>> police are on the alert after a mosque was vandalized with spray-paint. good afternoon, everybody. now we are learning many isn't the first time this mosque has been targeted. >> jennifer eagan is live with the very latest here. >> yeah. members say something similar happened back in 2013. you can see that this time, vandals sprayed u.s.a. all over the side of the billing. it is troubling to people who worship here. >> the two alleged vandals

masks in the view of the surveillance camera. >> they were not afraid of being caught on the camera and stuff like. this there is concerns now that they are stepping up their action . >> v. >> police say they spent 20 minutes tagging the mosque with red spray-paint. eggs were also thrown at the building. >> this was a surprise to me. >> this happened just before 2:00 sunday morning. one of the center's members found the graffiti and damage. >> they heard the news. then they went out. . >> this mosque has been a target before. >> we saw this thing before. in 2013. they did the same thing. and during the month of ramadan, there were kids coming making racial comments. >> today police pa trolled the property. the islamic center's president says actions like these don't make them angry because this is a place of prayer. still, it leaves some here uneasy. >> that is my concerns. what will they do next.

>> police say is car you saw in the surveillance video is is a ford crown victoria. no arrests made in this case yet. >> a star athlete stabbed. an everett high school football player is in the hospital attacked when he was trying to help someone out. police say it all happened right after a big football game. >> that is where the 16-year-old made a major play. steve cooper is live with the latest. steve? >> christa, this is a real shocker for students and staff here. at everett high school. it is business as usual here at the high school today. everybody's thoughts and prayers are with the student athlete in the hospital at mass. general this afternoon. everybody here anxious for answers, but so far, at this hour, there have been no arrests. >> i think it is shocking that it happens in everett. >> students and staff and everyone still stunned by the stabbing of number nine on the high school football team. he was rushed to mass. general hospital after he was stabbed in the street saturday night.

attacked. he went to their aid. he ended up getting stabbed. he was copping home, waurking on broadway. somebody yelled for help. >> the stabbing came hours after the 16-year-old student athlete had the game of his life. everett's stunning st. john's prep 12-7 saturday to advance in the division one north play-offs. he was the hero of the game. with the winning touchdown. he spoke after the game. >> i just did what they asked me to do. the guys worked hard all week. that is really what showed today. >> he suffered a stab wound to his back and hand. now everyone is just hoping for the best. >> he is an excellent student. well-mannered. respectful. just terrible. >> you know, everybody in the community is upset. >> i'm proud of him for stepping in.

>> so he remains hospitalized this afternoon. listed in critical condition at last check. he is expected to pull through. as for the investigation, police will only say their investigation is ongoing. the district attorney's office and middlesex county also involved here. and investigators are asking anyone who may know anything about this stabbing to come forward. we are live from everett this afternoon, steve cooper, 7 news. >> also on 7: students at medway high are heading back to class today after a teen tragedy. a classmate died in a car accident. 17-year-old mattie lampson was killed friday when she crashed into a tree in franklin. police are still investigate to figure out what caused that crash. >> a police presence today in rae hoe both regional high school. according to the school district, they received an ambiguous threat last week as on a social media site. police were notified. they responded immediately. the school says no students were in danger. >> crews racing to prepare a

>> pumpkins stolen. believe it or not, in wilmington. this left one boy pretty upset. >> police offered halloween help. trying to make the situation right. >> wilmington police surprising a six-year-old with a sweet treat on halloween after someone swiped his pumpkins. saturday morning, sam noticed his front step. >> sam was very soup set. he sad "dad, we have to call 911." >> mom explained that 911 was for emergencies. they decided to call the business line so their son could report the crime. >> someone stole our pumpkins. >> someone stole your pumpkins? >> they were very, very nice. they took a statement. they took a description of the pumpkins and told him that, okay, we have a squad car in the area. we are going to come by and talk to you. >> within a half hour, three officers arrived to meet sam. and toad him to open the door

to the patrol car. >> there was a whole family of pumpkins in there. a couple of them fell out. he jumped back and was completely beside himself. they gave us the pumpkins. and big bag of candy. >> it is what they do every day. you know, we don't see it. it doesn't get celebrated a lot. these type of things happen quite often. i'm really just appreciative of my folks and the hard work that they do. >> the story posted on social media already has more than 600,000 shares. sam's parents wanted sam to have a positive experience with police. >> it was fantastic. >> officers replaced the six stolen pumpkins with eight new ones. sam, obviously very happy. he told his dad he still wants police to catch thebag bad guy. >> a fire-fight in south boston when flames erupt in an apartment complex for elderly residents. that story started in a fourth-floor apartment on l night.

