fuelling the revolt among some republicans in congress. conservative opponent said anybody's misdeeds should withdraw from the race. but mccarthy denied that. a potential government shut down looming if a budget deal isn't struck. democrats could barely stifle their glee from the white house to capital hill. >> it is a mes. i don't think it's a mes, it is a mess. and the city counsel of charleston has namsh unanimously approved a settlement for the family of walter scott. scott's family says the money will go to his children and that a portion will be donated to help with disaster relief efforts for flooding.

sacramento and quickly became a brawl. this apparently shows stone fighting with more than one person. two groups of people pushing, shoving and throwing punches before eventually skatering as a police cruiser arrived. they say stone was stabbed multiple times in the upper body. >> this incident is a very unfortunate alterication between two groups of folks enjoying themselves in the night life of sacramento. >> reporter: what a very different scene from when he returned an american hero who may have stopped a terror attack. now recovering from knife wound here in his home town. a teen age survivor of last week's oregon community college

armed. staffers. the report has not been confirmed by nbc news. there's still a major threat in south carolina days after the historic rain there ended. flood water making its way to the oceans will slam through beach communities and it is a lot. imagine this, in south carolina alone, about 1.2 million gallons fell per person. could be more evacuations still ahead. 14 dams have been breached and this morning, north carolina is sending 500 soldiers and airman to its sister state to help respond to the record flooding. in georgia, a horrific gas station explosion caught on video. a motorcyclist was gassing up when all of a sudden his bike caught fire.

police are crediting bystanders with saving a man's life. they say the rider was severely burned. they believe he left his motorcycle running and that is what caused the fire. nbc meteorologist bill karins is here for your end of the week forecast. we made it to friday. we have had about 3 to seven inches of rain overnight at eagle pass. areas from san antonio westward, the worst of it. we have a cold front heading to the east from buffalo to syracuse and eventually new hampshire, vermont, a steady cool rain today. we may see isolated strong storm or two this afternoon. here is at noon today. so, a few strong storms popping up in pennsylvania. steady rains continue through

welcome back. a dangerous new development in syria, several missiles fired by russia have missed their target. >> reporter: senior defense officials tell nbc news that four of the missiles that russia fired on syria fell short and land in iran. what really has u.s. military officials worried is that washington wasn't informed before the launch even though they travelled through airspace where american aircraft are operating. already at least two u.s. planes had to be diverted to avoid confrontations with russia's aircraft. and they're fuming at the choice
