>> jadiann: breaking news at noon. new information about what might have caused dozens of local college kids to get sick after eating at chipotle. at least 28 boston college students became ill after eating at the restaurant at cleveland circle. f >> kris: now inspectional services found health violations inside of that restaurant. dan hausle is live from boston. dan, what is the latest you are hearing? >> reporter: well, chipotle this afternoon saying it is more likely what got those students sick at their cleveland circle sick restaurant is appearing to be

coli. as city inspectors say they found three violations at the restaurant. and chipotle says city health officials agree with them that the pattern among the sickened students looks more like norovirus than e. coli which sickened 50 customers in nine states. norovirus is spread from contaminated people or surfaces. among the violations city inspectors say they found at chipotle was hot steak and chicken founds if not at the required temperature. and employee allowed to work sick last thursday even though they shouldn't have been there. and a manager not doing his or her job preventing spread of illness. city inspectors couldn't say whether any of these violations led to the sickness. >> we have statutory requirements that every restaurant is required to attain. >> are any of these critical violations? >> yes, they are. the food temperature ones is critical.

employee is critical. and then you know, the temporary suspension of the permit because of the report. they are critical violations. >> reporter: it is not in your purview to say whether these >> no. not at this time. >> reporter: and the clean-up continues at that cleveland circle restaurant. it will have to be cleaned up and approved by a number of city services before it can reopen. meanwhile, inspectors here say they are leafleting the neighborhood and other restaurants in the area, concerned as much about a spread to other restaurants than worrying about other chipotle locations in the boston area. we are live at inspectional services in boston, dan hausle, 7 news. >> reporter: more breaking news this noon for you. the defense resting in the philip chism murder trial in salem. they will not call the teenager's mother to the stand in this case. prosecutors call their final witness rebuttal right now.

the jury is expected to get the case by the end of the week. victoria warren live for us in salem with the very latest. vicky? >> reporter: all that could be in question right now. because of a technical issue the judge is dealing with right now. very complex issue regarding one of the mental tests given to philip chism. there is some concern that if the details of that test became public, it could jeopardize the test used for future mental health patients. the judge is actually considering closing the courtroom to the public. he hasn't ruled on this yet. earlier in the day, the prosecution started calling its rebuttal witnesses. building its case. saying that philip chism is faking his mental illness. >> it's very easy to feign cognitive disability to feign mental illness. it is an easy thing to do. >> reporter: a neuropsychologist saying her tests prove what the prosecution has said all along

philip chism, that he was making up symptoms of mental illness like hearing voices in his head to make it look like he was in the throes of psychosis. he is accused of raping and murdering his math teacher his attorney rested their case insanity. prosecutors then called rebuttal witnesses. first up, a doctor who evaluated chism's responses to ink blots, saying at times, he lives in a fantasy world. >> he does seem to understand the difference between reality and fantasy. and he didn't show any signs of getting lost in a fantasy world. >> reporter: dr. kelly casey says when she evaluated chism, she found he was emotionally constricted, under stress and showing signs of anxiety and depression. it was a few weeks before the start of his murder trial. she also said he was open, cooperative, and polite and didn't appear disorganized or by. though she did say he is prone to making mistakes and interpreting things in his life.

exclusively revealed that state inspectors had found the shelter not suitable for animals just days before a fire killed 12 dogs and 30 cats last month. 7 news obtained inspection reports spanning the last two years. they document several unannounced visits by inspectors. describing the facility as crowded, with inhumane conditions. specifically, noting that dogs in kennels were too small for them to turn around. and cats in cages in the same room with dogs. perhaps most notable: this report dated july, 2014. inspectors called the conditions at the shelter a fire hazard. the shelter manager tells news there were no official complaints made against the facility. >> this is upsetting. i haven't gone through any of this. i was told theelz were unofficial visits when they were here.
