parenthood gunman in custody. being taken away. this resulted in death. university police officer and 2 others lost their lives. right now, detectives are interrogating the suspect to figure out his motive, among other things. >> tim is at the breaking news desk. >> the gunman killed 3 and shot several more and after an all day standoff, he surrendered peacefully. >>reporter: lone gunman opened fire at a planned parenthood in colorado. >> bullet crashed over my head and hit the stop sign. by the time i got to my truck and waited there, i heard 20. reporter: witnesses say the paeurpt/ paeurpthood and continued to fire. 9 people, including 5 oefrss were injured and taken to hospitals. 3 people,

>> the death of the officer on the scene is from the university of colorado, colorado springs police department. reporter: scared witnesses inside called loved ones. >> inside, she called me and she was telling me there was a shooting. i heard the shooting and she couldn't too much because she was afraid. >>reporter: planned parenthood facility is near a strip mall. police went to nearby business p/s, telling them to stay inside. >> they are the building where we are, telling us to heidi in the back room where there is for window says so we don't get caught in the fire. reporter: the gunman continued to fire at officers as others trapped inside were evacuated. officers did tpolt/ immediately rush the building because they thought the gunman had explosives there. after 6

wires stretching from sidewalk to sidewalk. susan has been with the crews all night. she's live in braintree with how much longer the workers will be there. >>reporter: they are set to be here throughout the night. they have been working trying to restore power to those who don't have. you can see the old utility pole broken up. across the street, you can see crews are put up all poles and now, they are trying to rewire them and get the transformers in. working to get everybody online. >> terrifying as you are in it. the girls are in the back seat screaming. they don't understand it. reporter: one minute, chris is driveing with his 2 daughters. next, a spike puncturing his side mirrors. >> noticed at least 3 poles had come down. one vehicle trapped

in between the 2 with transformers lowing out. reporter: court reporter: court taylor, who!woe was working the drive-thru saw it all. reporter: this utility pole snapped and stretched across the street. >> one came down and pulled the other 2 down. >> between poles and the old lady at one point, she got out of her car while the live wires were sparking. a bunch of us in the store were yelling at her to get away from the car. reporter: the clean up took hours, roughly 30 gallons of oil had to be removed. poles had to be untangled from the lines. for lines. for familys in brain lines. for familys in braintree say after seeing this intense scene, they are grateful the only major concern was inconvenience.
