when a group tried to today, the police were called in. construction in west roxbury. a controversial gas pipeline is going in despite a determined group of protesters. >> i see death. that's all there is. that can blow any time. >> reporter: residents fear the project isn't safe. today a small group linked arms and crossed directly into the construction site in an effort to make a human barricade. >> they need to see that as a community, we are all together in it. we don't want something like this in our community because it's very dangerous. >> reporter: the police came in to arrest several protesters. the pipeline is part of an extension of a line that runs from new jersey to boston. the group tried to fight the project in court but lost. despite today's arrest, some people promised a fight isn't over yet. >> people are standing up for their lives. >> we are going to keep trying. we are going to try to shut them down. >> reporter: no one from the

company putting this gas pipeline in was available on scene to give comments. the protesters we spoke to say they plan to be back out here again tomorrow. live in west roxbury, victoria warren, 7 news. >> jadiann: now turning to the weather. and we are in for... well, a little bit of a wet day later on. here is a live look outside. you see the clouds out there, bri. what does that mean for us? >> reporter: not as wet as yesterday, jadiann. remember the storm system making headlines yesterday. thunder-snow, blizzard conditions. rolling through the rockies. severe weather through the plains. here is that storm now. and the front is lifting through our neck of the woods to bring us another round of showers for the afternoon. you see those showers already starting to creep in as we take a closer look through worcester county. up through athol and down through buzzards bay. it is lighter activity of showers than what we saw yesterday. we are not expecting inches. however, i do think everybody gets their fair share of this. the fair share being around a tenth of an inch to maybe a quarter of an inch.

looking ahead through the timeline here, it takes until 3:00 or 4:00 this afternoon for those scattered showers to become more widespread. there could be some areas that see steady rainfall for some time. this storm system, it is really cruising through here. and it will make its way out by the time we hit midnight tonight. starting to see the cloud break apart. clearing skies means the return of sunshine for tomorrow. for today, the clouds stick around with us. the temperatures stay in the low 50's for highs. that is normal for this time of year. we will be back into the 60's next week. extended forecast in a few minutes. >> jadiann: the body of a missing lowell woman has been found. elga crespo was found in a thick wooded area on chelmsford on monday. she was reported missing on october 25. there were no obvious signs of foul play. her disappearance triggered a massive search by law enforcement agencies, including here in lowell where a team searched the area in and around her apartment complex. crespo's death remains under investigation by police and

the middlesex district attorney's office. also on 7: a bad crash on the cape sending a state trooper to the hospital. investigators say a driver going the wrong way slammed head-on into the police krutzer. nicole oliverio has the latest. >> reporter: state police trooper placed in an ambulance after his patrol car was hit head-on by a wrong-way driver. the injured trooper was one of two trying to slow and warn drivers that a pick-up truck was heading in the wrong direction along route six in barnstable. state police got the call around 11:30 last night. they say an 80-year-old man was heading east in the westbound lane. it is unclear how long he was driving in the wrong direction, but he eventually crashed into the state police cruiser near exit six. the barnstable fire department responded and say it took a trooper out of his damaged car. the trooper was taken to cape cod hospital where he has already been treated and released and is expected to be okay. investigators say the elderly driver suffered from a medical condition and should haven't

he was also taken to the hospital as a precaution. the elderly driver was cited and will be summoned to court. looking to have his license revoked immediately. in yarmouth, nicole oliverio, 7 news. >> christa: two people recovering after a bad crash in lowell. two vehicles collided last night at an intersection. but didn't break through the wall. a teenager is behind bars after a shooting in hyde park last month. police arrested the 19-year-old at his apartment on wednesday. they recovered a handgun which they say may have been used to... in the shooting. the charlestown man accused of pointing a fake gun at driver appears before a judge. he pled not guilty in the road rage case. he was arrested tuesday after he allegedly pointed a fake gun at a woman during a traffic inincident in medford. his bail was readvocate due to

and battery case in may. police arrest a man in lowell after a by call for help. a pennsylvania man contacted them about what sounded like a desperate call for help from another gamer. the video game call of duty is full of guns, fights, and explosions. early tuesday morning, that dramatic violence became all too real for an air force vet in pennsylvania. he was playing the game with a woman in lowell. he tells us by phone she told him she had been kidnapped. >> they said they would kill her if she left the house. >> reporter: this man called police several states away to report a stranger in trouble. >> dispatch gets a call from pennsylvania. he says he is playing an on-line game with a woman in lowell who tells him she is being held against her will. >> reporter: police found the woman they were looking for. she wasn't kidnapped. she had a fight with her boyfriend. she tells 7 news it is a case

of miscommunication. but while investigators were in the apartment, they say they found a replica ar-15 assault rifle and drugs. they arrested and charged the woman's boyfriend jose white. the tipster says he did what he thought was right. >> i wasn't trying to bust the entire house. i was mainly trying to help out with her health and well-being. this was the first time i have done something like. that i thought it was necessary and needed to be done. >> reporter: 7 news spoke with the suspect in this case off camera. he says he was wrongly arrested. >> jadiann: new details on a deadly plane crash in ohio. investigators are looking into the plane plunge after recovering the cockpit voice recorder from the scene. a new surveillance vild owe was released. you can see the explosion. nine people were killed when the small jet crashed into an empty apartment building. in akron. including two pilots and 7 passengers who were employees of a property management firm in florida.

