as as what that virus could be, they are still looking into it. that is the latest from lowell. >> christa: class back in session in lexington after a yesterday. big bang. then they felt a jolt coming from the basement. engineers say the shake-up was likely caused by bolt-banging syndrome which usually happens in newer buildings during a change of seasons. the building is less than two years old. >> anchor: is dcf employee whose work was cited in an independent report this week is being examined by the agency. the report found the worker copy and pasted years-old reports back in 2012 and 2013 while preparing a case on bella bond's mother who is accused of child neglect. the report then led dcf to close bella's case. the grl's body was found on deer island earlier this year. governor charlie baker says that employee could be disciplined. andover police say this is the man who broke into a home and

here are the wind gusts. through boston and worcester. through much of the south shore, north shore as well. some scattered clouds picked in with the sunshine. overall, though, more sunshine than cloud cover. as we go throughout the rest of the day. certainly, had plenty of sunshine so this morning. offer to the west of us, slightly cooler. back through buffalo. back through the great lakes. and even into southern canada. so tomorrow will be slightly cooler than where we are this afternoon. sunday, back close to the upper 50's to near 60 degrees. breezy day out there. mostly sunny skies. tomorrow, we will start out with some sunshine. more clouds late in the day. especially by the time you trick or treat. we are staying dry.

spotted swimming offshore. warmer waters are creating ideal conditions for close encounters. >> christa: the sightings could be a sign el nino is already hitting that region. >> reporter: lurking in shall lowe waters off the coast of southern california, marine biologists are tracking a juvenile six-foot great white shark. they are here off hundreddington beach and there are numbers scientists have not seen before. chris lowe has been tagging and tracking these predators for nearly a decade. the great whites may be an conditions are here and strengthening. >> the last two winters, none of the animals that we had tagged had migrated. we think that has to do with water temperature. >> reporter: even a slight rise in temperature means more food.

chris lambert is here with a check of the forecast. >> reporter: good afternoon. looking forward to those halloween parties as well. we have cooled since this time yesterday. by 15 degrees. however, this is more typical for october. late october standards. you know, yesterday with temperatures into the mid-0's. we were just shy of the record high. the record high yesterday was 79 degrees. here we go. 12-15 cooler across the area. you factor in the breeze. it does feel cooler outside this afternoon. that wind is steady out of the west, northwest. you go through the rest of the day. temperatures close to 60 degrees. we cool off this evening. bring back the high school football. game-time temperatures into the mid to upper 40's. around 7:00 p.m. then for tomorrow, we will reach the high close to about 54 degrees and fall back into the upper 40's by the the time the trick or treaters start to overall good comfortable weather for us compared to where we could be with some cold shots coming on in.

i will give you rosary if you bring it back. >> christa: a customer donated the statue to the store when she moved out of her home where she thought it would be safe. >> anchor: new details out of kentucky. a nearly week-long manhunt. a fugitive has been shot and killed in a shoot-out with police. flied ray cook was confronted by state troopers and a federal marshal: both sides exchanged gunfire. police say cook died at the scene. the 62-year-old was wanted for shooting and injuring a police officer in tennessee. then shooting at troopers in kentucky over the weekend. and new details on a whale watch boat that capsized off the coast of canada. the hull of the boat has been lifted out of the water for the first time since a large wave tipped it over. five bodies were recovered shortly after the boat capsized. the search for a sixth passenger is still under way. >> christa: lam rar odom is on the road to recovery. according to people magazine, forecast he remains in the hospital but is no longer in the intensive care unit. he is still receiving dialysis

some recent strokes. a military team still trying to recover a surveillance blimp from a wood area of pennsylvania. they are considering using helicopters to lift the wreckage. that process could take at least all day today. police fired about a hundred shots at the blimp during the leftover... draining the leftover helium. the blimp broke free from its mooring in maryland. drifted 150 miles before coming to a stop eventually in pennsylvania. it took down poles and knocked people along the way. the investigation now is ongoing. into why the blimp came loose in the first place. >> anchor: nearly two dozen runners will take part in the new york city marathon on youngest victim of the boston marathon bombing. $60,000. the money will go to the martin richard foundation which supports education, athletics and community

down the area. the south shore, north shore. cape and the islands. a little cooler in the worcester hills. breeze with us throughout the afternoon. temperatures close to 60 degrees. a ton of sunshine this morning. one batch of cloud cover starting to mix in with that sun from boston out through worcester. up into southern new hampshire. these clouds, they don't have a lot of staying power. we will see some scattered clouds in the mix. blue skies. winning out as we go through the afternoon. temperatures off to the west of us, slightly cooler. there is not a big change in temperatures from boston out through chicago. and there is no real cold air for this time of year. that is going to be the theme from the midwest into new south. as we go through much of next week. look at some of these rainfall totals.

south of austin, texas. close to a foot of rain. once again, dealing with a lot of flash flooding in portions of texas. this time close to the austin area. now, this rain shield is moving off to the north and to the northeast. the system breaks apart, in fact, some of it will try to slide off to the east. and another chunk of this moisture will get wound up into the midwest and then maybe into southern canada, but it loses a lot of strength. come on through, i don't expect much out of it. you know, i can't rule out a passing sprinkle or brief shower on sunday. much of the day is dry and many of us won't even see. that here is the pattern into next week. we do get cold and stormy through the west coast. that will allow the ridge to build through the midwest, ohio valley and into the northeast. milder temperatures, though, for all. there may be a day or two next week that the winds turn on-shore. we will stay dry. wednesday, thursday, then perhaps even into friday. 55-60 this afternoon.
