said this isn't necessarily surprising, because even some lesions we identify as benign actually do increase your cancer rate. >> when you do the test, and they say it's benign, however, do they say however this one might lead to x, y, and z? >> 100%. and breast cancer is in the news all the time. dcis is considered a cancerous lesion. we talk about this all the time. because sending a woman home saying this is a benign lesion, come back in a year, is not necessarily appropriate. people who treat women with breast cancer know that these do show a higher risk of cancer and need to be screened more often. come back in six months. more screening, more ultrasound the. another point is this idea of relative risk versus absolute risk. if you leave the headline, they'll say your relative risk

false positive. you read that and go oh, my god, my risk for cancer is 76% higher. what you need is an absolute risk. which means it was only moderately elevated. the take home is that even though it does increase your risk for cancer, a false positive, the risk is still small. >> if someone goes in, gets a false positive, what should i say to the doctor. >> if it's a false positive, you say, okay, doc, should i get screened in six months? should i get screened in three months? you have to take this in context, too, as who you are as a woman. if you've had abnormal biopsies in the past, if you have very dense bris easts, a young age, and if you have a family history of cancer, genetic mutations, you
