>> christa: we are following breaking news first up at noon today. police make an arrest in connection with a disturbing discovery out in worcester. a woman's body inside a car that was on fire. so this afternoon, a man is charged with misleading this investigation. let's get a live report from jennifer eagan in our newsroom. jen? >> reporter: detectives are calling this a homicide now. worcester police say an adult female's body was discovered inside a burning scar near swan avenue in worcester. police were first called to that scene to respond to the fire. yesterday, detectives arrested

40-year-old thomas hogan from worcester and charged him with misleading the investigation. he is now being arraigned in worcester county district court. investigators have not released the name of the victim yet. in the newsroom, 7 news. >> christa: all right, thank you. a lobster boat going up in flames in ipswich. a man onboard jumps off and good samaritans rescue him. let's go to jonathan hall. he is on the phone in ipswich with more on quite a remarkable rescue here. >> reporter: yeah. quite a scene from sky 7. right? a 28-foot lobster boat called the dawn-breaker going up in flames. the ipswich fire department was the first to respond. they found that the lobsterman had been rescued by a couple of fishermen in two different boats. the guy was well-prepared. he had his marine radio. put out an s.o.s. that he was abandoning ship. engine overheated. as he was coming around from plum island, he decided to fight the fire with the fire extinguisher.

and then finally, the fire department arrived. the guy did not require any treatment. the boat is at the bottom of the atlantic at this point. more coming up at 12:30. live in ipswich, jonathan hall, 7 news. >> christa: all right. thank you. dramatic pictures there. now turning to our weather outside. we could break a record today with the warmth. so unusual for november. these temperatures. it is a little overcast in that live picture. what else is going on? >> reporter: well, here is the thing. the record is 73. now. beverly at 72. fitchburg, 73. year. the normal high is 55. we didn't even have temps that low during the morning hours. boston, again, i'm advertising 74. now, there are a lot of clouds. more than we had yesterday. that may slow down throughout the afternoon. it may be a crawl just to get to 73. i'll stand firm with my worcester at 71.

that record is 70 back in 1978. the other unusual thing about today, the humidity in the air. we can have warm days. when you have dew point temperatures in the 60's, early november, that is very unusual. is this going to last for a few days? no. this right here, that is a cool front. that is charging east out of new york state. that will move the humidity and the 70-degree weather out of new england for the weekend. we will talk more about that coming up. >> christa: also on 7: a man accused of raping several women on the boston esplanade and in south boston is in court today being arraigned. alejandro jones is accused in four attacks between 2006 and 2010. all lanes are back open on the sagamore bridge right now after a messy head-on collision involving a truck carrying cranberries. police believe the driver of the truck swerved avoid a car that didn't yield.

the cranberry truck then going in the opposite direction. so cranberries still all over the roadway. fire trucks used bins and the driver of the seafood truck suffered serious injuries as well. now to a developing story in russia. flights to egypt until security is improved at its airports. of course, this comes as u.s. and british intelligence suggest that an isis bomb likely brought down that russian jet in egypt. victoria warren reports from logan airport where there is already talk of changes at airports here at home. >> reporter: sounding the alarm on aviation security, there are more reports out that a russian jet likely crashed in egypt due to a bomb onboard. already isis has claimed responsibility for that attack twice. >> we cannot be certain that the russian airliner was brought down by a terrorist bomb. but it looks increasingly like

it. >> if it is, it is a real-game changer in terms of isis. >> reporter: this would be the first terror attack on aviation since september 11. he considers logan one of the most secure r secure airports in the country and said nationwide change is already coming. >> the good news is before this incident that occurred in egypt, we have already been on the... in the process of analyzing and taking a cold hard look at the inadequate nature of our security at airports in this country. we have already started making changes. >> reporter: experts say if it was a bomb, it was likely placed on the plane at an egyptian airport. there are calls for new screening procedures for flights headed here. >> the obama administration is reviewing a number of different steps we can take to enhance security for

the united states. >> the weakest link in that network affects all of us across the country. >> reporter: the investigation continues. officials in egypt and russia say that it is too early to say that this was definitely a bomb. at logan airport, victoria warren, 7 news. >> christa: breaking news in washington right now. president obama rejecting the keystone xl oil pipeline that ends a 7-year review of the request made by canadian company trans-canada. now, this proposed 1100-mile pipeline would have carried 800,000 barrels of oil per day from the canadian oil sands to the gulf of mexico. more news today. back at home, a mansfield man accused of using knives to try and attack a mother and her baby are headed to court. officers arresting a 27-year-old on thursday. he is set to be charged with assault with a deadly weapon. police say the incident happened inside a mansfield apartment complex yesterday afternoon.

