>> reporter: jihadi john: u.s. officials are work right now to confirm he was, in fact, killed in this attack. here in rochester, new hampshire, james foley's parents through a statement said this latest development offers little comfort. james foley last spoke to his parents in november of 2012. a week before he was kidnapped in syria. in august of last year, they learned of his gruesome murder posted in a video on-line. his masked killer came to be known as jihadi john, was later identified. thursday night, the pentagon announced that u.s. forces had targeted emwazi with an air strike. foley's parents find little killing. in a statement they said q. back. if only so much effort had been given to finding and rescuing jim and the other hostages who were subsequently murdered by isis, they might be alive today." foley grew up in wolfeboro, new hampshire and had been working as a freelance

he along with a fellow prisoner richard matt escaped from the clinton correctional facility last june. matt was shot and killed by officers. >> christa: fanduel and draft kings filing suit against new york's attorney general. both fantasy sports companies filing today, asking that the new york supreme court halt current efforts to shut down the popular on-line games once again in the state. new york's attorney general says the web sites are illegal because regulators believe it is a form of gambling. >> jadiann: happening today: a mother and her boyfriend in court after a teen tragedy in rochester, new hampshire. police say the woman provided her daughter with a lethal dose of drugs. the teen was later found dead in a motel room. nicole oliverio live in rochester with the latest for us. nicole? >> reporter: well, both that mother and her boyfriend were arraigned inside a court just minutes ago. we learned not only were they there when this teen allegedly overdosed and died, prosecutors say they waited nearly 90 minutes to call

and deleted text messages. those who knew 17-year-old eve tarmey say she never had a chance. a teen who claims he was the girl's boyfriend says the woman who should have protected eve, her mother, is responsible for her death. >> i think the mother introduced her to everything. the mother and the boyfriend. they just got her hooked on it. >> reporter: in court, eve's mother and her boyfriend were charged with contributing to the girl's death and covering up evidence. >> the mother. how can she say she loves her daughter when she did these things to her daughter? >> reporter: eve was found unresponsive in a rochester motel where she lived with her mother and the boyfriend. she accidentally overdosed on the prescription drug fentanyl. more powerful than heroin. prosecutors say the two gave eve to drug and were in the motel room when she died. >> i'm sick to my stomach. and glad they are finally arrested. >> reporter: a woman who identified herself as only mary claims the three lived in her fiance's motel two years

finally climbing to near 60? the city of boston sitting at 58 right now. 60 in new bedford. and where did our great sunshine go? well, here come the cloud cover. we are also in for the spot showers. already falling near groton right now. the northeastern part of worcester county. and moving in. through the afternoon, this is what we can expect. light showers. they don't stick around for very long. they don't amount to much. there is enough energy still come around the bottom of the system that we could continue to see that spotty activity through the afternoon. next couple of days, gusty winds, staying with us. and tomorrow, the cooling temperatures will feel very chilly with those blustery winds. what does the rest of the weekend look like? more details in a few minutes. >> jadiann: a woman claiming she was injured in the marathon bombing pleads guilty to defraud one fund, boston. she claims she suffered a traumatic brain injury after running into the second blast. prosecutors say that isn't true. steve cooper live for us outside the suffolk superior

court with more details. steve? >> reporter: lee spent the past couple of years in a very public way, telling her story. at times, criticizing the one fund that was distributing all that money. but today she came here to suffolk superior court and had a different tale to tell. and she pleaded guilty. >> guilty. >> reporter: after she spent two years claiming she suffered a traumatic brain injury running towards the second bomb blast at the marathon finish line in 2013,, the 41-year-old had a change court. and a change of plea. pleading guilty to six counts that included defrauding the one fund by filing false claims for her injuries she never suffered at the bombing. in fact, prosecutors say she let the air... left the area before the explosions and was a block and a half away on fairfield street. >> the defendant was not within 5-15 feet of the bomb blast as she claimed.

she did not sustain a traumatic brain injury. >> reporter: prosecutors wanted lee sentenced to three years behind bars for receiving nearly $40,000 in assistance. but in the end, the judge sentenced her to a year behind bars suspended for three years which means she won't be sent to prison. what did you want to say? did you want to say anything to the victims? she declined to apologize to the victims' families or survivors. the victim. injured. her false claims were a stupid decision, he says. >> she did a stupid thing. she did a stupid thing. she made a claim for stuff she didn't need to. reporth aside from the suspended sentence, the judge ordered lee to repay all the money that she has received. and do it as soon as possible. also to serve 300 hours of community service and she will be on probation for the next three years as well. we are live from boston this afternoon, steve cooper, 7 news. >> christa: now the race for the white house today: donald

candidate who really can bring change. according to the "new york times" survey. 62% of voters would be affected. about 51% polled gave the thumbs-up to bernie sanders. sanders, meantime, is inspiring college students across the country to protest mounting student loan debt and rallied for free tuition at public universities. students in philadelphia took part in thursday's million-student march. and here at home, about 50 students from the boston area gathered on northeastern's campus for a demonstration as well. back in june, sanders said republicans would be forced to tackle the issue if a million young people marched on washington. >> jadiann: coming up, a close encounter for a connecticut couple. now they are speaking out about their honeymoon shark scare. >> christa: the m.b.t.a. reveals the winning design for new trains on three of its lines. >> jadiann: driver drama for uber. a woman says her driver lost