showers president arey much throughout the afternoon and into the evening. by the time we hit 11:00, maybe midnight, we start to see those clouds pull apart. some dry air working in. that will be the return of sunshine for tomorrow. how much rainfall are we talking? a tenth of an inch to a quarter of an inch. compare that to nearing three inches on cape cod yesterday. so this is nothing compared to what we saw yesterday morning. but this is our best chance at seeing rain. and we could use every drop that we get as we head through the next 7-10 days. really nothing down the pipeline. we will keep an eye on that. november temperatures: a warm start. many of us loving it. some of us thinking all right, it is too warm for november. we are almost nine degrees above average for this time of year. two record-tying temperatures. we have been more seasonable for the last couple of days. we will continue that through the weekend. clouds, afternoon showers. 50-55 today. might be pushing it. looks like it will stay on the

firefighters had to think quickly on this one, nancy. >> christa: buddy plummeted into a well on monday. he is feeling much better now. the two-year-old dog spent what must have felt like weeks at the bottom of the well. >> he is probably hungry. he is probably thinking he is going to die. >> i heard him barking. he is always barking. i didn't think anything of it. >> christa: then silence. the next morning, buddy was nowhere to be found. the family looked all over. it was buddy's actual father who found him. >> our dog was standing on the corner of the rock. we thought he might be down there. we went to go look down there.

great advice. the victims were lured to homes in roxbury or mattapan. police also say when using on-line dating sites, dos your homework. ask to face-time, skype or web-chat first. if the person won't do that, they could be hiding something. another red flag is a new or incomplete profile. . >> i try to see if they have facebook. make sure you have to be safe. >> christa: police do think there may be other victims out there. if you know anything about these incidents, police are asking that you contact them. >> jadiann: a dangerous laser strike in new york city. a man aimed a laser at a news helicopter. this ended with his arrest. the incident took place wednesday night. a alcoholer pilot for nbc

it's no laughing matter. >> we are talking about a helicopter here that weighs almost two tons. imagine that coming down on your house. because the pilot's vision is impaired. even more serious is if it was a jetliner. >> jadiann: this comes as the f.a.a. confirmed that three aircraft were targeted by a laser in the dallas area around the same time. two commercial jets and a private business jet. >> christa: a man climbed a scaffolding on wednesday and was aiming this rifle at st. luke's hospital. officers shot him when he pointed the gun toward them. a big blast at a new jersey home killing one, leaving a dozen injured. you can see the debris from this explosion flying right into the air. in this suburban neighborhood. crews do not know the cause of the house explosion. they do believe it is gas-related. two victims are in critical condition.

>> jadiann: gale-force winds are causing high waves along the beaches of lake michigan. people along the shore are bracing for waves that could reach 20 feet. wow. powerful winds there. >> christa: locally, not quite the same. it is still messy out there, bri. >> bri: yeah. all of that is connected, believe it or not. those high waves, that same storm system bringing blizzard conditions and thunderstorms to the rockies. even tornadoes through the plain states. this brings us some showers through the day today. we don't get the brunt of this storm. it does work through up front.

current temperatures, boy, they really haven't budged much. not through the last 24 hours. we have a lot of reports from our weather-spotters who have said, my temperature gauge is good for calibration today because it hasn't changed. the 24-hour temperature change, not that significant. we have been in the similar air mass for that amount of time. front moves through. you see the center of the storm system up here. swirling and twirling. and packing a punch. it is cruising, too. we don't have any big rain-makers that will sit over us for any amount of time. you can see those showers just about ten minutes ago. we were watching them move through worcester. and they are really moving it will be on again and off again with the showers all throughout this afternoon. all throughout this evening. you can see that through the not easy to pinpoint any specific area that will get more rain than another. but i think generally speaking, a widespread tenth of an inch what we are expecting.

that is a far cry from what some areas saw yesterday. similar to some areas, too. man, hit and miss yesterday. that is our best chance at getting some of the much-needed rain for the next 7-10 days. don't see anything down the pipeline here. aside from a warm-up. now, clouds today will keep those temperatures in check. from budging. 49-54 for highs this afternoon. and then showers early, but clearing overnight tonight. will make way for the sunshine tomorrow. to return to the forecast. but the winds are back as well. we are talking breezy tomorrow and getting gusty. as we get into friday afternoon and then saturday as well. the wind gust timeline blasting out of the west. looks like gusts could get up to 30-35 miles per hour. for cape cod and the islands. as we work through friday into saturday and it is a chilly wind on saturday as well. those temperatures may not even make it up to 50 degrees on saturday. let's be honest. normal high for this time of year puts it into perspective
