>> jadiann: breaking news at noon. new information about what might have caused dozens of local college kids to get sick after eating at chipotle. at least 28 boston college students became ill after eating at the restaurant at cleveland circle. f >> kris: now inspectional services found health violations inside of that restaurant. dan hausle is live from boston. dan, what is the latest you are hearing? >> reporter: well, chipotle this afternoon saying it is more likely what got those students sick at their cleveland circle sick restaurant is appearing to be

coli. as city inspectors say they found three violations at the restaurant. and chipotle says city health officials agree with them that the pattern among the sickened students looks more like norovirus than e. coli which sickened 50 customers in nine states. norovirus is spread from contaminated people or surfaces. among the violations city inspectors say they found at chipotle was hot steak and chicken founds if not at the required temperature. and employee allowed to work sick last thursday even though they shouldn't have been there. and a manager not doing his or her job preventing spread of illness. city inspectors couldn't say whether any of these violations led to the sickness. >> we have statutory requirements that every restaurant is required to attain. >> are any of these critical violations? >> yes, they are. the food temperature ones is critical.

employee is critical. and then you know, the temporary suspension of the permit because of the report. they are critical violations. >> reporter: it is not in your purview to say whether these >> no. not at this time. >> reporter: and the clean-up continues at that cleveland circle restaurant. it will have to be cleaned up and approved by a number of city services before it can reopen. meanwhile, inspectors here say they are leafleting the neighborhood and other restaurants in the area, concerned as much about a spread to other restaurants than worrying about other chipotle locations in the boston area. we are live at inspectional services in boston, dan hausle, 7 news. >> reporter: more breaking news this noon for you. the defense resting in the philip chism murder trial in salem. they will not call the teenager's mother to the stand in this case. prosecutors call their final witness rebuttal right now.

the jury is expected to get the case by the end of the week. victoria warren live for us in salem with the very latest. vicky? >> reporter: all that could be in question right now. because of a technical issue the judge is dealing with right now. very complex issue regarding one of the mental tests given to philip chism. there is some concern that if the details of that test became public, it could jeopardize the test used for future mental health patients. the judge is actually considering closing the courtroom to the public. he hasn't ruled on this yet. earlier in the day, the prosecution started calling its rebuttal witnesses. building its case. saying that philip chism is faking his mental illness. >> it's very easy to feign cognitive disability to feign mental illness. it is an easy thing to do. >> reporter: a neuropsychologist saying her tests prove what the prosecution has said all along

philip chism, that he was making up symptoms of mental illness like hearing voices in his head to make it look like he was in the throes of psychosis. he is accused of raping and murdering his math teacher his attorney rested their case insanity. prosecutors then called rebuttal witnesses. first up, a doctor who evaluated chism's responses to ink blots, saying at times, he lives in a fantasy world. >> he does seem to understand the difference between reality and fantasy. and he didn't show any signs of getting lost in a fantasy world. >> reporter: dr. kelly casey says when she evaluated chism, she found he was emotionally constricted, under stress and showing signs of anxiety and depression. it was a few weeks before the start of his murder trial. she also said he was open, cooperative, and polite and didn't appear disorganized or by. though she did say he is prone to making mistakes and interpreting things in his life.

often than other 16-year-olds. but it did not rise to the level of psychosis or delusional thinking. >> reporter: just in the last minute, the judge saying he will not be closing the courtroom to the public. but he is still trying to figure out how they move forward with this very sensitive information that the defense wants entered into evidence. so they are still conferring about that this afternoon. the original timeline was for closing arguments to happen this week and the jury to get the case before the end of the week. of course, whatever happens today may possibly clay that. ... delay that. victoria warren, 7 news. >> jadiann: new at noon, a scorched house in lynn is torn down this afternoon. sky 7 over the scene for you. fire tore through the house on friday, killing four people inside. investigators say as many as 19 people lived in the home and three... in three different apartments. all of the victims lived on the second floor.

names. local and state officials are still investigating how the fire started. detectives are asking anyone with information to please come forward. >> kris: now we turn our attention to the weather. here is a live look outside. it won't be quite as warm today. j.r., we are in december. we have been spoiled. >> jeremy: i know. such a shocker. plymouth, 45. bedford and fitchburg and there is wind out there as well. a chilly, raw northerly wind. anywhere between 5-15 miles per hour. that is the case through the afternoon. and so that wind making it feel even colder. i feels like the lower 30's out there. feels like 34 in the city. bedford feels like 33. worcester feels like 32. we have a lot of clouds. a couple of sprinkles and mist here and there around the metro. from a storm system that's well offshore. but it has been grazing the south coast as well as the cape this morning. that will happen for a couple more hours this afternoon. essentially, all the action stays to the south. you see right here on the

route six and pockets of drizzle mist around the metro. nothing significant. even on the cape, light amounts of rain. this winds down late this afternoon. we will talk more about the forecast coming up. >> jadiann: thank you, j.r.. the norfolk district attorney investigating a burned body in milton. found under a bridge near blue hill avenue. the state fire marshal is investigating also. a 25-year-old woman facing murder charges after a stabbing in dorchester. a man in his 20's died on nightingale street early this morning. the man was stabbed in the chest. >> kris: in paxton now, disturbing details about a shelter tragedy. there are now questions about whether those cats and dogs should have even been in that facility in the first place. 7 news uncovered some past problems with this animal shelter. >> i'm calling for us to temporarily suspend the license... >> reporter: a vote monday

