nitroglycerin volatile and very dangerous. in fac touching the substance, they say, could cause a heart attack. so bomb squad had to evacuate the building, remove those boxes with the sticks of dynamite, drive it over, transport it over to that other construction site where they safely detonated and again back here live, this is the building here in fox bureau. it's on c.o.d.man hill road and has been vacant for quite a while. they're just cleaning it up ready to get it to be sold and that's contract dynamite was found. police say no charges will be filed because there was no wrong-doing. susan tran, 7news. >> the driver of the runaway red line train no longer works at the mbta. he was supposed to be at the line. more.

since the train flew down the tracks without any man in control. and now he's out of a job. 7news has confirmed david vasquez no longer works for the mbta. there were about 50 people on board last week when the train left the mbta station and traveled mans for about 9 minutes. thankfully no one was hurt. investigators say vasquez tied a cord around the throttle and did not set the brakes before he got off the train, again that driver no longer works for the mbta tonight. in the newsroom, elizabeth noreika, 7news. the first case connected to the death of freddie gray ending in a mistrial. tonight protestors gathering in baltimore, we've got some pictures coming in right now of some crowds that are demonstrating and just listen. >> along the streets, they're lined with police officers. let's get to ryan schulteis here with more tonight. >> freddie gray died after he was taken into police custody and jurors say they could not determine whether a baltimore police officer was criminally responsible for his death.

to the prosecution of the trials of five other police officers freddie gray. the jury deliberated for the past two days even telling the judge they were deadlocked and now with the jury unable to reach a verdict, the judge there declared a mistrial. the 25-year-old died after he was injured while being transported in a police van. his death sparked demonstrations and riots throughout baltimore. his family urging everyone there to stay calm. pickup saw pictures earlier there of protestors chanting, having the extra police officers lining the streets there, and experts say the hung jury could

five officers. ryan schulteis, 7news. >> also on 7, we're hearing from a mother and her boy who escaped this close call in malden. security camera captured that construction collapse when the not. >> it turns out that a stroller was key in protecting the toddler. jonathan hall is live in malden with their story. >> hey, guys. it was a windy day yesterday and sidewalk when three women and a little boy found themselves just walking alone the sidewalk and then the emergency happened. they found themselves trapped under so much plywood when it suddenly fell over. >> reporter: it was this bent stroller and maybe straight good luck which helped save a malden toddler. this 2-year-old mom did go in an ambulance tuesday after a 35

plywood wall came tumbling down, right on top of them, as they you walked down a sidewalk on a windy day. dipi was hit on the head but her first thought was for her baby. >> i was not sure, he was injured or not. i'm just asking to my son what happened, do you have any pain or anything, and said no. i want to go to home. >> reporter: diti was hurt, she has a broken bone in her neck but should be okay. her husband was so upset when he got his wife's anguished call that he ran to the accident site still wearing his slippers. >> but it was a good day, too. more than a dozen people rushed in to lift that wall within seconds. the injuries to diti and two other women who were hurt are not serious and little tanush is just fine, in part because of the sturdy stroller that shielded him from the wood and aluminum structure. >> you must feel very gratified that the stroller broke the fall

>> i am really very thankful to god. >> but how could this happen? the malden building inspector is looking into it, and this young family would like some answers. we're live in malden, tonight, jonathan hall, 7news. boss say they're not happy with what a principal is accused of doing with school computers. dan hausle is live in swampscott to tell us more. >> this is the second shoe that dropped last week. the principal was put on leave and today he's off of the job. the superintendent revealing a little more information about what reasons they have, but also holding back saying there are legal reasons she can't say more. >> patients and students leaving swampscott high, reacting to the news the school's principal has resigned. >> it's disheartening to hear. >> edward was made principal two years ago and now the superintendent is accepting his resignation citing some sort of misconduct involving school computers.

parents she can't say more for legal reasons. >> i was told it had something to do with the computer but i really don't know exactly. >> it could be anything, it's so not really known. >> reporter: in a letter to parents, the superintendent writes it recently has come to my attention that the principal engaged in conduct id'd inappropriate through his school-issued computers and went on to say none of the agencies to this point ever involved any of the swampscott students or swampscott school district employees or officials. >> a little scary that he would be doing that on school property, whatever he was accused of that was serious enough that he needed to resign. >> that kind of creeps me out that he would do something like that on school property. and if that's the case, i'm okay with him resigning. >> no answer at o the principal's beverly home. beverly police say they put him on leave for what was then called a pending personnel matter.

