recently had a few session was a speech coach. he says despite his low poll numbers, he's still confident he will win the nomination. byron barnett, 7 news. a man is in court today in connection with a stabbing in mattapan. investigators say a man stabbed his mother with a knife and then ran off. police later arrested him in dorchester. that suspect is charged with assault with a deadly weapon. a centerville man is facing drug charges. officers say 16 pounds of marijuana were discovered inside a box shipped from california to centerville. according to police the marijuana is worth about $70,000. the post office believed the package was suspicious and contacted barnstable police. officer arrested 37-year-old sean white after he received the package tuesday. investigators say white had two similar packages both from california already in his truck. he's charged with possession and intent to

distribute. a man is arrested and charged with girlfriend. after he killed his girlfriend and unborn apartment. police don't have a murder. the victim's family says the relationship was strained from the beginning. >> one witness even described it as volatile. of course we didn't have the tell-tale signs you usually see in these cases where restraining orders are in effect or multiple calls, none of those, if you call them red flags were there in this particular case. >> that suspect is being held without bail. it's unclear if the victim's baby was smith's. police in southern california are saying the police officer who was shot to death wednesday night was apparently targeted. the officer was in the driver's seat of his personal vehicle when two gunmen opened fire. investigators have not said if he was targeted for personal reasons or

officer. no arrests have been made at this time. protestors get violent in minnesota. police try to defuse the crowd with pepper spray. they are demanding justice for jamar clark. he was shot by police and died on tuesday. protestors are continuing an effort to create a no police zone. >> they lost their right of they executed jamar clark in the middle of the street. >> it's out of control right now. >> demonstrators are demanding police release the video of clark's arrest. they say they will continue to exercise their right to protest and organizers hope everyone does it peacefully. checking news from across the country now. a man in fresno, california is facing charges for packing serious heat. officers raided two homes of that 59-year-old man finding hundreds of guns, rifles

and assault weapons. the man used to be a gun dealer before his license was revoked last year. people in one mississippi city are on notice to pull up their pants. an advertising campaign asking people to stop wearing those sagging pants. police say there's currently a law in the works to help enforce this policy. the police chief says right now someone with sagging pants could be arrested for indecent exposure. a firefighter is being praised for saving a three week old boy. he ran into that home to save the baby in the flames. >> i wound up actually bumping into the crib and i heard very faint noises, baby was making very faint noises and i reached in, i felt the baby, and i just grabbed him and took off.

still being treated at a local medical center and is expected to be okay. a boy is dropped off at school by a couple of carjackers in virginia. police say the thief stole a car with the eight-year-old still inside. they dropped the boy after at school before abandoning the car several miles away. caught on camera, a runaway bus destroying everything in its path in san francisco. this is a tour bus, a double decker eventually crashed into an apple store under construction. >> officials say 20 people were hurt in the crash, three are in critical condition. you can see the extensive damage that that bus caused. 7 news now turning to a young new mexico student feeling left out and angry. she was told she couldn't goat on a class field trip because she has diabetes. as her overall grade could be effected for missing this trip. >> she was diagnosed at 18 months.

reporter: a new mexico mom is furious after being banned from a field trip because she has diabetes. she calls her condition a struggle but she works to overcome every day, especially in school. >> i like to go to school and i don't like to miss. reporter: two weeks ago she missed what all of her high school classmates were doing, going on a science field trip to a nearby park to check out the beaver dams. >> she should have every child. she shouldn't be treated any differently because of diabetes. >> this is the letter the school gave her. there are concerns about poor cell signal if she has an episode. >> it makes me mad. it's not the first time. reporter: she had to stay home but now the school is giving her an unexcused absence. >> if it's going to be part of my grade, how am i going to make up the grade. it just puts more stress on me.

an ohio woman slammed by a stranger while waiting in line at walmart. the woman says she was next in line but the shopper who attacked her, she disagreed. the police are searching for the shopper who left the woman bruised and beaten. >> she grabbed me and she was like wailing on me. she slammed me hard.

so for as much as we've been talking about this weather system, rain coming in, here it comes and not a lot to show for it. we're watching this bag of rain here which all by itself doesn't look all that impressive still. light showers now through stoneham and woburn and pushing through wakefield and going up into andover and reading. compare that to the darking gleans you're seeing in new york, back into philadelphia. that's the area we're watching ler tonight mass. it becomes the downpours that we'll be watching through the night and it may, you know, perhaps wake you up because when the rain comes down, it will be heavy for one, and also it will come with a lot of wind. this is also like a line of thunderstorms without the thunder. that chance is very remote in this band of rain. nonetheless, it gets your attention 3:00, 4:00 in the morning, even 6:00 in the morning. if you're commuting between 5:00 and 6:00,

later commuters should be fine as we have a rapid clearing and rapid ramp down in the rain between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., keep that in mind. it's really the height of the storm, if we can call it that. it's really not, it's just a front. between 11:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. how much at stake here? generally an inch or less. in many cases we might be less because we're talking about downpours here and be selective. some towns pick up close quarter possible and that wind as it comes in out of the southeast feeding those downpours just shuts down completely. you can see the coloring here and the numbers and you go back to the wind of 20 or 30 miles an hour on the backside of that front. even later in the day on friday they go right now even more. our current reading's in the 50s but we're waiting for the warmth to come in from connecticut. i think the high temperatures of the day