officials say the flames were contained to a single apartment there. surrounding units had to be evacuated. as a precaution. most of the people who live the have been let back into the complex. four people, however, were displaced. >> two people were taken to the hospital. two elderly people. one firefighter was taken with the hand laceration. >> both of the elderly residents were treated for minor injuries. fire investigators believe the fire was caused by someone who did not properly put out their cigarette. we have new details now on a possible sign of the missing cargo ship that disappeared back in october when hut by hurricane joaquin. the n.t.s.b. has captured images of the ship on the bottom of the ocean. it is resting upright in one piece. divers will dive down to try to find the data recorder. the families of the crew members onboard have mixed feelings towards this new discovery. >> i wanted answers.

but my heart wants hope. it is struggling to find that balance. it is just a nightmare. >> several of the families have filed lawsuits, claiming the ship had a history of problems. the ship's owner, however, has not commented on the lawsuits. >> now the a developing story: investigators still trying to figure out what caused a russian plane to crash, killing all crew members and passengers onboard. the airliner went down in egypt. bill neely reports now from cairo. >> coming home: on a plane into their home city, the bodies of 144 people who left russia for vacation in egypt. this is where they died, but why is still a mystery. it is debris so scattered, investigators say the plane broke up in midair. the tail found three miles from the cockpit. amid the poignant reminders of the lives lost, they are searching for clues and ruling out nothing. >> one of the things that you can't rule out at this time, is whether or not there was an

on the aircraft. >> a group affiliated with isis said they downed the plane. their claim has been dismissed by egyptian and russian officials. the airline says no technical fault could have caused the crash. only a mechanical impact on the plane. could have caused the break-up. the jet had an accident once before. its tail damaged landing in cairo 14 years ago. it passed inspection six months ago in ireland. the airline says the incident didn't affect the plane's safety. for now, all eyes are on the black box flight recorders recovered from the scene. they are still being examined in cairo. the voices and data on those most likely to unlock this mystery. although terrorism isn't being ruled out, officials here in egypt and in russia say the most likely cause is a technical or mechanical failure that caused that sudden plunge and break-up of the plane. here in cairo, meanwhile, the

condition this afternoon. we are told that he is expected to pull through from these serious injuries. however, as the investigation continues, police are now appealing to the public for anybody who saw anything maybe connected to the stabbing to come forward. we are live from everett this afternoon, steve cooper, 7 news. >> a mosque in burlington vandalized. putting the worshipers there on edge. take a look at this surveillance video. you see those two vandals. center. then they spray-paint u.s.a. all over the building. and even threw eggs at the building. back in 201, this same mosque was vandalized. >> more news now today: fast dog seriously wounded in brockton after a stabbing on the street. the injured dog is a pit bull. witnesses say he and another dog were fighting yesterday when the owner of one dog took matters into his own hands. >> he was trying to get his dog off the other dog. he was trying to get the dog

had locked jaws. >> police are hoping that microchips can help them find these puppies stolen from a kennel in holliston. the ten-week-old puppies were snatched by thieves who broke into the kennel friday night. the microchips don't have a gps tracker in them. if someone takes those dogs to a local vet, they should be able to scan the chips and identify the dogs. a condo complex in danvers goes up in flames. the fire started just before 2:00 sunday morning. fortunately, no one was hurt. >> 7 news now turning to the weather on this monday afternoon. a live look outside. certainly, doesn't feel like november out there. we have a warm week ahead. let's check in with j.r. for the good news on that. >> low 60's right now. it will behave more like october than november for just about the entire week. beverly, 63. afternoon. 60 degrees. more clouds down south of the pike. but even down here, these are not rain-making clouds. at times, they kind of block out the sun. they make it more of a

labrie case in new hampshire. lawyers for the victim might file a lawsuit against st. paul's school in concord. according to the union leader, one lawyer says the so-called senior salute at the school allowed the sexual assault to take place. the senior salute is a tradition where older boys seek out younger girls prior to graduation. in august, labrie was convicted of stachtory rape last week. labrie was sentenced to one year in jail and five years of probation. >> according to the "boston herald", the mayor's c.o.o. sent an e-mail that the windy car had two weeks to reach the nyse agreements it would need to host the labor day weekend race. that race is set to be held in the seaport district. the former uconn student arrested after demanding mac and cheese at the student union will appear in court later on this month. he is set to be arraigned coming up november 23.

