remembered. to the verdict in a teacher's murder. >> she was murdered two years ago. tonight colleen ritzer killer brought to justice phillip chisholm 14 years when he was arrested could face the rest of his life in prison. it took the jury nine hours to find chisholm guilty of first degree murder. rape and armed robbery he was found not guilties on second rape charge. we have night team coverage of guilty verdict chisholm's possible sentence and the a motional reaction from colleen ritzer's family. let's get started with night team kimberly bookman in salem where verdict came down early this evening. >> yeah, kim you know this was a case. in fact judge said these jurors may never be the same. they had to listen to more than 50 witnesses, they looked at 140 pieces of evidence and 4 o'clock this afternoon they said they had reached a verdict. >> the defendant phillip chisholm is guilty. nine hours after jurors got the

teenager phillip chisholm guilty first degree murder in death of his mile teachermoment belong to colleen ritzer and her family. we can't bring her back, but we can provide some sense of justice for her family. ritzer's mother sat in front row and a cried. chisholm's mother was across the aisle doubled over. but the 16-year-old just looked forward showing no emotion at all. >> guilty. the jury said teen was also guilty of armed robbery. and one count of rape but not guilty on another. chisholm was 14 when he stabbed and raped ritzer in high school bathroom and used a recycling bin to move her body into the woods. prosecutors used school surveillance video of some of these actions to prove its case. >> no family should have to go through the horrific, horrific life that they had to go through with the murder of her daughter. defense admitted teen committed crime unsuccessfully argue he was mentally ill at the time. his mother left court with

session tomorrow after a major scare today. schools in both los angeles and new york receiving similar terror threats. but dealing with them in very different ways. night team's ryan schulteis joins us with different responses and how investigators learned about these threats. >> kim we're learning tonight both of those threats were hoaxes according to officials. we're also hearing from boston officials about an internet problem this morning. they say that was not connected at all to those threats. >> early this morning the nation second largest school district was shut down. los angeles public schools say they got a credible threat. they say it wasn't no school due to a bomb threat. so it's very scary. >> and investigators say the threat came through email a person claiming to be high school senior ready with an army to attack schools with guns and bombs. >> los angeles is j u.s. about 65 miles from san bernardino where 14 people were gunned down in terror attack less than two weeks ago.

the neighboring san bernardino, i think what has happened in the nation. i think what happened internationally. i as superintendent am not going to take the chance with life of a student. police chief stood by superintendent in public, privately law enforcement officials say they advised against closing the schools. saying it was premature and bad move. each school was swept. district is huge. 710 square miles, more than thousand campus and more than 700 thousand students around the same time new york city schools also got a threat. it was same ip address and some same wording. but early on police thought it was a hoax. >> this is not a credible threat. not something that we are concerned with. what we would be concerned with is overreacting. here in boston bps did get hit with cyber attack that shut down system's internet for about 20 minutes. they say it wasn't connected to threats emailed to school district in l.a. and new york. at this time we have no reason to think there are any threats towards boston or our schools any of our agencies.
