. >> anchor: tonight lawmaker calling for change saying something must be done with our . >> anchor: plus, texting and in trouble. a driver chatting away while speed chase. the whole thing caught on camera camera. >> anchor: a bun in the oven. literally! a wife's surprise announcement brings her husband to tears. >> anchor: fir at 5:30 we're learning new details about the campus massacre in oregon. a community is serving for answers tonight one day after a gunman opened fire on that quiet college campus. nine people were killed, nine others seriously injured . >> anchor: tonight we're learning more about the 26 26-year-old shooter. 7's brandon gunnoe live with the very latest on this. >> anchor: the douglas county sheriff is holding a press conference now releasing statements from victim's family members. federal investigators say though they have found 13 weapons connected to this gunman, authorities have identified him right there as 26-year-old chris harper mercer.

six of the weapons were found at the college where he opened fire along with body armor and ammunition. investigators discovered 7 more weapons when they searched through his apartment. according to authorities all the weapons had been legally purchased either by the shooter himself or by family members. the officials are still not providing though a motive for this shooting. nine people were killed and another nine others seriously injured in the attack. mercer was killed after a shoot shootout with police. although it's unclear whether he was killed by officers or took his own life it, was only the fourth day of class at the small community college which is loaded about three hours south of portland. students say they heard gun shots and knew that they needed to get out fast. this latest school massacre once again renewing the call for gun control in this country. >> anchor: this is a political choice we make to allow this to happen every few months in america.

both start with t thought it would be cute to make little tnt bottles filled with bath salts for guests. as you can imagine tsa did not think it was cute. the newlyweds were not charged but the agency posted these pictures on instagram to remind travelers think about what you pack. >> reporter: we have cold rain out there right now. a lot of dry air in the atmosphere so this radar a little bit overdone but we do have some light rain hitting the ground not of the city of boston and even south of the city of boston. this is where we've had more of the soaking rains earlier in the day dunn through buzzard area bay, the cape and islands stretching back into southern rhode island and if youful the trend here a lot of moisture continues to stream on in so i real see much changing this evening and overnight tonight. we'll have periodic light rain at times moderate to heavy down across the south coast of new england. the theme here though is a cool, raw pattern for a couple of days days.

45 degrees in worcester then you factor in the wind and it does feel awfully chilly out there especially along the coastline. wind gusts to 26 in boston, but look at the wind gusts across the cape and islands in the 30's and 40's. 43 mile-per-hour gusts down in the vineyard. we had a 47 mile-per-hour gust over nantucket. scattered rain showers continuing overnight tonight. one trend we'll note tomorrow is that the scattered showers we have in the morning tend to fade away a little bit in the afternoon we still have patches of drizzle out there. it won't be awide spread but still expect a damp and cool day and breezy day at that on saturday. sunday a little bit better, main mainly dry, could have patch or two of drizzle but overall even a couple breaks of sun is possible so i will say rain chance is lower on sunday. really the highest threat of some showers and really a soaking ground will be out there tomorrow morning. puddles out on the roadway then as we get into monday and tuesday looking manny dry although on monday still a link linkry moisture patch of drizzle or shower across southeastern mass.

central bahamas moving north very close here to san salvador island. that continues to lift north and they expect a track to the northeast and north to the east but it's well away from the u.s. coastline. winds right now 125 miles per hour. that's a category three hurricane. this pass is far off the east bound what we do expect to see is another storm that will provide flooding rains down through the carolina. an upper level low caught to the back of the deep south and this will pull in a lot of tropical air and create those flooding rain down through north carolina and south carolina. for us, that area of high pressure to the north, that has created the strong gusty northeasterly winds that at tips along the coastline close to 35 to 45 miles per hour. that it's giving us minor coval flooding during high tide. we'll see that again tomorrow afternoon with a pocket of minor coastal flooding so there is a coval flood advisory once again in place. also wind advisory in place down through the cape and islands down through buzzard area bay for those gusts 35 to 45 miles

>> anchor: still a strong and significant storm but it's los losing steam and it appears to be taking a turn. let's get to chris lambert who is track storm today . >> reporter: it's moving not after sitting over the bahamas for about 24 hours, close to san salvador island right now that continues to move north at 7 miles per hour. not much of a difference. category four to category three here. it dropped wind speeds from 1:30 to 1:25 still a very more mid midable hurricane near the warm right now. this will continue its journey to the north and then to the northeast at easterly component important to its track because it will keep it hundred miles away from the united states coastline. hundred miles away from the carolina coastline even as we get into sunday night into monday and then even longer term monday night into tuesday well off our coastline here so we don't expect any rain or strong winds from that hurricane. however, we're dealing with a separate system. there is another area of low pressure across the southeast and a massive area of high pressure to the north of us. that pressure difference is creating a lot of wind out of the northeast. we're also waving moisture ride
