and pats fans. rob gronkowski will likely be back on the field soon. this is news we would love to hear. the tight send unlikely to his more than a week of action. gronk may even be good to go for the big game next sunday. gronk injured his knee on a play during the first quarter of last night's game in denver. he was carted off the field, taken for x-rays. again, n.f.l. network is reporting that gronk could make a return as soon as this sunday's game. patriots will take on the philadelphia eagles at 4:25 over at gillette. again, let's keep our fingers crossed. kris anderson, 7 news. >> christa: kris, thank you. another hopeful sign. gronk was seen walking out on his own, without the help of a brace or crutches. his injury clearly has everybody concerned. >> jadiann: yeah. the same knee he hurt a couple of years ago. in fact, nicole oliverio getting reaction from

yes. ff they are crazy firearms to be hunting with. that is what he had. he was going to survive in the woods. that's it. >> reporter: the man is facing assault and battery and kidnapping charges out of worcester. now he has added more charges to that list. he is held without bail right now. he is being held in court until a dangerous hearing... dangerousness hearing. >> jadiann: hunting is being permitted at the blue hills reservation. nearly 200 hunters have permission to hunt for four days in certain parts of the reservation. jonathan hall live for us in milton with more on what's being called a population problem. jon? >> reporter: this is a popular cut-through from route 28 to braintree. you see the road is closed right now. up there there are hunters who are looking for these deer. there is also a scenic overlook on the boston skyline. one hunter said he killed one deer already and is hoping for

more. than a hundred years, dozens of hunters are walking the woods with shotguns. looking for deer in the blue hills. >> they were each given one zone to be in out of five. there is five different managed zones. approximately, 3,000 acres. out of the 7,000 acres of the reservation. it is a controlled hunt approved by state agencies and local communities to cut down on overpopulation of deer. after a 201 study by the state division of fisheries and wildlife. >> they found that there was an average of 85 deer per square mile. put that in perspective. a healthy herd covers around 6-14 deer. >> reporter: a total of 89 hunters are out today and tomorrow. too many deer are eating up vegetation in the forest which can lead to wildfires and harm other animals. >> we are going to kill everything that is a problem for us? i don't think that is a good solution.

on the testimony today. >> reporter: yeah. that friend took the stand this morning. on the stand right now, the medical examiner. the medical examiner telling the jury that colleen ritzer was stabbed and strangled. calling it a painful death. the m.e. is the last witness the prosecution is going to call before resting its case. then the defense will return to call its witnesses. the medical examiner says colleen ritzer was stabbed and slashed repeatedly. >> to the neck area, there were 12 stab wounds. and four incised wounds. pressure was applied to the neck. report tt testimony was graphic. jurors shown ritzer's purple sweater. the same sweater they saw in the surveillance video as colleen chatted it up with her friend and fellow math teacher. the two women dressed in matching outfits for the school's spirit day.

her friend's voice quivering as she remembered their last conversation. >> just regular everyday things that we would talk about. >> reporter: she says colleen was at ease and smiling in the minutes before her death. their conversation even included a casual reference to then 14-year-old philip chism who stayed in ritzer's math class after school got out. >> what did colleen say to you just about why the boy was in her classroom? >> she said "i don't know why he is here." >> reporter: that statement is different from previous testimony the jury heard that indicated colleen had asked philip chism to stay after school. the prosecution trying to prove premeditation. again, the prosecution will wrap its case up today and then tomorrow, the defense attorneys will get to call witnesses as they try to put on their case of not guilty by reason of insanity. live in salem, 7 news.

>> jadiann: happening today: the man accused of shooting 12 people and killing three of them inside a planned parenthood in colorado is set to appear before a judge today. one of those killed, officer garrett swasey, a melrose native. friends and family here in the bay state are remembering swasey and trying to understand why all of this happened. kris anderson live in the control room with more on a possible motive. kris? >> reporter: a lot of heartbreak, as you can imagine. two communities in mourning for this police officer who was killed in friday's shooting rampage. now the wife of the melrose native is thanking everyone for their support as we learn more today about why this happened. when he was finally arrested after a five-hour standoff, robert dear ranted about president obama, politics, and abortion saying "no more baby parts." officials haven't declared a motive for the shooting. dear killed three people and wounded nine more. among those killed, garrett swasey, a melrose native, a

in his hometown, they are mourning the loss of the husband and father of two. faith and eli jachlt. >> elijah's birthday is he turns 11. so i know that this is going to be hard for him every year, happened. >> we are speechless. his hometown community will do whatever it takes to support his family. >> reporter: swasey's wife says, "while the nation now knows garrett as a hero who gave his life for others, he was also a devoted husband of 17 years and a wonderful father to his two children. we will cherish his memory, especially those times he spent tossing the football to his son and snuggling with his daughter on the couch." as for the 57-year-old suspect, he is being described as reclusive, rarely making eye contact, or small talk with people in the town of around 600. >> he always looked a little scroungey. a little roughed-up and stuff. pretty much everybody does out here. >> not real personable.

a quiet... to his own. >> reporter: officials may decide to pursue federal charges against dear in addition to those state homicide charges he is now facing. that is the latest live here in the control room, kris anderson, 7 news. >> christa: now from overseas: cnn is reporting french officials believe one of the paris attackers... paris suspects is in syria. salah abdeslam apparently ditched his suicide vest and escaped to belgium the day after the massacre. cnn says investigators are working under the assumption that he made his way back into syria. >> jadiann: president obama and secretary of state john kerry are in france right now for the united nations global climate conference. they were met by french president francois hollande and other leaders this morning. more than one hundred world leaders will discuss a historic deal to try and steer the global economy away from fossil fuels.

police say the 57-year-old robert dear was rambling about president obama and abortion when he was arrested. he could wind up facing federal charges as well. among the victims, a police officer who was from melrose. officer garrett swasey was responding to the scene when he was shot and kill. police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting. it was a close call for two women and several children after they were nearly hit by an s.u.v. out in worcester. the driver of the s.u.v. the street. video shows a large truck hitting the s.u.v. and sending them into their path. luckily, they were able to get out of the way in time. >> grabbed them by... looks like the collar. brought them back on to the sidewalk. and the other cars... it was out of control. you think you have the green light to cross. you have to pay attention.

perfect example right here. >> christa: no word if the driver will be cited. >> jadiann: police in methuen searching for a robber on the run. the suspect stormed into the convenience store on saturday. and headed right for the clerk behind the counter. police say he demanded money and threatened to stab the man but didn't show a weapon. he then grabbed the cash box from under the counter and runs off. more news today. residents in sharon coming together to remember ezra schwartz. the 18-year-old was killed in an attack in israel earlier this month. the teenager was laid to rest last week. a federal judge is set to hear arguments for a new trial for boston marathon bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev. the hearing is scheduled for tomorrow. but tsarnaev isn't expected to attend. tsarnaev's defense team says the trial shouldn't have been held in boston because a local jury couldn't be objective. tsarnaev was convicted and sentenced to death earlier this year for his role in the