exclusively revealed that state inspectors had found the shelter not suitable for animals just days before a fire killed 12 dogs and 30 cats last month. 7 news obtained inspection reports spanning the last two years. they document several unannounced visits by inspectors. describing the facility as crowded, with inhumane conditions. specifically, noting that dogs in kennels were too small for them to turn around. and cats in cages in the same room with dogs. perhaps most notable: this report dated july, 2014. inspectors called the conditions at the shelter a fire hazard. the shelter manager tells news there were no official complaints made against the facility. >> this is upsetting. i haven't gone through any of this. i was told theelz were unofficial visits when they were here.

rodham clinton calls his comments reprehensible, divisive and prejudiced as well. jonathan hall, 7 news. >> kris: we are learning new terror attack. the f.b.i. now says that the couple was radicalized for a while. we are also getting a new look at the couple together. officials say tashfeen malik and syed farook had methodically prepared for this attack. they often practiced at a shooting range, in fact. their most recent practice session was days before last week's deadly shooting took place. in a chilling new twist, officials have also disclosed that farook's coworkers at the county health department actually underwent active shooter training in the exact same conference room where farook and his wife opened fire, killing 14 people and injuring 21 others. it is still not clear whether farook himself actually attended that same session with his coworkers. we also have new details on the explosives that were found inside of the couple's home. officials say 19 pipes were found.

with a few sprinkles around. you know, we are in a mid pattern. even within a mild pattern, you can run into a chilly day. that is what's happening at this time. temps yesterday at this time, running 10-15 degrees cooler than where we were. yesterday was so warm. into the 50's. we won't do that today. barely in the low 40's. the city at 41 right now. cape and the islands, in the 40's. wind is an issue as well. northeast. a cold raw feel. with those wind speeds anywhere between 5-15 miles per hour. creating windchills into the low 30's. boston feels like 34. worcester feels like 32. right on the edge of a storm right here. you can see it to the south of new england. most of the rain, we have had some on and off rain this morning down along the south coast and buzzards bay and the cape. metro-boston, we have been in and out of the sprinkles and spritzes and pockets of mist. no significant weather. even on the cape, the most rain i could find was

furry friend needed to go for a walk. but when they left the problem. >> on the way down the common stairway, i started smelling natural gas or something. it got worse and worse and worse. as we went down the stairs. >> kris: john and izzy ran back upstairs to wake up his wife and called 9 11. the firefighters couldn't find the gas leak. >> they were unscrewing the electrical panel for the building. and when they were doing that, it sparked. and they were pretty upset about that because they could have been killed. >> kris: they discovered a dangerous electrical issue that could have caused the building to catch fire. >> we are pretty happy that she sensed that. that woke us up to the whole thing. >> kris: howling good job there. john and his wife are going to go out and buy izzy some extra special treats as a reward for

>> kris: we have a breaking news update we want to bring you. boston college's director of health services issuing an as many as 80 boston college students may have become sick. apparently, after eating at a nearby chipotle restaurant. two different things. e. coli and the noro-virus. they are being tested for those things after they got sick after apparently eating at that chipotle restaurant. the one on cleveland circle. they are expecting to have those test results back in the next two days. then they should have a clear idea about what actually is making them sick. we heard earlier, chipotle suspects it was indeed the norovirus and not the e. coli situation that we have seen plaguing that restaurant in other states across the country. >> jadiann: that is up from a lot of students who were sick. that is almost tripled now. that number. we will see what happens there. all right. moving on. many of us have a holiday tradition of sending out

>> jadiann: breaking news. boston college now saying as many as 80 students have gotten sick after eating at a local chipotle restaurant. the students were ill after eating at that restaurant on cleveland circle. >> kris: now inspectional service agents are finding health violations inside the restaurant. dan has liz live from boston with the very latest. dan, we are seeing these numbers increase now. >> reporter: yeah. a lot of developments this morning. that biggest one in the last half hour. boston college reporting a lot more students now sick. the number up to 80 from the original 30 who got sick. most of those, their basketball team members who got sick after eating at the chipotle restaurant at cleveland circle. now they say all 80 students are being tested for the two possibilities they are looking at. the noro-virus and e. coli. those tests being done on many of the customers who ate at the chipotle restaurant. this coming as chipotle says

telling them and agreeing with them that the pattern does look more like the noro-virus than e. coli. e. coli which was a problem with the chipotle restaurants around the country, in nine states. more than 50 people were sick. it looks more like noro-virus which would be a localized problem. speaking of localized problems, we are now hearing this morning from the city health inspectors, they found three violations at the cleveland circle restaurant. those violations include finding hot steak and chicken not at the required temperature. and an employee was allowed to work even though that employee was sick according to health inspectors. the manager did not do his or her job preventing the spread of illness. at the same type, the inspectors can't say whether this had anything to do with the illness. >> i know that we have statutory requirements. that every restaurant is required to attain. >> reporter: are any of these critical violations? >> yes, they are.
