threatening injies. police say this altercation happened inside the t. stop. >> everything happened inside the station. once an individual realized he was stabbed, he fled out the end, center street end of the stays. that is where he fell down on the ground. >> reporter: because it happened inside the t. stop there were a number of witnesses to this altercation. police pulled those poem aside to get a better description of the suspect to find out who he is. there is video cameras inside the t. station. it appears the suspect wasn't caught on video but police haven't made any arrest so it won't surprise me if they closed in on a suspect because they knew each other by the end of tonight. tim caputo, 7 news. >> also breaking police say a student brought a loaded gun to a boston high school. here is ryan schulteis with breaking details. >> reporter: police say the incident happened at tech boston academy around 10:30 this morning.

the student allegedly arrived late and tried to get around the metal detentors s.ers? >> found the gun in the student's backback. he is now facing several charges. >> more breaking news, good news about red sox manager john farrell amend his fight with cancer, let's go to elizabeth norieka for that. >> reporter: john farrell's cancer is in remakes and he is preparing to return to the team. he was diagnosed with stage 1 non-hodgkins lymphoma. he sat out the rest of the season getting treatment. the sox announced the good news this afternoon. farrell said in a statement: >> reporter: in the news news. >> 7 news turning to more

big dig project. there are new problems with what is holding up lights that weigh more than 100 pounds. officials telling us there are no safety concerns but crews are taking a close look at more than 100,000 parts of this support system. byron barnett is live with the story. >> reporter: this damaged hard ware was discovered in the big dig tunnel system during a routine inspection in september. now officials say they're trying to figure out how wide spread it is and get it repaired. >> hairline fracture at the top of that. >> reporter: this is some of the damaged hardware system. look closely. you can see the nuts are actually cracked. it's part of the hard ware that holds up the heavy overhead lights. the tis dovery revises frightening members of when a light crashed down on to the roadway in 2011 and when a ceiling panel collapsed

but state highway officials insist this poses no such dangers to the driving public. >> at no time was anything in jeopardy of falling. there is a redundant system in the light fixtures. the tunnels are life. lighting structures are safe. to are perfectly honest with you if we felt for a second that anything would president clinton dislodged and fall to the roadway we would have closed the tum. >> reporter: officials found more than 900 damaged nuts in the callahan tunnel, the i. 90 and the i-93 tunnel system. that is about 4% of what they inspected so far. inspectors say these are the ominous from what the tunnel was installed 20 years ago and may have been installed too tight. >> the work person trying to make it as tight as possible which could have fractured the nut. >> reporter: officials say the big dig is the most complex tunnel system in the world. and that an ongoing maintainance program is necessary to keep it functioning. >> it's what it is. you know, i hate to sound

the tunnel system that we inherited. it's our job to keep it open, accessible and safe. >> reporter: highway officials plan to have all of the damaged hardware replaced within about six months. they say the only join convenience to drivers will be single lane closures overnight. not during the day time. that is the story live in boston, i'm byron barnett, 7 news. >> there is more news today. a dangerous drive in mansfield after police say a man pointed a gun at another driver and when police fought are caught up with the guy, they made a disturbing discovery in his car, steve cooper has details tonight. >> reporter: troopers respond to an awful lot of calls for cases of road rage on the highways around here, but this was very different when they found a loaded gun. >> commonwealth versus just insmith.

and the 2 1-year-old yam aeroappear in court. >> road rage incident where an individual states that a male, they cut each other off. one of them pointed a gun at him. >> reporter: it happened between sharon and mansfield before a driver jammables to -- scrambles to call 911 from his cell phone. troopers were able to locate the volkswagen and taking the duo into custody. that is when prosecutors say the 32 caliber silver colt was discovered in the trunk along with a box of ammunition and a halloween mask. >> he is denying all the charges. that he says it's factually untrue. >> reporter: court documents indicate smith told troopers he shouldn't have pulled out a gun. his mother not saying much what asked about the allegations. >> i guess it was a cat and mouse game, bye. >> reporter: was it his gun.

>> that is what today was all about as people across the state came together for a special cause. >> today people are donating money for coleen -- [inaudible] >> reporter: a former danvers high school student overwhelmed by an act of kindness paying tribute to coleen ritter. >> it's great feeling. >> reporter: people in danvers paying it forward to honor the teacher killed two years ago today. >> she effected people in a way she was amazing, she didn't realize she was aaffecting them so she would be overwhelmed by it. >> reporter: her close friend came up with kindness for coleen so people could carry on ritzer's generous spirit. >> i wanted to make this day a little better. us. >> reporter: it gained momentum in danvers and towns nearby. kerry burnett surprised her daughter's pre-school teachers with baked goods. >> thought that it would be

other than a wind shift and a touch colder by morning. tomorrow morning's temperatures in the mid and upper 040s, the numbers don't go very far even with full sunshine. a cool north wind will be blowing, 54 in boston, 53 marblehead. about 54 brockton and those numbers fall through the night on friday waking up to saturday morning, a very cold start. temperatures in the 20s, around 30 or 32 in the city. yes, we only get to 56 for the reason. the air mass about the same but it's what we do overnight focus that cold. then we have to dig ourselves out of it on saturday. pats forecast is a milder one. mildner general for everyone. 52-61. 10:00 we might have a few showers for tailgaters, it goes up until noon but we'll trend to dryer weather to 11:00, 12:00 and 1:00 the sun will break out. go for the low 60s, a decent afternoon in fact. about 37-44.

patriots jets rivalry through the records out the window. despite owning the a.f.c.east, the patriots always seem to find the sledding tough against their bitter rival. the patriots have won seven of their last meetings including a hard fought sweep last year over a jets team that finished the season with only four wins. the pats winning the games by a combined three points. jets have been successful at doing something few teams have been able to sub certification getting under tom brady's skin. alex has more from foxboro on the sunday showdown against the top ranked defense. after causing tom brady's first interception of the season -- >> he is going to walds in. >> reporter: brady has been hard on edelman this week.
