the-quarters o an inch of rain. a little bit over that in lunenburg and also in pepperell too. it was really something to see. the cape got hit pretty hard and south shore hit pretty hard because they are close to the storm. you hit it hard here but missed out really north and west of boston. boston we picked up close to half an inch. but elsewhere again a tenth of an inch to a quarter of an inch. then that swath through the nashoba valley and then you picked it up again in manchester and up into central new hampshire. this was one for the memory banks, and the books too. if we had a winter forecast and we were throwing out snowfall am, i can't imagine. this is our next weather plains. it's far off, severe weather in iowa but it comes to us as showers tomorrow late day. it's moving quickly too. it will have to book if it's getting here by

meet them out for a date but them robbing that person at gunpoint instead. >> i think people just need to be more careful. like don't just trust reporter: investigators say there have been about a half a dozen robberies reported in the past few weeks in mat -- matta pan -- mattapan and roxbury. >> do our due process, ask questions. >> people are starting do a little bit more digging inherently but people need to do more to be safe. reporter: the biggest tip out there because so many people do meet their loved one is meet that person out in public and anyone with information about this crime is asked to call boston police asapp. kelli o'hara, 7 news. 7 news now with a dramatic scene in dorchester, a man on a mbta bus threating to hurt himself. turns out he's a veteran fighting one of his

the man desperate for help and two police officers were there. dan hausle live in dorchester with the story for us. reporter: what happened here at columbia road at dudley, there's an intersection that had been resurfaced here, that had some detail cops out here. one of those officers said, the kind word he offered that made a big difference. an mbta officer walks away with a small axe and a plastic evidence bag. minutes later police say this man on this bus put the axe to his neck and threatened to hurt himself. four passengers were on board when the passenger pulled out the axe. he spotted several boston officers working a detail. the bus driver jumped out and called for help. one or two officers got on the bus when the officers learned the troubled map was a veteran, one officer said thank you for your service. police say the simple words of appreciation

calmed the man down. the membership agreed to put down the axe and come off the bus on his own. the driver and when i passengers okay. the man with the axe taken to the hospital for evaluation. the businessman to took the puck tour credits the officers for their quick and thoughtful action. >> it could have been worse. now it's safe, so the guy's alive. nobody got hurt so it's a good thing. reporter: the man taken off the bus will face charges. we're live in dorchester, dan hausle, 7 news. massachusetts attorney general maura healey honoring hero this is veterans day. she worked with a team of new england center for homicide veterans in boston and served them lunch. before lunch she get a tour of the new construction going on at the facility. in framingham more than 100 got together to mark veterans day.

and pinning ceremony. the veterans who attended all received an honorary certificate and pin from honorary personnel. charlie baker joined dozens of veterans for recognizing service and sacrifice. governor baker reminded everyone to thank our military members not just on veterans day but every day. >> there was no veterans day parade in marshfield today. organizers canceled about concern over low turn-out. there was still the ceremony at the veterans memorial park. jonathan hall joins us live in marshfield with more. reporter: coming at you from that park tonight. in fact, there was a very good veterans day celebration here, lots of people came. as you say, there was no parade through the streets. organizers say it's a social thing, mom and dad can't get the day off from work but they

next year. marshfield. >> every one of us today should go, walk up to a veteran and say thank you so very much for your service. reporter: bundled up in a warm blanket, a world war ii vet named roger, an army man who served in the pacific and he's not happy there's no parade this year. >> it's crazy. they should be honoring the veterans. reporter: but roger was happy to get a happened made card from a little girl named grace. her mom had the idea. >> kids need to understand veterans are an important part of our life and we want to acknowledge them and thank them. reporter: it was the parade committee call to cancel the year. they did it because of poor attendance in recent years. >> we hope maybe this might be the wake-up call. i can't wait to see what memorial day is going to be like. reporter: to show their support

for veterans, hundreds turned out to attend the veterans day ceremony in a cold, november rain. >> ironically several canceled because of there beautiful weather but we're here. it was a powerful day when an easton teenager got pulled up on stage to play with u2 at the garden back in july. remember that? now he's trying to get a chance to head out on tour with the group. >> i do remember. tonight the waiting game begins. shuttle shuttle is in the news room with the story. reporter: he enjoyed the u2 concert just like everyone else. that's when bono spotted him and pulled him up on stage. now they plan to puck one lucky fan from a previous show to join them up on stage. brian wants that one luke fan to be him. >> i think what sets me apart from the other people is they have had experiences in their life. i'm young. this is the coolest thing that's ever compared to any of my friends, what they've done, and i have his guitar in my room.

rain drops. >> frowney faces. >> 47 in boston. dew point reading about 44. north wind at 13 miles an hour. oh, my, the cape was hit pretty hard. mashpee to hingham, we had heavy rain through marshfield as well. still a good soaking at .7. from andover to millis, nada, quarter inch and just over a tenth of an inch in natick. so we picked it back up again out on route 2 back into pepperell. close to an inch as well in fitchburg. it was just that gap between 495 and 128. rain returns tomorrow. it will at least bring some showers in, not a soaking though. seasonable weekend as we go back into the lower 50s. that's normally where we should be for this time of year. your wet weather is confined to drizzle and

patches on the south shore hanging on out to cape cod too. this goes up into southern maine as well. just kind of floating around here. nothing heavy and it's slowly fading. 47 in town. same out through waltham, up through lexing tofnlt not much chain frnl change from boxford to lowell. cape cod in the 50s. by the way we're close to 60 in nantucket. the wind gusting at 36. that storm case close enough to bring in that mild air but then pulled away. those winds will ramp down tonight and pick up tomorrow out of the southeast. cloud cover, boy, it's tight tomorrow. not much in the way of sunshine. if we see it, it will be in glimpses and patches. this is a very fast-moving weather system. it's out on the plains in iowa right now and the midwest and it comes
