of the city right now aiding to the injured and again trying to get control of a situation involving maybe 100 hostages and gunfire being exchanged between hostage takers and police at a nightclub there in this pat of paris tonight . >> anchor: absolutely to recap if you are joining us now, there seems to be four incidents or so that are happening on the streets of paris. it all seems to be centering around one central area in paris paris. the first is the stadium explosion at least two explosion explosions heard there. the france germany soccer game happen integrity time. then the shootout at the restaurant and we are also the big scene that we're following right now is the hostage situation the a concert hall. 100 people held hostage overall the numbers keep on updating unfortunately. the latest we heard is at least 35 dead and you see a scene from earlier this evening we saw the scene from inside after that explosion happen happened and we are also hearing reports that
6:01 pm
there has been a shooting inside a hall there. ryan, you have been falling all of the latest developments but it just seems to be awful every . >> anchor: just a terrifying night in paris right now. there is a state of emergency that's been declared by the french president there. police in paris, the mayor asking people to stay inside because of what's going on outside right now. as you talked about, number all over the place. the latest we have gathered together, 35 to 40 people dead in multiple explosions and shoot shootings across that area in paris. 100 hostages being held at a theater and the situation is developing pretty fast here. we can tell you that locally here this boston they have sent patrols to believe up patrols to the french kate in the back bay as they make sure people stay safe around that area. once again air terrifying night in paris. 35 to 40 people dead and they have also closed the borders there are france because of what's going on here. state of emergency, eliminating travel, everyone is under attack at this point there.
6:02 pm
they are locking down france indefinitely at this hour. >> anchor: the french president and our president acknowledging in their respective addresses that it is still alive and active situation and it's pretty evidence in the images that we're seeing here. not only tenning to the victims but again over at the nightclub or the theater music venue whatever they call it where there are people being held hostage right now. the real concern in any situation like this is could there be more? are there more? are there going to be more coordinate adtax in that city in other bars or restaurants or places where people gather or is this it? and even if this is it, not knowing who they are dealing with right now is probably a real challenge for police. how do they get a hold of a hostage taker to get hill or her to back down they don't know who to get a hold of in this situation . >> anchor: especially because at this point no group as of yet is taking responsibility but
6:03 pm
clearly, you know, there is so much to be looking at this point which is why parisian police are asking everyone unless it is absolutely necessary to stay inside in the city of paris. kimberly bookman is tracking the latest for us and kimberly we were just talking about these patrols that are being beefed up in the back bay right now at the french consulate. even though there is no specific threat to any sight here in the united states, clearly everyone is taking the philosophy better to be safe than sorry . you know there is oh a lot of concern at this hour as we try to make sense of everything going on in paris. what we can tell you here in the united states is that the department of homeland security did come out and publicly said there is no credible threat of any kind of security problems here in the united states. they did brief president obama and he spoke to the public. basically saying this is absolutely a heartbreaking situation. he said the attack on paris is not just an attack on that city but an attack on humanity.
6:04 pm
once again, we have seen an outrageous attempt to terrorize innocent civilians. this is an attack not just on paris, it's an attack not just on the people of france. but this is an attack on all of humanity and the universal value we share. we stand prepared and ready whatever assistance the government and people need in france to respond. france is our oldest ally french peel have shoulder to shoulder with the united states time and again. we want to be very clear that we stand together with them in the fight against for orism and extremism. paris itself. those who think they can terror terrorize people of france or the values that they stand for are wrong.
6:05 pm
strength from the french people people's commitment to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness. the bonds of liberty and paternity of nor only value the french people care so deeply about but they are values that we share. we're going to do whatever it takes to work with the french people and with nations around the world to bring these terrorists to justice and to go after any terrorist networks that go after our people. we don't yet know all of the details of what has happened. we have been in can't with french officials so our deepest
6:06 pm
have been killed to offer our thoughts and prayers, the situation is still unfolding . >> anchor: the president spoke for about four minutes and one of the other things that he said is here in the united states we understand what terrorism attacks are like. we have had our own situations obviously 9/1 then most recently the boston marathon attacks. that is why boston police are going to step up security here in massachusetts around the french consulate here in the back bay. again, they say it is just a safety measure, it is just at an abundance of caution. there is no immediate threat here but they do want to just take those measures in hopes of making everyone feel more comfortable and safer this evening in light of all of things that going on in paris a very active situation that you continue to see on your screen, adam?
