>> anchor: we begin with break breaking news incidents going on right now in paris. a shooting and an explosion . >> anchor: there are reports of several people hurt or killed. adam william watching this all from the breaking news desk. adam, what do you have? first of all, as you said reports of an explosion at a bar near a stadium there in paris and then shootout at a restaurant. federal government from a parisian local tv station and you can see that there are armed officers there. you can see they have shields on and what we're hearing is that there are two separate incidents of a shooting at a shootout at a restaurant where fatalities are reported and then that explosion at a bar.

this explosion was heard by spectators at a soccer game, soccer game going on between france and germany in a bar near that stadium. unclear where the restaurant is in relation to the bar. nbc "nightly news" is simply reporting multiple security incidents in the city of paris right now. it's just after 10:30 p.m. in that city on a friday night where you would imagine lots of people are out and about. as far as whether these are connected as we're seeing i'ms here. this looks like broken glass perhaps at that restaurant where gun shots could have gone through that glass. no word right now whether the two incidents are related but obviously a scary and tense situation there in paris and also important to point out no word on whether anybody is in custody for either the explosion or the shootout. you can imagine it's pretty chaotic there for the multiple police agencies working this case and very concerning on this

boom and glass shatter. >> anchor: witnesses describing the frightening moles when this car driven by an elderly woman barrels through the front plate glass window of the honey farms convenience store here on southbridge street in auburn right off the mass pike. all of a sudden it was just like bank . very, very strong, you know. >> anchor: less cue crews rush to the scene. while it turns out the driver the employees. fire officials say thankfully there were no customers inside either when the car made its crashing entrance. there were to customers in the store at the time the vehicle went into the store. there were three employees that were in the store, none of the employees were in the vicinity . >> anchor: the car was towed out the same way it came in of the witnesses say the driver toll them she hit the gas by mistake. we said what happened? she said i'm just embarrassed. my foot slipped off the brake building >> anchor: crews are scrambling to clean up the mess left behind

while customers could only look on in disbelief . this is amazing. going to work and never expect something like this would happen you know? it's friday the 13 . >> anchor: so police are now telling us at this hour they are still investigating the cause of the crash here. the fire chief says that the store won't be able to reopen until all these repairs have been completed. live in auburn, steve cooper, 7 news. now to a story you saw first on . a bus driver is talking about how a few sill examples words may have sad a veteran's life on veteran's day. driver waived down two police officers working on a construction detail in dorchester after the passenger hell a hatchet to his neck and threatened to kill himself. the officer didn't have to use weapons to disarm the man though though. i was pretty much trying to have a conversation with him to keep him at ease and he was telling me all of the stu that . simple words, thank you for your service was what it took for him to put the ax down.

that's according to a new report from the national center for health statistics and as much different from previous estimates of one in 68. experts say this does not reflect a rapid increase in the number of kids affected by autism. researchers simply changed the way they surveyed parents asking specifically if the doctor had autism. when you ask this, you are probably going to get a higher response rate of people saying yes, some within once gave my child that label. the important question is, does . >> anchor: it's possible some doctors only suspected kids had autism . what we may see with childrens a preliminary autism diagnosis who are wait fog that . >> reporter: regardless, numbers show a growing awareness of the disorder and through the years the definition of the spectrum broadened to include more children. experts also say some families may push for a diagnosis of autism to help get much needed services for their children. money follows diagnosis.

and there is a lot more money attached it a diagnosis of autism than there would be to a diagnosis of developmental language disorder . >> anchor: while the percentage of diagnosis increased, the percentage of other developmental disabilities fell. ered soxa edwards, nbc news. >> anchor: checking news across country now, police say three men broke if a home in california and they got a little bit hungry as they ransacked that house. the video here shows the suspects raiding through the tobin bridge and drinking juice. the homeowner was away during the break in. police have arrested one of the three suspects. they hope this video will help them identify the other two intruders. a worker at a louisiana car wash ended up getting caught in one of those spinning scrubbers. look at that the man was cleaning the area when the hoes on the power washer got sucked right into their rotating scrubbing. turns out the hoes wrapped around the man and he started spinning. he managed to slip out after 30 seconds. mat juan not hurt . >> anchor: also on 7 a mother in florida is outraged after school administrators threat yen to file sexual harassment charge

for giving a love note to his crush. school officials say the fourth grader wrote more than one note and they were unwarranted and un unwanted so it borders on harassment. his mother says it was a very sweet note but other students started teeing him and it got out of control from there. how she wears the same uniform and her eyes sparkled like diamonds. my nine-year-old doesn't know what sexual harassment means . >> anchor: school officials say teachers discourage kids from passing notes because it can cause classroom disruptions . >> anchor: a christmas wish belonging to a boy with a rare general thic disorder is slowly coming through. he has a rare general thic disorder. the condition left him bound to a wheelchair. as part of a school assignment for his second grade class he wrote a letter asking for a wheelchair accessible van. the van cost $40,000 an amount his family just can't afford . then i will be able to push myself again.