she was there apparently, to help the mother move out. a body was found in a local cemetery: found behind an old cemetery in a wooded area. said to be that of a man with no other identification. a pepperell police officer is now indicted for allegedly using excessive force. officer armando herrera was in court yesterday. this incident back in september where prosecutors say he choked a woman who was in custody for being drunk and then lied in a police report about what really happened. he resigned back in october and is headed back to court coming up next month.

a huge wooden post came crashing through a windshield on an interstate in springfield. >> i was incredibly fortunate. >> a piece of wood shot through the windshield of her car. kicked up by a track or the-trailer in front of her on interstate 91 in springfield wednesday, leaving her no time to react. >> so fast. you didn't have time to think about it. you didn't have time to think, oh, my god. this thing is coming at me. >> reporter: the piece of wood inches from her face, she managed to pull over to the side of the road. >> after it is all said and done and you are sitting there and looking at it, as i'm waiting for the tow truck, and i'm like, oh, my goodness. >> reporter: she got lucky, she says. the wood hit her dashboard first allowing her to walk away with just a scratch on her hand. >> it could have been a disaster. all i have to deal with is a broken windshield and minor damage to the car. so very, very fortunate.

>> christa: we are following friday. a gruesome discovery in worcester. a woman's body found inside a burning car. this afternoon a man is charged with misleading the investigation. worcester. us. with more. steve in >> reporter: well, investigators have been working this case around the clock. some late-breaking information coming in. the worcester county district attorney's office releasing a ago. in connection with an appearance here at the courthouse earlier today. an arrest connected to the 40-year-old thomas hogan of worcester has been charged with intimidating a witness. and he is being held this

afternoon on $3,000 cash bail. prosecutors asked the judge to hold on him on $50,000 cash bail. his arrest comes hours after that grim discovery late wednesday night when the body burning car. this was in the woods right off of swan avenue here in worcester. no word this afternoon on whether hogan will be facing additional charges. but we do know that a prosecutor told the judge a short time ago that hogan is a suspect in the murder of that woman. now, the victim's name hasn't been released. and no indication of any sort of motive here. according to the clerk's office, minutes ago, the judge has impounded all of the paperwork connected to this case. so police are still working the case. they are awaiting autopsy results on the victim here. but again, one person is this murder. and police say that person, thomas hogan, is considered a suspect in the murder of that woman. we are live in worcester this

news. >> christa: breaking news in the waters off ipswich. a lobster boat going up in flames, and a man onboard jumped. he is rescued by a good samaritan. let's go to jonathan hall. and jon, this sounds like an amazing rescue here. >> reporter: christa, i think so. the guy was in the water for 20 minutes. the boat called the dawn-breaker is now at the bottom of the atlantic after burning up. as you say, the man, the lobsterman in this case is okay after he was forced to jump right into the sea. take a look at some of this video from sky 7. fire officials say the lobsterman was coming around the tip of plum island. the engine overheated and eventually caught fire. the man was well-prepared for the emergency and to abandon ship. he tried to use a fire extinguisher. he couldn't keep up with the flames. the ipswich fire department was first on the scene. a lieutenant in charge of the crew says the lobsterman is fine but his 28-foot lobster boat sank and is at the bottom. he was rescued by other

fishermen who heard his call for help on a marine radio. >> those two other boats were on scene there. two people were fishing. they plucked the fishermen out of the water. but when we arrived on scene, he told us that he was in the water for about 20 minutes. which saved him from the temperatures. >> reporter: the ipswich crew was quickly joined by the gloucester police boat. the harbormaster was out there and coast guard vessels as well. this lobsterman did everything right. he had the radio, the flotation devices. he had the immersion suit. what he doesn't have now is a boat. but he has his health. >> christa: breaking news out of washington right now. president obama rejecting that keystone oil pipeline which ends a 7-year review of the request made by the canadian

the record for boston is 73. worcester, your record is 70. so it will be close with those record highs. again, back in 1959, on this date, we had a high of 73. worcester back in 1978. now, we have more humidity in the air today, too. dew point temperatures running in the low to mid-60's. this, too is unusual for the first part of november. clouds and sun. in fact, a fair amount of clouds out there through the afternoon. no rain out of the clouds. nice warm afternoon. record warmth. breezy, humid. temps between 70-75. cooler weather on the way for the weekend. we will talk more about that in two minutes. >> christa: crews in new york have removed a small plane from the water in queens following a deadly crash. these pictures were posted on twitter last night showing the removed the wreckage from the water. that plane headed for new hampshire crashed on wednesday night. it was registered out of rye. and according to officials, the plane took off from