6:07 pm
from certain source here. the emergency that was last implemented in paris during the paris riots so this is an unprecedented move closing borders there giving the events of tonight though it's just awful and the hostage situation that's ongoing right now, i think that a lot of people are thinking about those00 dread of so lives that are in the hands at the orists right now. hopefully negotiations between police and the hostage takers will lend some sort of compassion tore these people that are being held against their will. we do understand that the french military is being deployed to help the local and county police officers and emergency personnel who are dealing with the situation tonight . >> anchor: we saw military personnel in this just a little
6:08 pm
pictures just paris in lock down it is a true state of emergency there and people evacuating different areas as they try to get to safety in whichever way they can. >> anchor: fancy i just want to read it from chn breaking news twitter right now that a witness to the hostage situation in the theater which we were just talking about, the witness says the terrorists were very calm, they reloaded three or four times. it's an erie account. calm terrorists inflicting harm and death on the city that they were calm and reloading and that was one witness account from a person who was in the hostage, in the theater during the hostage situation . >> anchor: just imagine how in inhumane that is. you also think about if they are calm when they are going through all of this, how much thought and how much preparation has gone into this coordination of these attacks on people and how time they have to think and
6:09 pm
prepare in order to inflict as much damage as possible. we heard president obama call this an attack on humanity. but i do juan to say one thing that i have seen on twitter as a # . >> anchor: i'm sorry. this is just a live shot we have of the french consulate in boston. do we have a reporter here that we're going to go to? we just wanted to show this to you and talk about again the increased security. kimberly was telling us that as a precaution boston police have sent out increased security. why don't you elaborate on that . >> reporter: as we mention department of homeland security said there is no threat here in the united states. however, boston police are going to the french consulate. you can see that on your screen right now of they say they are just there out of an abundance of caution. again, no credible threat that anyone is any danger, in i safety concerns but they are there with extra officers just guarding the building and people inside and making sure everything is calm and stays
6:10 pm
again, ten minutes after 6:00 right now. seems lick a calm situation out here in the back bay. adam? >> anchor: looking at more news feeds and hearing that european radio is reporting that there are still active shots being fired whether, which seen that is we can't, we don't know. let's get back over to ryan schulteis to get any more up dates that we might have . >> anchor: adam, i want to talk you back to the stadium. the french national football stadium to when this explosion happened out there. we understand there were two explosions heard outside the stadium during this game the team was playing the germany at this time. let's take a listen to the moments where we heard those explosions. just terrifying to hear explosions as this soccer game is whatting right outside there. a police official did confirm one happened at a mcdonald's near the stadium.
6:11 pm
so we do know that the numbers are over the place, there are 35 to 40 people dead, not clear about what happened at the stadium however there were some reports that may have included some suicide bombers but that is an initial reports at this hour. we're still working to confirm that. this is the moment when game was going on and that explosion was heard. you heard the audible gasp of crowd there and everyone was brought down with shocked views on their face right to the center of that stadium. eventually they were able to be evacuated but just i terrifying night i'm night of fun quickly turned into just a heartache as people try to figure out what had happened there during the soccer game. the french president was there at the time. he was quickly rushed away. we heard from him a little while ago and we talked about this just moments ago how at this moment all of the borders in france have been closed. they are hitting travel. these are extreme measures being taken right now to protect paris to protect france and we're getting different reports of the situation continuing there. people are tweeting from that theater where the hostages are being held.
