tv 7 News at Noon NBC December 2, 2015 12:00pm-1:00pm EST
12:00 pm
>> this is 7 news at noon. >> now, at noon, quarterback tom brady ready to take the podium. what you're looking at is a live picture from gillette stadium, as we stand by for that news conference. and here is number 12 stepping up to the podium right now. getting ready to take on the philadelphia eagles sunday in foxboro after the broncos delivered the first loss this past weekend. let's listen in. >> so much to process.
12:01 pm
that you take the health of these guys, how hard is that responsibility? >> yes, because you hate to see see -- in a vulnerable position. so it gets tough, you know, and you always try to gauge how close a defender is and his ability to enclose his on the ball and so forth. but, yeah, it's a real hard thing for a quarterback. >> i'm not insinuating anything about injuries or the results, just any your position with that in mind, oh, do i watch the to do this? would you allow that to enter? >> yeah, i mean, absolutely.
12:02 pm
defender is in certain positions where you can't throw your guy -- i mean, you never want to throw him to, you know, certain zone where a guy is just eyeing you and lining your receiver up and then, you know, it's a big below up. a lot of times it's outbreaking routes anally it's a corner that's sitting outside and they come, you know, from the outside in. receiver. so you never really want to do that. we talk about that all of the time. sport. guys are going to get hit. you hate to see, you know, one of your guys take one of your hits. i do think they should change some of those rules with those i don't think there's anything different than a chop block. i mean, everyone else has their legs protected in the nfl. protected.
12:03 pm
defenseless receiver shouldn't get his legs protected either so maybe that's something they look like in on season. >> the fishyiting you were angry about sunday night, saying you didn't think you weren't getting the calls like you -- some were speculating that you may not have the officials ears like you had in the past years or recent history. what do you think? >> um, you got a great voice, man, it's pretty amazing [laughing]. >> put into words, though, tom. >> yeah, we're just going to try to do our job. let them do the oh officiating. coach talks to those guys all the time. and he fills us in on the conversations he has so we know where we are out there. >> you talk to them too. and you were pretty angry about
12:04 pm
>> that was only a three hour difference between after the game and when i talked on the radio the next morning. so it was probably the level of emotion that i was going through after the game. so -- i've calmed down a little bit. and you know, we've moved on from that game because we've -- you know, we're facing a great opponent this week in the eagles. and we're going to have to be at our best. >> bounce back after loss of -- over the course of your career, this team has lost back to, bah games. why is that, and how badly do you want to get back on the field? >> i think we all want to get back out there because it's been a long time since we lost a meaningful game. and it just -- it just sucks. i'm glad we're not in a position where -- it is always hard to inwith, especially on the road, going against good teams and you got to play really well.
12:05 pm
to -- as fast as you can, turn the page and move on. so we've got to move on with some obviously different challenges, personnel related, whether that's scheme related, every week presents different challenges, i think you as a player, you have to start every week with a fresh slate and try to go out and give -- you really put everything into it 100 percent of your energy and emotion. and you go out and try to do it again. >> tom, with so much offensive production missing from your line up, do you have to adjust your thinking about what you could trip to do versus what is reasonable to do? >> i think, you know, that's a lot what the coaches try to do on monday and tuesdays is try to figure out scheme wise how we're going to move the ball down the field. so you're right, it does take on a little bit of a different approach when certain guys are missing.
12:06 pm
pretty natural for you to do as an offense because different guys have different skill sets. when a certain player is in there, you may do a rule, you know, something really well, then when he goes out, another guy who goes in the position might do something else well, and you try to do those things. so i think it's just an cocerted -- versus the things that they're not good at. it's obviously a big challenge. it's not easy to do over the course of 16 weeks. that's why every week changes, availability of players exchange and schemes change. challenging. >> the loss on sunday to the broncos, it was pretty rare, it's not too often that you guys don't close out. we like that. just curious how much is execution in the fourth quarter, and concentration, is that going to be a little extra focus? i think those are plans for 60 minutes against opponents you
12:07 pm
it's this week, you can't just play 45 good minutes, or 30 good minutes, some weeks you get away with it and i say you get lucky. most of the time you have to play with concentration, with all of the energy and focus all the way until the game ends. if you don't, you know, one play changes games. and, you know, that was just one of those situations last week where we didn't play as well as we would've liked to for 60 minutes and we get an opportunity this he can would to do that. it's a good team, got a lot of good guys coming back. they have their own challenges that they present to us and we're going to do a good job. >> how much are you happy having a guy like that back, especially with all of the injuries on the offense. >> that would be great. that would be great to see how that goes throughout the week. danny always tells me that, he's always good.
12:08 pm
warrior, man. >> information sharing, that even the patriots changed, the patriots way, we hear from people tweeting, rob tweeted about his injury, which you wouldn't have thought you had in the past years and the patriots themselves putting out a statement. do you think between twitter and brand new world is something different here in foxboro? >> foxboro? >> do you feel more comfortable sharing information? >> definitely not. no, things always evolve and change. naturally as a person, you evolve over time, based on life experiences that you have hopefully we all evolve and change in different ways based on your own experiences, to maybe there's a built of change in foxboro. who knows. >> were you surprised to see gronk tweeting his own video about his situation? >> i didn't pay attention to it. i was pretty busy yesterday getting caught up on all of the eagle stuff. thank you.
12:09 pm
taking questions on a variety of topics, talking about basically a team just battered about injuries, about receivers, talking, taking questions, about protecting, receivers, keep in mind three high profile ones out with injuries right now, danny amendola, julia edelman, the latest, rob gronkowski, also taking questions about oh officiating and about rob gronkowski himself being open about tweeting his injuries last night. as for gronk, he is recovering from that injury that happened during the game during sunday's loss to the broncos. we also know that coach bill licheck himself took the podium earlier. nicole was there when he talked. and nicole, tell us what he had to say. >> as you can imaginely. bill lichick didn't have much to say, when asked why they
12:10 pm
gronkowski's injury, bill chick, said, he did it for us, trying to be accommodating. >> what's up, patriots nation, it's rob here. >> two days after being injured, rob gronk skowski, posted a video online, promising he'll soon. >> i'm week to week, back on out on the field, as soon as possible. when i'm 100 percent, feeling good, cleared by all of the doctors and the team, that's when i'll be back. >> there were reports that he only will miss one to two weeks. the patriots are he leased a statement, suffered a bone bruise, sprain of his right knee and there's no time table for his readiness to returnly, which will be determined in the days or hours prior to that appropriate game. any timetable reported prior to that final determination would be speculative. >> i'm thankful it's not serious. i love playing the game of football, whenever it's taken
12:11 pm
feeling that you appreciate the game so much. >> gronkowski also made noise on twitter, when he agreed with boston sports writers that he's being unfairly targeted for a offensive pass interference. but he ended his message to fans on a positive note. >> it's just be working hard and trying to get 100 percent as soon as possible. i can promise you that. i'll be definitely going hard in the rehab. so -- >> reporter: so of course fans were hoping that gronk would be back sooner rather than later. but now they heard from gronk himself and don't have to listen speculation. ollivaro. >> breaking news out of worcester, where police are searching for systems after a deadly stabbing, a woman found on the side of the road. and she had several stab wound. let's head out to 7's jonathan
