will have no choice but to cut jobs. mayor emanuel pushed for the higher wage. >> my hope is that the state

raise their minimum wage and it will see this as a jolt to action. illinois lawmakers are expected to vote next month on a bill to raise wage to *9 dollars an hour next year, and eventually *11 dollars. but the bill under consideration would strip chicago of its home-rule powers... so yesterday's city-wide wage hike couldn't go forward. he secretary of homeland security is defending the president's executive actions on immigration reform. secretary jeh johnson appeared before the house homeland security committee. questioned whether the president overstepped the constitution with his new immigration policy. the policy will help millions of people avoid deportation if they pass a background check and pay taxes. secretary johnson says the president had to act because congress would not pass a bill. >> they are present. they're lawfully present. >> howard lawfully here when the intention of congress was very clear? they can be deported. it doesn't mean it will be. >> congress has not given me

the resources to deport 11 million people. >>secretary johnson says the president's actions had nothing to do with republicans taking over the next congress. he says this has been in the planning stage since last spring. auto parts supplier takata let a deadline pass without expanding its recall of airbags. millions of takata airbags have been recalled after people were hit with metal shrapnel when the bags exploded. four people have been killed. takata says the bags are more likely to malfunction in high humidity areas. the national highway traffic safety administration gave them until midnight to issue a nationwide recall. but that didn't happen. >> cannot be able to meet that requirement. they have to have areas which area they should recall first the air bags. >>takata has said that the automakers should be the ones to issue a nationwide recall. a takata executive appears

before a house committee today. you've heard the expression "losing your mind"? well, the university of texas at austin has lost about *100 brains.* that's right... the university had a collection stored away. now... about half are missing. the austin state hospital had transferred the brains to the university about 28 years ago. about 100 were stored in a lab... but the rest were moved to the basement. the curators say they don't know whether the brains were taken as a prank. the university is investigating. a teenager gets locked out of his house in arizona. what he does next, is far from a good idea. the boy decided to go down the chimney. he tethered himself with an extension cord that he tied to a vent. needless to say, he got stuck about halfway down. luckily, he had his cell phone on him and was able to call 9-1-1. no word on why he didn't use that phone to call someone to unlock the door, in the first place. it took firefighters more than an hour to get him

dingle... a chicago couple facing charges in a multi- million dollar state grant scam. the government alleges as much as $3-point-7 million dollars of health care grant money... helped the dingles pay for luxury cars and vacation getaways. powerful storms and heavy rains triggered massive flooding and mudslides in southern california. you can see it here in this video from camarillo... north of los angeles. the drenching rains began falling early yesterday morning... prompting mandatory evacuations. about a dozen vehicles were stranded in mud up to 3 feet high. a stretch of the pacific coast highway in ventura county was closed for a third straight day. storms downed power lines and sent mud and debris sprawling across the road. the t-s-a says it realizes what went wrong to make lines so long at midway airport on sunday. travelers had to wait in security lines that stretched through the parking garage and to the airport 'l' stop. the t-s-a says problems
