>> 7 news at 6:00 starts now. >> now at 6:00. flames and smoke billowing out of a home in waltham. crews on scene battling that spreading fire. >> firefighters spending hours at the home trying to the flames under control. we are live in waltham with the latest. >> fire crews are still on scene here. this is the house where that fire happened. but it was over here, in this parking lot where firefighters were training at the time when they spotted the smoke. sunday afternoon flames continued to flick out of the roof of this home on russell street in waltham. >> it feels like a nightmare.

>> firefighters worked to put the last of the fire out. >> we got here. there was smoke coming out of the top floor. windows. all the. >> difficult and dangerous situation for those firefighters. and the people that live inside. >> so much fire up there we could not get close to it. we had to hit it from outside. and inside walls block from you getting to the scene. >> i smelled smoke. it did not seem bad at first until it was out of control. they opened the top of the building. and it was just like -- fire started like it was flames everywhere and started to spray. >> orlando was able to escape and believes he lost everything in the heavy damage. >> i feel lucky that we are safe. but it just -- it sucks not -- to see that. >> it all may have been worse if it was not for the quick thinking of waltham firefighters training across the street at a station. >> they were doing hose testing in the parking lot and saw it. >> called it in leading to a

fast response. for orlando it is a bad situation but keeping an open behind and everything is gone. hope for the best, i guess. >> they are working to find out how it happened and how much damaged it caused. john joe amorosino. 7 news. >> disturbing discovery at pelham new hampshire apartment complex. when police responding to a reported shooting find an arsenal of weapons. police say it all started when man fired several shots saying he thought someone was breaking into the apartment. kelly o'hara is live with the latest. >> unbelievable. scary situation. crisis averted neighbors say. called 911 last night telling police a man, their neighbor, claimed to have shot four people but that was not the case. >> and he was like yelling. my dad walked over there. some big guy, he was naked and said he shot four people.

>> i think he was upset with me or something. he was just upset because i wouldn't respond to his calls. >> i think, maybe he snapped or something. just, you know, hopefully they can get him help he needs. >> now, police arrived and discovered this small arsenal of weapons on the 67-year-old. he was a recluse that may have [he did not hurt anyone. the walls. and shell casing on the ground. police say they see seven guns including pistols, rifles and shotgun along with 10,000 rounds of ammunition. and 20 different gun magazines. that man arrested and taken into custody and brought to mass general nop a medical evaluation. that's it for now. in pelham new hampshire. kelly o'hare. >> u.s. coast guard made a discovery in search for a

missing ship in florida. 225 square mile debris field as they continue to search for the missing cargo ship el pharaoh on saturday they found a ship life ring in the water. >> unfortunately, the ship became disabled because of a mechanical problem. the path of the storm. >> the coast guard lost contact with group friday night after hit by 30-foot waves caused by joaquin. 33 people on board. >> we are following breaking news out of south carolina. torrential rain casing historic flooding in that area. local officials say that so far three people died from weather related causes. people have been frantically trying to escape to get to safety. the water though is so high that cars are almost completely submerged with rescue crews pling families and children from flood waters. crews are helping stranded

>> we are starting on top of more news. upton fire crews battle fierce flames in an empty building this morning. building in engulfed had firefighters got there. blaze leaves behind ashes. 7's kris anderson has more from upton. >> bright orange flames lighting up the night sky in upton. firefighters battling a huge fire that tore through the abandon home on main street around 3:30 this morning. >> we had heavy fire throughout most of the building. and including the bay. >> flames stretch p the bay. all the way up through the roof. engulfing the entire building. and you can see in these pictures. the thick white smoke and how intense the flames were. >> we did enter the building. no reports of anyone in the building when he arrived. so we fought it from outside. >> dozens of firefighters from upton and five surrounding towns battled the blaze for more than an hour and a half before the flames were finally out. by that time, the former

multi-family home was destroyed. go investigators from the state police as well as upton police and fire spent the afternoon exam i can some of the debris and while the cause of the fire is undetermined, they stay appears to be suspicious. >> we have more than one point of origins at least we think we have more than one point. and which leads to us believe that there may be a possibility the fire was set here. so we are still looking into that. >> chief cadle said that they are familiar with this abandon home after several incidents of vandalism and trespassing offer the last year and a half. which is why they are searching through the ruble now just to inside. >> crews continue clearing away some of the debris to allow investigators a chance to get inside. this fire. at this point, they are calling it suspicious. that is the lay nest upton. kris anderson, 7 news. >> a car catches on fire on i-90 west this afternoon. boston firefighters responding.

>> making strides here in massachusetts. tens of thousands of walkers getting out for a good cause. it is the annual event to raise millions of dollars to strike out breast cancer. >> everyone there has a story. family. others fighting their own battles. >> making strides to help finish the fight against breast cancer. 40,000 walkers coming through raising $2.5 million. all going to fund breast cancer research right here in massachusetts. >> i am here today because this is a wonderful event and i love the fact that we are bring i awareness to such a devastating disease. >> breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in won. but the walk is realm about fighting and surviving. and joann is walking to fight the diseases and i know spire others to never give up. >> you have to keep up the fight. keep the faith.

we had breaks of sun. high temperature in boston 56 degrees. managed to climb to 60 in new bedford. 53 in worcester. temperatures are close to where they were earlier, lower 50s mostly. in the city of boston. mid of 50s across southeast mass. winds gusty throughout the day. not as strong along the coastline as earlier this morning. still gusting over 20 miles an hour out of the northeast. keep breezy conditions there through the day tomorrow as well. especially along the coastline. we have had some clouds. not tremendous amounts of clouds mid to high levels because it is dry. but low level clouds have worked back in. and occasionally you get breaks in that overcast. but that will be the case overnight. even tomorrow. most clouds close to the coastline with onshore wind and down through southeast mass, further north and west of boston you go better chance of having more in the way of sunshine. finally once the winds turn back north and northwest. we will get more sunshine for all of us on tuesday. and wednesday.

the tropical connection of moisture that is been hosing in through south carolina here over the last couple of days. prolific rain totals. where you see this white shaded area. good 12 to 18 inches of rain in the last 72 hours from columbia south carolina down to charleston. in fact, even locally higher amounts, mt. pleasant. south carolina. reporting 24 inches of rain. likely seeing several more inches before it is all said and done. some of the tropical moisture has been connected and pulled off. joaquin right now continues the movement northeast. and you see that dot right there? that's bermuda. passing the center of circulation about 50 to 100 miles west of it. this system, hurricane moves northeast. and no threat to the united states coastline. other than throwing back high surf, rip currents, and over the next few days. that will continue to be the case. across any east facing shore lines here. once you get your way basically north of cape anne through
