a man named chris mercer walked on to the campus with four weapons including a rifle and opened fire in at least two classrooms. by the time police and more than 100 police officers arrived, 10 dead and seven injured. several critically. there was a shootout between police and chris and at the end, the shooter was killed as well. we have sound from survivor that you can listen to now. >> right now, i think i'm in shock. earlier it was not like this at all. it was worse. i didn't -- there's so many emotions going on right now that i don't -- i don't know. my heart hurts for the people that have passed. i don't know. it's a weird feeling. there's so many feelings go going on and around. it's indescribable. right now, i feel okay but i felt that way earlier before i

got here. >> reporter: at a vigil last night which hundreds of people from the community and beyond attended, i spoke to young woman who lost her brother, josh, 23 years old and studying to be a vet reinarian. and another person whose brother survived. and he asked some of the victims if they were christian and if they answered yes, he shot them in the head and if they didn't answer, he shot them in the leg. there are reports he left messages on online chat rooms warning about the shooting. the community college is the only college of a city of about 22,000 people. and there are students in their 50s and 60s. betty. >> so tragic. thank you, jacob.

north carolina's outer banks. let's start in kitty hawk where dangerous flooding is expected before joaquin hits. >> reporter: good morning. they've been having and dealing with flooding issues throughout the last couple of days in the carolinas. joaquin only going to intensify that. and they've already evacuated some of the out lying islands. they're afraid with the rising waters from a storm that's been inland already and dropping that rain, combine would the d with the water from joaquin, it could cause problem tz going back and forth, so they have evacuated those out lying islands. there is concern that this area already soaked over the last several days can't handle more water and we're talking about areas like this one. kitty hawk, another five inches or more.