to push me. his school has started to go fund me page to raise money for the van and make his wish come true this christmas. now to the latest on that break breaking news right now. two incidents going on right now in paris. >> anchor: absolutely. right now there are reports of multiple people hurt or killed at adam williams now watching all of this from the bragging news desk. adam? >> reporter: just getting information according it to cnn 18 people are reported dead right now in this string of violent incidents happening in par, france. this is awful news to bring you on a friday where it's about 10 10:40 p.m. in that city. reports of an explosion at a bar near a sporting arena and then this is a restaurant i believe where there was reports of a shootout and you can see evidence of something going through glass there. again, we tell you unfortunately that according to reports from c cnn right now that so far 18

this string of violence in paris paris. still unclear whether the two incidents are connected and you can imagine law enforcement officials there are very busy searching for whoever is responsible, whether it's an extremist group they have no idea. that's just something that they are probably looking into, whether this is random act of violence by a person or people, all of that is still being sorted out right now, but you can imagine it's very frantic on the streets of paris, france right now. at least two incidents involving extreme violence, explosion at a bar, shootout at a restaurant and at this point cnn reporting 18 fatalities. we'll continue to keep you post posted live from the breaking news desk. i'm adam williams . >> anchor: clearly a lot of developments happening overseas right now

deaths being reported by cnn, a local tv station there in paris is reporting that there is a hostage standoff happening right now at one of the three venues where this violence occurring. one is at or near a sporting venue, one is at a bar, one is at a restaurant. so let's start with the sporting venue. there are explosions heard there there. early reports saying they were hearing explosions coming from nearby bar. at that particular place, we are unclear how many people have been affected by this, how many me have been kill or injured. and then there is a restaurant involved where there was a shoot brought, not clear how close that is in relation to the sporting venue and the bar. but we have images from that restaurant scene where a shoot shootout took place. broken glass, frantic scene, police in what appears to be sort of like riot gear, highly protective outfits and then as i said off the top here the latest information is that there is also a hostage standoff taking

place at one of these three locations. that according to a parisian local television station. you can imagine how frantic they are right now, law enforcement officials, people out on the streets approaching 11:00 p.m. on a friday fight in paris i'm large metropolitan area where obviously a sporting event was going on. people are out and about and violence has struck that city on this friday. confirmed reports of 18 people killed and hostage standoff going on right now. the big question, who is responsible? is this an extremist group? we don't know that yet. is this local gang violence? we don't know that yet. we can only speculate right now which we're careful to do and this appears continue a reporter at the sporting sent uof you can see people exiting. just keep it on this shot for a report. i don't see people running from the scene. they are leaving that scene but i don't see people running. there are a few people running

what do you know right now? we're hearing the french president was at the stadium. it's a soccer match going on when we heard there were reports of these explosions. the france germany soccer game was going on at the time and we are hearing reports that president france what was there, rushed away. no confirmation just yet that he is safe and sound but obviously there is a lot of developments happening right now. we're also hearing right now about this hostage situation that's happening at a concert hall apparently there was a concert going on there at the time as adam mentioned. friday night a very busy hectic night. people are out, they are enjoy enjoying the end of their week. not prepared for something like this at overtakes their city. this is just the same year. we're months past the charlie ebb doe shooting . >> anchor: it's eerily similar to that. we remember people showing up with assault pens and explosion that's happened with that. this is very erie. not sure if there is a connection to this but we're not

make it as clear as possible. it sounds like there are about four different areas in the city of paris where there were attacks. as you said, under siege. a shootout at a restaurant, an explosion at a bar, an explosion outside of a sports stadium where the french president was waving a soccer match. the french president escorted safely and then a hostage situation happening at a theater theater. i do know from reports from the associated press right now that the restaurant, the bar and the sporting arena are all in the general area. same general area. there are reports of as menace 18 people or more dead right now in these attacks. as far as the theater we're still trying to figure out where that is in relation toed explosion and shootout. we do know there is a hostage standoff happening at this theater. who is responsible, that's all being investigated right now. we are showing you images but we believe this is the restaurant

france has been on the edge since deadly attacks by islamic extremists back in january in that sat earial newspaper and grocery store left 20 dead including the three attackers you might recall that, the city has been on edge because of extremism there. whether that's the case tonight, that's still unclear right now. but we are approaching 11:00 in paris. you are looking at live images and you see it looks like swat officers standing behind a vehicle taking cover behind that van. i don't know if this is at the theater where the hostage stand standoff is taking place or one of the three other areas but obviously you would have to assume looking at armed officers here taking cover that they are looking for people and obviously very dangerous people who are still perhaps posing a grave threat to the public there in paris, france. we'll continue to batch this and have more as we continue our newscast here tonight. nancy and ryan, back to you .
