4:43 pm
look at natick today and it's a bitter cold day out there today. definitely not used to what we're saying. there is naic there, you can see rain soaked streets, cars moving pretty slowly of not only friday but i'm sure slippery roads people slowing down a little bit to avoid any fender benders out there . >> anchor: chris was talking about a pressure system that's out there. chris, that's kind of making the weather we have but you are also looking at hurricane joaquin obviously . >> reporter: it's amaying to see the difference between high pressure and low pressure that drives a wind. we have a 100 millibar difference interest this hurricane down across the bahamas to big old high area of pressure across quebec right now now. here is hurricane joaquin right now in the stall bahamas moving very close to san salvador island then going to the north and then to the northeast and that is key to the track and keeping it away from the united states. still a category four, winds sustained at 130 miles per hour, pressure has come up a little bit so we do expect this to weaken a little bit as we go through the next couple of days but look at how far east of the
4:44 pm
carolina coastline. this is by monday morning, this is the track from national hurricane center. this trend we saw all today yesterday shifted farther and farther off tough east and here it is now. think it's established. i don't think there will be much wiggle room in this track now which is good news because we have higher confidence this will stay hundred miles away from the united states, however, there are still problems across the east bound, especially down through the carolinas as we go through the next few days. we have our own issues to deal with here in terms of the cold rain over spreading the area. we've now managed to watch you get close to the mass new hampshire border. it was mainly dry for a while north of the mass pike and then the rain over took that area. basically over the last few hours and plenty of moisture still streaming back through the mid la plantic getting pumped over a stationery front to the south of us. that front dividing line from that warm, humid air we had a few days ago in the much cooler air that we have right now. 50. that's it in the city of boston. 45 degrees in worcester and then you add in the wind, wind has been very active along the
4:45 pm
coastline. gusting over 30 miles per hour out of the north to northeast. 36 mile-per-hour gusts last hour and hyannis, 33 in plymouth. winds will be strongest far southeastern mass overnight tonight and too tomorrow morning where we have a wind advisory in place gusts 30 to 45 miles per hour and of course the last couple days with strong onshore winds and left over astronomical high tides we have had pockets of minor coastal flooding a long the coastline, places like scituate, looks like tomorrow once again during the afternoon we may deal with some pockets of minor coastal flooding thanks to the strong onshore winds. so here is the setup as adam was mentions another area of high pressure to the north of us, that's causing concern. usually high pressure brings us nice weather and it does when you are right underneath it. however, it's the pressure difference that really drives the wind and because we have not only a hurricane down across the bahamas but another area of low pressure across the southeast. there is a tremendous pressure difference so a tremendous at of wind that's getting funneled down the east coast. this area of low pressure will
4:46 pm
create flooding rains down through north carolina, south carolina over the next count every days and there is a little bit of tropical moisture that's getting pulled into this from joaquin but no direct impact from joaquin coming in here over the next couple of days. that is somewhat of good news but still you are going to hear a lot about this rain situation down through the carolinas over the weekend. for us, still an active on shore wind gusts 35 to 45 miles per hour along the coastline, we'll deal with that an moore o coastal flooding. i want to show you rain totals. a good six to 12 inches of rain. wouldn't be surprised to see a few towns down in south carolina closer to 15 inches of rain after this is all said and done. for our weather, rain on and off through the overnight hours tonight of the still some showers around tomorrow. thinking tomorrow morning most of the showers will have that. then it tapers off to periodic drizzle for the afternoon and overall. there is still maybe a patch or two of drizzle but i think we afternoon. especially as you we go through sunday afternoon into sunday evening with drying out.
4:47 pm
46 to 52 overnight tonight. cool and raw out there, only 47 in the worcester hills tomorrow. 52 in boston, 54 south of the city. again, most of the rain tomorrow will be in the morning hours. how about making strides in the city of boston. if you join us, go with mainly dry weather. there may be a patch of drizzle but not a bad morning walk weather wise in terms of temperatures. it's cool, you have to dress in a few layers out there in the early morning the next couple of morning but we should avoid much rain there on sunday going from a dry day. 7 on 7 forecast, nicer weather as we get into next week. 60's return so does the sunshine sunshine. >> anchor: close to the 5:00 hour, it's friday so we can expect pace on the roads. here is joe staple ton. what do we have here? high there, right around route 1 northbound here on the saugus area patience at ther if you will, tough going getting by a right travel lane crash by the lynn fellows parkway rolling right back into revere. heading for downtown boston, we
4:48 pm
moving as well. getting to the spot the mass pike eastbound coming up to route 93 it looks like close to a half hour ride here from before the allston tolls right up toward those ramps we were talking about. over toward the river on the right that is soldier's field road eastbound dealing with delays as well down past bu. heading over to the expressway southbound about a 40 minute ride down into braintree and northbound getting by morrissey boulevard in savin hill a very slow ride here it continues heavy right up toward the downtown area. i'm joe staple ton, 7 news. leading today's health comfort a new survey finds using your cell phone could be putting a damper on your love life. >> anchor: researchers surveyed nearly 500 adults with the study 46% of the participants said