over his duties. >> the essex county d.a.'s office wouldn't say why state police detectives had visited this man's home. they wouldn't even confirm there's any kind of criminal investigation related to this matter. live in swampscott, dan hausle, 7news. and there's more news today. a firey crash in wakefield sends two people to the hospital, they're lucky to be alive. the car fears have hit a guardrail along route 128 this morning and burst into flames. two people hurt, were ejected by the car and they are expected to survive. the head of chipolte saying sorry for a local neuro virus -- norovirus outbreak. in a letter to readers, chipolte's founder says the company is taking significant steps to ensure all food served at the chain's restaurant is safe as possible. and the letter comes after an e. coli outbreak linked to

country and a norovirus outbreak in brighton at a chipolte restaurant. the restaurant is still closed for cleaning and inspection after 120 people were sickened by eating the food there. a hawk was released and flew up into the tree for the first time since injurying itself last week. that's when the sisters scooped the bird off the street with their sweater. the girls are happy to see that the animal is doing better. >> we just stood there for a couple of minutes trying to see if it would fly away and it eventually flew away into the wall. >> i gave it to her, she scooped it up and gave it to me and i holded it until animal control came. >> how did you feel when it flew away? >> she cried. it was a very happy moment. nice to see that. >> and the hawk later flew back down to the parking lot. because of, that animal control took it back to a vet just for some more tests, double and triple-check everything. >> yes. coming up on 7news at 6:00. this is getting a lot of attention. lebron james back in boston.

this high school sophomore is a two sport athlete. he plays basketball and golf although he openly says he must prefers playing basketball, this after suffering severe brain damage. last night during the celtics game he was being recognized by the team but that's when lebron james took notice. during the second quarter of last night's game against the cleveland cavaliers, the celtics honored alan mirror. he had to go through a surgery. miller plays two sports in high school. lebron saw miller's inspirational story on the jumbotron. during that time-out, he ran over to aaron to congratulate him and after the game he had another surprise for the 16-year-old. >> and then the man came over and said lebron wanted to see you, and he was just taking off his shoes, and he gave me his

>> and what did he say? he was like, i'm proud of you, buddy. you deserve it and you know you're my inspiration, and keep fighting. like don't give up. >> a moment he will never forget, that's for sure. interestingly enough, miller was wearing a pair of lebron's shoes, a special pair partially designed by lebron james to help special needs kids who have a hard time tying their shoelaces. this is kind of a zipper and strap that goes around. miller says he's had the shoes all summer. it's made it easy for him to put them on. he says before he used to be the last one out of the locker room for putting on his shoes and now he's the first one out on the court. live in newton, tim caputo, 7news. felt a bit chilly out there this afternoon but it was seasonable for the time of the year. we have a seasonable weekend ahead. but first we have to track some rain for tomorrow.

outside. we're just not used to it from all the mild weather that we've had. a few mid- to high-level clouds increase from the west tonight and low level clouds increase from the southeast. so we will cloud up tonight and that will foreshadow this rain to come. you see a front off to the west of and us then a wave of low pressure developing down through the deep south and that will enhance some of that increased rain activity up and down the east coast. these are temperatures tomorrow afternoon. this is the cold shot that will arrive for the weekend and hold temps close to 40 degrees. before we get to it, though, close to 50 tomorrow, at least from boston south. and we do expect temperatures into the lower 50s, again on friday. we'll also have some rine to talk about. not quite yet this evening but overnight tonight and late overnight in the predawn hours there may be a little bit of patchy drizzle out there and with temperatures north and west of 495 there may be a patch to a

tomorrow morning. i expect a chance of widespread showers tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening, so the ride home should feature some wet roads out there. we're dry for a while on friday. there may be another close call with a couple of showers midday friday. but i think overall the bulk of the rain over the next several days will come tomorrow afternoon to tomorrow evening, closer to an inch down through the cape and islands. forecast for tonight becoming cloudy patchy drizzle late well after midnight tonight. 28 in the colder suburbs north and west of boston, 38 in the city of boston. cloudy tomorrow. wide range of temperatures, it will feel more like the low 40s across southern new hampshire to the low to mid-50s south of the city of boston where winds are out of the southeast in the afternoon.

the coachng staff do a goolt good job preparing for anything that can and can't happen in the game and coach does a great job, just giving different practice situations so i think he does a good job keeping everybody on their toes. >> julian edelman was doing well since suffering a broken foot on november 15th. and the pats offense will keep chugging along. >> it's not only us. every team has injuries. every team has like adverse toilet deal with. it's no different. it's just something that is unexpected and you have to adapt. >> the bruins having earned at least a point in their 11 of last 12 games.

pittsburgh team that surprisingly has struggled to score goals all season long. with all those goal scorers on the team. tonight marks the second game behind the penguins bench for former bruins head coach mark sullivan, finally getting a second chance to coach in the nhl nearly 10 years after being dismissed by the bruins. sullivan was let go after coaching his hometown team for just two seasons. for the first time in 27 games, patrick failed to register a point, head off the score sheet last night by the colorado of a large. cane didn't even get a shot on goal for the first time all season as his franchise record 26 point game streak came to an end. and for the second time in less than a week here the celtics will close out the back end of a back to back on the road taking on the pistons in detroit. that's sports. >> joe, thanks so much. >> 7news at 6:00 will be right