video from last month shows him pushing an employee after being denied service. the 19-year-old was denied food because he was drunk, workers say. >> a federal court ruling in favor of a blind man in denver after police there say he was found guilty of excessive force. the 80-year-old says he was attacked by an officer back in 2012. the court says that officer was crossing the line, but the department doesn't see it that way. nick emmons has this story. >> moments before a denver police officer slammed his head into a greyhound ticket counter, an eld earl reblind man was trying to get the next ride home. he wasn't having any luck. a security guard asked him to leave. s if. >> all of a sudden, he yelled out, "you are trespassing. you are going to have to get out of here." >> security called police without white's knowledge. confused by who was around him, white asked to see the officer's badge. >> he says "how are you going

the powerful blast shattered windows nearby and sent debris flying into neighboring homes. one man was injured, police say, with severe burns. officials say the blast may have been due to a gas leak. they are still investigating. >> chipotle closing all 43 locations in washington state in oregon because of an e. coli outbreak. 22 cases were reported in the two states with 18 people needing to be hospitalized. officials say as more people hear about the outbreak and start experiencing sims toms, they will probably go to hospitals as well. it is suspected a food item is to blame. it is still not know which one. fresh off a september visit to the united states, pope francis is already planning to return to north america. he will be visiting mexico in february. the pope had originally planned to go to mexico before coming to america. out. mexico's archbishop says the mostly catholic nation is welcome. senator, one-time presidential candidate and

working actor has died at the age of 73. >> thompson's family released a statement which said he died after recovering from lymphoma. here is more about his career in politics and on the screen. >> before he was an actor and before he was elected to office, fred thompson was a lawyer by trade. he was part of the watergate investigation that led to president richard nixon's resignation. he was a big man. he stood 6'6" and had a big voice to match. >> the president, as you know... >> which served him well in hollywood. as an actor, he was often cast as an authority figure. a political leader or military officer. the role he is best known for, district attorney arthur order. in 1994, he ran for a senate seat in tennessee. thompson was a republican who appealed to voters as a conservative who would challenge president clinton. he left the senate in 2003. saying, "he didn't have the heart for another term." he tried his hand at politics

>> it is a treat. along with all the leftover candy. it is better for us to be eating this than the kids. >> ours is hidden in the bedroom closet. >> ours is still on the kitchen counter where i'm gobbling it up. i tell the kids, it is so much better for me to get the calories. >> beverly, 63. 50's and 60's. a nice november day. if you are doing yard work today, this is also in your favor. not much wind. i mean, this time of year, you try to rake leaves. if you have a 20 or 0-mile-per-hour wind, kicking the leaves around and kicking them from your neighbor's yard back into your yard, not a good thing. with high pressure so close, this essentially means very little wind out there. and no rain. there have been a couplele of clouds flirting with southern new england at times during the morning hours. that will be the case for the afternoon. this weather system will do just that. it will stay to our south and not bother us: with anything significant. high pressure calling the shots for the next couple of days.

now, as the high is cruising across new england and gets into the atlantic in this situation on wednesday here, it will set up a sea breeze effect, if you will. wednesday afternoon. so that afternoon, the numbers for metro boston, north and south shore will take a step back, closer to normal. but even doing that, i still think the numbers wednesday afternoon will finish above which is about 56. above. that we are in the 60's. boston this afternoon, 64. fitchburg at 60. hyannis at 60 degrees. for tonight, mostly clear, cool. most of us will find a home down into the 40's. the city of boston, this is your number: close to 50. some of the cold spots, finding briefly, dn into the upper 30's. for a short time tomorrow morning. then through the day tomorrow, lots of sunshine. and warm. temperatures tomorrow, upper 60's. today, lower 60's. around 60 degrees. then for tomorrow, the numbers will reach the upper 60's. the city around 68.