6:12 pm
that was and hostage takers re reloading and how terrifying it was for people being held hostage and there are witnesses waving that go on. still an active scene there. it's now past midnight there in paris, france. the video is just terrifying to look at, guys. back to you. >> anchor: several sources i'm reading from the free press of france are saying that one of the explosions near the paris stadium was a suicide attack. that has not been confirmed. that's just what sources are france. also reports coming in that are saying the attackers did say nothing and just opened fire while others say that the attack attackers were saying this is for syria. these are reports will' reading from a live feed coming from different news agencies all over the world. i will let you know if they are confirm. these are just reports coming from trusted news organizations but we'll keep actually just
6:13 pm
confirmed, one of the explosions at the stadium was made by and i don't know what that . >> reporter: come y? is that correct? >> anchor: that doesn't make sense to me. that's probably another word for suicide bomb . >> anchor: sure. >> anchor: that was the stadium explosion we saw the video, we saw heard the noise just moments ago of those two explosions and you see the aftermath afterwards afterwards. clearly a night of terror in paris and right now we want to let you listen in to an inter interview we did previously water orism expert here. professor joseph whipple. let's hear what he had to say . my professional opinion is that this is a coordinated terrorist attack. you know, there some question obvious low the french don't want to get ahead of themselves and mick ajudgment before they
6:14 pm
this seems continue a sophisticated, coordinated terrorist attack with a political motive behind it. and that is opposition to french participation in the war against terrorism in the middle east. i think they probably have terrorists probably have greater capability and very large city like france. secondly, france has been one of the certainly leaders in the fight against terrorism in the middle east. they have committed aircraft and training troops in that area so i think major reason. also they probably have a better support network in france than they would in a country like switzer left-hand or hungary. i think their immediate action is to resolve all of the situations that they have. they will obviously call of a
6:15 pm
weeks and months to make sure that the city is safe again and i think slowly but surely the city will return to a sense of normalcy. as noral as we can be in this age of at the orively when we simply cannot be 100% safe. that goes for us, it goes for the french, it goes for a lot of countries. >> anchor: that applies obviously here to the united states as well. that was an interview we did with joseph whipple, a terrorism expert. we were talking earlier about how president obama called this an attack on humanity. whether or not it happened on the streets of paris or in the united states. this is an attack on humanity. one thing i am seeing is an overwhelming urge to help. i am seeing on twitter this # port auvert where parisians are offering their home as safe havens for people to spend the night. that is something that is now trending. people opening up the doors for perfect strangers saying this is now past midnight.
6:16 pm
we don't know what's happening on the streets. there is military on the streets streets. come to our homes. come inside. we will host you. so yes, there may be an attack on humanity as president obama put it but you see human nature and kind necessary still prevailing over all. >> anchor: i think those are on the orders of the french president who during his address within the half hour said show compassion and solidarity, to show unity addressing his people there in france saying that france is strong and great and those are the words that will get people through this. whenever it ends and that's the real discouraging part tonight is that it's we've got hostages still being held, active gunfire between hostage takers and police and but it is good news we heard that they have deployed the military to go in and assist the french police there . >> anchor: absolutely of of they are taking extreme measures right now in paris and in france
6:17 pm
everyone. they are closing the borders hitting travel, state of emergency declared . >> reporter: u.s. cowper terror officials are telling nbc news paris attacks bearing the ruling out isis. information coming into us at this hour as the u.s. counter terror officials really try to look at this hallmarks of what was done here, look at the way this attack was taken and way that it was really acoordinated attack across many different appellate forms using many different devices using many different weapons and hit different locations and explosions and shootings and hostages so right now the u.s. cowper terror films are telling nbc news it looks like al-kaeda but they are not ruling outites us at this point so u.s. could b ber father or films waving this closely and there is stepped up security here in boston of course i'm seeing here in new york train stations in new york and the french consulate in new york as well so at this point
6:18 pm
a threat to the u.s. but at this point everything is being taken into consideration here as we try to stay safe in the u.s. as we watch these horrible pictures in really keep an eye on situation in paris tonight. >> anchor: it's hard to know for a police obviously right now and intelligence official who they are dealing with because we don't know yet if anybody has been captured. if they have captured any gunmen if this i have captured a bomber if they have identified any of these people. there has been no public statement of responsibility yet that makes this job even more difficult i think for investigators and negotiators who we are dealing with when you are negotiating with somebody and you know who they are, you might know what they want or how to talk to them but when you don't know who you are dealing with it makes the job all that more challenging and again to my knowledge nothing has been confirm or reported any person responsible and we know this is not just one person, this is
6:19 pm
sophisticated and coordinated by many people, that any of them have been identified so they don't know what they are dealing with or who they are dealing with at this point making it all the more difficult. that aside from attending to the people who have been wounded, have been injured tonight and you know they are dealing with so much. what is this video we're seeing right here? this looks new . >> anchor: is this, this is the evacuation? lot me ask our producer? are these people evalk waying from the concert hall i believe we had that video about to run a little while ago. that's where the has situation is happening right now. do we have any word if that is this video? this might be the too ed coming it in from paris they could be looping on their air. it is. that's confir. we will rye to figure out what that was. this is another image of a person being carried by fire fighters presumably it a triage