that is really the big headline for the weekend. or at least for today and starring the weekend off tomorrow. blustery, windy, gusty conditions. the wind advisory goes into effect starting at 1:00 this afternoon and stretching into tomorrow morning. but i have a feeling that might be extended through tomorrow. we will keep an eye on it for you. current temperature, impressive, though. bright sunshine to start. help those temps to warm. we have some warm air above in the upper atmosphere upstairs. that is helping the winds, sort of mixing that pot down. we are close to 60 degrees. here are some of the clouds. unfortunately, the bright start can't stay stay with us into the afternoon. we have those spot showers that will pop up. and then they move on very quickly. i don't even think an umbrella is very necessary for these. we have a lot of dry air in place down below the showers. it will take a lot for them to really spike and make it to the ground. a few drops is is a possibility. i'm saying 20% chance of spot showers through today. it is because of all of this

energy that is still rotating around that big storm system to the north of maine. as we move through the timeline here, even this forecast model, maybe underdoing the showers. just bringing them through intermittently throughout the day. it is tough to say who gets them, who doesn't. most of us will stay dry. as we move through tonight. look what happens. snow showers in the berkshires and possibly some flurries as we get off into the worcester hills. now, again, just a very slight chance of showers today. then we are dry through the rest of the weekend. and in through much of next week, if not all of it, wind gusts really will be the top of the weather forecast for today and tomorrow. first out of the west, southwest for today. then out of the west. then tomorrow at times, gusting out of the northwest. that is a very chilly breeze. with our temperatures dropping tomorrow, from near 60 today to near 50 tomorrow, really topping out in the upper 40's. it is going to feel very chilly. maybe heading out to new york

yard is welcome back, everyone. the m.b.t.a. reveals the new designs on the cars for the red, green, and orange lines. people voted on-line. the "t" announced the winners. the m.b.t.a. withdrew the designs for the red and green-line cars because of a suspected case of ballot-stuffing. the winning design was not affected.

a chicago woman describing tense moments after a ride with an uber driver. >> christa: she claims this driver locked her in, wouldn't let her out after he said the ride should have cost more. for ten terrifying minutes, gia said she was locked in a stranger's car. >> your first instinct is like, this is a joke. like, let me out of the car. she requested an uber on monday to travel about a mile from a bank to work. the app charged her $5. but she says her driver thought the ride should cost her more. when she refused to pay him more, he locked her in. >> i was going to kick out the windows. she called 911. he finally let her go. she says the harassment didn't stop there. >> he followed me up to the shop, got out and started screaming. >> she contacted the ride-sharing company and posted about her uber nightmare on social media. she says friends shared similar stories. one woman saying she ended up throwing money at her driver just to get away. >> you just never know. you hear all these different

violence surrounding cowboys player greg hardy. earlier this week, deadspin published the 126-page with the n.f.l. and the players association. according to the transcript, hardy's attorney said the woman tripped and fell, ending up with bruises. the transcript also shows his attorney's describing the accuser as suicidal. this is back in 2014. that he was convicted of choking his ex-girlfriend, slamming her into the bathroom wall, and throwing her on a bed which was covered with assault weapons. it was later overturned on appeal. two weeks after the meeting, hardy signed a one-year deal with the dallas cowboys. >> jadiann: new details in the arrest of jarred fogle. prosecutors are looking for the maximum sentence against the former subway spokesman. prosecutors asked the judge to sentence him to 12.5 years in supervised probation. thursday on possession of

with a minor. >> christa: the surviving victims of a balcony collapse in california have filed a lawsuit. the manager apparently did not close off the structure. six college students were killed when that balcony collapsed back in june. >> jadiann: police have fired the florida officer who shot and killed a man whose car was broken down on the highway last month. an attorney for the family of the 31-year-old cory jones says he was waiting for a tow truck when a plain-clothed officer confronted him. officials haven't given a reason for the termination. an investigation is under way into whether he will face criminal charges. >> christa: a driver on a high-speed pursuit going the wrong way down a highway in southern california. you can see the car is racing past other vehicles. th this was on thursday. police arrested the man and woman after the chase ended. possibly involved in two

or sleep. hopefully that, tea, he discarded it. had caffeine in it. quite gusty for us today. 25-5 miles per hour at this point. the winds will strengthen through the day. the national weather service issued a wind advisory. we would have to see gusts stronger than about 46 miles per hour. that could happen. sustained winds could also be stronger than 1 miles an hour. we are talking about some blustery conditions today and tomorrow. current temperatures low 50's for worcester. the 50's. a big change from yesterday. you remember yesterday, and the night before, we didn't see the temperature gauge bob at all. we are seeing those spot showers showing up. i know you look at this and you think that looks significant. as we take a closer look at radar, there is a good clip that is moving through west of worcester. these showers are kind of dying out as they are moving farther to the east. could get a little wet today. it looks to be a shower that

showers or pop-up showers, it's gone before you can even pop that umbrella. you don't want to pop the windy. now, we are in for the potential for some snow showers in the berkshires overnight tonight. worcester hills. not going to rule that out. there is the potential for. that the temperatures will be cold enough and the moisture there. again, far northwest in the state and in the higher terrain. 20% chance of those showers today. so 80% of us don't see them and we aren't in for a lot of water. more sunshine tomorrow, but it will be windier. we are looking at temperatures topping out in the upper 40's. watch what we move through the out of the west for the most part. with those winds. then tomorrow they start to blast out of the northwest. so this is a chillier wind tomorrow. chillier temperatures as well. it will be chilly tomorrow. just make sure to pack on the partly cloudy. the wind is back with us 58-63.