landed safely in philadelphia. it men the took off again from philadelphia wednesday before then crashing into the water. the victim here is james mcgee. the only person onboard. investigators say he was flying home to new hampshire and people who live in the area say they have seen several plane crashes over the years at that very same spot. officials are now trying to figure out exactly what went wrong with this flight. also, tragedy to report on an arkansas highway overnight. officials say at least six people were killed. eight others injured. when a charter bus crashed. victoria price has more. >> reporter: the scene is the investigation continues into what exactly caused this charter bus to crash on interstate 40 earlier this morning. what we know so far from arkansas state police is that around 1:00 this morning, a charter bus traveling from michigan to texas westbound on interstate 40 managed to go off the roadway, colliding with the pillar of an overpass. the bus continued to travel

for a quarter of a mile before eventually coming to a stop. now, six confirmed killed from this accident. another eight taken to local area hospitals. another eight taken to a nearby hotel. thanks to the response from the red cross. as of right now, we are told that most of those hospitalized have now been released. now this is a matter of learning more from arkansas state police as to what exactly caused that bus to go off the roadway earlier. we are expected to learn more from them today. i'm victoria price. >> christa: the f.b.i. is searching for a killer in manchester. a 6-year-old woman was shot and killed while she was out for a walk in her neighborhood back in august. and still months later, her murder remains unsolved. nicole oliverio has the latest now from manchester. >> reporter: more than two months have passed since the shooting death of denise robert. in that time there, have been no arrests and no clues until now.

crime scene, searching with metal detectors. renewing hope for robert's family that their sister's killer will be found. >> there is a bit of anxiety because people would like this to be solved. right away. it is taking some time. >> reporter: robert was shot and killed august 30 while taking her normal sunday evening walk in the same neighborhood where she grew up. >> we grew up in that end of town. not right next to the area. but most of my brothers and sisters identify, you know, the north end of manchester, as home base. she was comfortable with it. >> reporter: robert appears to have been a random target. no one knows who or why anyone would have wanted to kill her. people who live in the manchester neighborhood hope this latest search means police are getting closer to making an arrest. >> i think we are fortunate to live in the neighborhood and in a city that cares that much.

and she deserves... her name to be kept alive until they >> reporter: federal investigators may be back on the scene later today. >> christa: alarming allegations in framingham. an 18-year-old is accused of raping a fellow student while the two were supposed to be in class. the alleged victim was intoxicated and partially found her in some woods near the high school. the suspect claims the two had consensual sex. his attorneys are questioning the school. >> somebody needs to look at the school. this happened during school hours. somebody should have been watching them. i don't want to discuss my client at this time. i think somebody needs to investigate what's going on at the school. >> christa: his attorney says no one is financially responsible for him and he has

potential suspects after a a fire-fight in falmouth ends with a home owner opening fire. the home owner told police he he thought someone was breaking into his house. he went outside to check things out. and that is when he saw his house was on fire. he saw one suspect shot at him twice. as the man took off, the suspect's motive still unclear today. >> find whoever it is, yes. i mean, i can't see anybody putting any old person's house on fire. i would gather that maybe there was an issue somewhere along the line. >> christa: the suspect also cut the brake lines off the home owner's car. a somerville police officer is honored for going above and beyond the call of duty. and her act of kindness took a driver by surprise. as adam williams reports, it is what that auflser did after the stop that is getting all the attention today. . >> i have always been taught since i was a child, if you have the ability to do something niles for someone,

you should do it. >> reporter: when she pulled over a woman for speeding in somerville the other day and saw her crying, the last thing she wanted to do was write a ticket. that driver told this police officer her mother was being moved to hospice. so the officer let her go with a warning. she felt a deep sense of empathy for the driver and did something rather remarkable. and well-wishes. something this officer says she was glad to do. >> we wear a uniform and we do a job. we are human beings, too. we have feelings. if you have the ability to help them, you do it. what better job to do to help someone than be a police report tt mayor says the city is proud. >> who she is, her character. >> christa: great story there. here is another story about a woman who gained nationwide attention when she was left at the altar. she decided to donate all her wedding reception food to the needy and she is talking about her decision now to help others and how she turned her hurt into help. here is jadiann thompson.

>> christa: astronaut scott kelly is back at the space station for another spacewalk. this is kel qees spekd spacewalk in about two weeks' time. back here on earth and in boston, there is a new greek restaurant that opened up. it opened its doors a few weeks ago. today the chef is cooking up a chicken dish and he calls it greek comfort food.