6:20 pm
area or an ambulance. this looks like either a loop shot or maybe they are carrying several victims. we saw during a live coverage people being moved by hand like this over to waiting medical personnel. either way, the situation t the fear of the unknown right now that i think we're all filling as we watch this. we don't know yet who is responsible. we don't know yet when this is going to be resolved. we don't note yet if they are going to be more attacks. because it has been so chaotic there. become over to ryan schulteis with more information . >> anchor: this is a bulletin. french police are confirming two suicide that tax, one bombing near the paris stadium during the soccer gail. we can go back to that video and show you what happened. we were, this is a vine video of the moment right now with that explosion happened. listen one more time. a moment that explosion right. there french police officials
6:21 pm
there and one bomb near the stadium. new moms coming out now. cnbc recording 40 dead, 60 hurt in these coordinate adtax across paris tonight. paris under siege top as they try to deal with a situation that's accepting by the hour. once get, we are confirming from french police that two suicide attacks and a abouting happened near the paris stadium. back to you guys. guys.. >> anchor: glad to have confirmation of something we reported earlier by n but now in indeed french police have confirmed suicide attacks and i read somewhere that this might be the first case of a suicide attack in paris first ever and the deputy mayor of paris saying earlier that he believes this is probably the worst and most severe terror its attack in the has story of that city. the way this is unfolding tonight . >> anchor: it's already been an incredibly difficult year for paris alreadip even if this is the worst attack in the city of
6:22 pm
course this is just 11 months after we saw what happened at the offices of charlie when do where a gunman broke into the sat miracle newspaper and shot people and shot cartoonists and shot editors and then there supermarket siege and that so we've heard that there have been all of these propositions to crack down, no word if those bills were actually passed just to increase security in paris. but it has been a difficult 2015 for par s and for the french and now to hear that a state of emergency has been declared and they are closing borders and limiting travel, this is, these are truly extreme measures in order to guarantee the safety of people and we're taking a look now. this is not live video. now it is live video of what's happening on the streets there. you see military personnel. you see officers, they appear to be running if i can make that out clearly enough and it seems like they are keeping an eye on
6:23 pm
what's happening. we've seen ambulances and sirens i heard sirens and just seen people on alert. it seals to be all hands on deck all of emergency personnel if possible deployed on the streets of paris. right now there is also a curfew curfew. we heard parisian police telling everyone if it is not absolutely necessary, stay off the streets of paris and now there is a curfew. so you imagine major met although poll tan city on a friday night just after midnight and there is now a curfew in place telling people to just stay inside. seek shelter if possible. >> anchor: these pictures look so familiar to us. it looks like they were in watertown looks like they were using city buses to bring in members of the military for this situation wherever this is and
6:24 pm
extreme my an tile, two suicide attacks one bombing could be official. she shootout a restaurant shooting the a mcdonald's and at a mall then the hostage, these are live pictures again and we are seeing some activity there. police officers behind that large truck. ryan, do you know where this im image is coming from? which scene? >> anchor: trying to gather that right now. i am guessing it may be around the theater where the active situation is going on. you can see crews are moving in and out very quickly and with their shields up like that so my guess is around there. just to kind of wrap this up before we head to "nightly news" we juan to say latest numbers 40 dead, 60 people hurt. last check 100 hostages at this theater. that's an ongoing situation right now. the borders of france are closed closed. it's a state of emergency. the mayor and police asking everyone in paris to stay inside inside. par cis under attack tonight and president obama says united states is standing with them.
6:25 pm
who is responsible? no public statement acknowledg acknowledging responsibility for these attacks and again to our knowledge right now because two of the attack were suicide meaning peel are dead and if they are identifiable are police able to figure out who they are and who they are with, associated with. that's unknown. we haven't heard that anybody has been captured or surrendered any of these hostage takers or gunmen so dealing with the un unknown is unnerving . absolutely. breaking news automatic gunfire heard from outside the parisian concert hall where the attackers are holding hostages. right now it's unclear if this shot we're taking is that gunfire right outside the concert hull but it looks like now that a police van is blocking the scene. we saw multiple people being carried out on veriers by personnel and it seems lick a flurry of activity just in the past two minutes or so. so it seems like it would make sense this would be outside the
6:26 pm
concert hall but that is where there is automatic gunfire being heard now. 100 has tans and it looks like all of these ambulances are carrying people who were inside, these police advance are carrying people away now . >> anchor: that information coming from the associated press right now. yeah, they are staging you can see they are pretty coordinated and moving wherever they are going right now. not knowing that city or that part of the city well it's hard to say where these are going or where they are but you can clearly see that they are arm and they are everywhere and try trying to get a handle on this a task which is pretty daunting at this point given the fact that 40 people are reported dead, 60 others injured and 100 being held right now. our partners at nbc news are covering this story extensively as we are and in a matter of seconds we'll be going to new york and nbc's lester holt and their crew spread out across the world.
