and that's why families here were without power for just a little bit. what we are understand something that all of a sudden families heard and -- this constant roar. when they came outside they saw a huge fireball and remember actually feeling something like a shift on the ground underneath them and when they came out, this is what they saw. now, what we've learned from fire officials is that the gas company was out here on south street in medfield and working on the gas main line. and for some reason accidentally hit that line and that's what caused the explosion, caused that fireball to erupt, and the firefighters were called and immediately went to about a dozen homes in the area, making sure that everyone got out just because that main does feed many of the homes in the area, they wanted to make sure that everyone stayed safe. well, we're learning from families and witnesses here, that they could actually smell

time and as they were told to leave the area, we know that there was the high school field where activities were canceled just because they were so close to the area. we learned from fire officials that the scene to clean up and fix the gas main will go throughout the evening. but for right now we do know that no one was hurt. susan tran, 7news. >> a southbridge teacher accused of sending obscene photos of himself to a student. >> and the school department is taking immediate action. 7's kelli o'hara live in southbridge with the breaking details. >> good evening, that teacher in big trouble with the law. police tell us, for allegedly selling different pics to a student not once, but twice. now, investigators say they arrested just today joseph saniga of webster. they say that yes, just yesterday, a school resource officer heard students talking in the hall about these photos. that school resource officer asked to see them, and what

happened next is that he immediately called detectives and that's when they began their investigation and they arrested the 21-year-old ell teacher. now, the webster man had worked here since last spring and the police chief says that this started all over facebook. take a listen. >> 21-year-old teacher had sent inappropriate pictures to one of his students on a facebook account through the passenger app. to the best of our knowledge, the student had never communicated back to the teacher while the teacher's put in a position of trust, and it's sickening to even hear agencies like this. it's good that nobody was hurt. >> now, the school department did release a statement this afternoon, it reads in part, the school department is extremely alarmed by these charges and has taken immediate steps to ensure today. employee with the district, we have requested a no trespass order to the police department.

limping and covered with bruises. kimberly bookman with more on the investigation. >> yeah, that young mom was here in court this morning. as for her 5-year-old son, he went to school and his teachers recognized that he was hurt and immediately rushed him to a local hospital. now according to court paperwork, quote, there was significant trauma to his entire body including his head, face, arms, legs, buttocks and lower back. witnesses told police, quote, he was in such severe pain due to these injuries he could not walk and had to be carried up and down the stairs. >> the 22-year-old mom allegedly told police she noticed the bruising but could not tell when and how her son got them. paperwork says she lives in this worcester apartment home on the third floor with a roommate and police say mom blamed that male roommate for the injuries but allowed the roommate to continue to take care of the boy. now at last check, that child was in stable condition at a local hospital and he has been taken out of his mother's custody and now in the care of the department of children and

he is. 58 seems to be a popular number in boston. down through nantucket, hyannis and up on the northshore in beverly. 67 in nashua. it was the high today. tonight falling back into the 40 and even some upper 30s. a chill in the air, yeah, as we might expect for october, 46 brockton, but 38 in taunton. 39 in billerica and about 48 or 49 in boston. so there's some cool air coming in, but tomorrow we offset it a little bit. we'll have some sunshine, some clouds, and then we get into thursday afternoon, these clouds start to thicken up a little bit. there's a weather system coming in on friday, it looks like we might get a shower or two on thursday night before that weather system sends a cold front through. and then it gets cool right behind that front. but we won't feel that until we get to saturday and sunday.

so near normal tomorrow. how about that. milton 62, marblehead 62. boston, 62, 63 in framingham and quincy and brockton, as well. there there will be a breeze out of the southwest tomorrow, and our temperatures actually might climb to near normal on friday before that big slide. much advertised, i will add. by all tv stations and all the meter ologies, for the weekend. the head of the charles is looking a little cool and windy, as well, as quickly as this settles in this weekend, it pulls away by early next week. and we're back into the 60s just like that. this time of year, you can't really establish a cold air mass and keep it around unless you have constant reinforcements, and we only have one blob of cool air, and we'll deal with it for two days coming this weekend 34 to 49 tonight. cooling off, clear skies tomorrow, 55 to 60. mostly sunny. a few afternoon clouds. sunday in the upper 40s. that's it. that number hasn't budged either in days and i'm pretty confident that we're gonna be that chilly. couple of frosts coming up sunday morning and monday
