house that's now been covered up with the blue tarp. you see all the damage left behind here. the area is off-limits. right now. this afternoon, the home owner is talking about his early-morning wake-up call. >> i thought... >> reporter: describing the loud boom around 7:00. after this s.u.v. barreled into their home here in foxboro. leaving a gaping hole in the family room, shredding the christmas tree. >> my wife had gotten up before me. i was just getting up. i hadn't even gotten dressed yet. i looked out. and there was no front of the house. >> reporter: emergency responders say a 16-year-old boy operating the chevy tahoe lost control and smashed into the house before damaging a parked car in the driveway. no one was hurt, including the >> his parents came on scene taken home by his parents. he was not injured. >> reporter: the damage

so much so, the house is uninhabitable right now. >> the back porch is okay. we will get them to get their belongings. they can't go back in the house until it's been repaired. >> reporter: harry is thankful everyone is okay. they are concerned about their holiday plans. >> we were supposed to have 15 over for christmas. doesn't look like that now, that is for sure. >> reporter: the building inspectors keeping an eye on all of. this they have to figure out where they go from here. as for the investigation, police still looking into the cause. why that teen lost control and left the roadway. smashing into the house. that is one thing they are looking at right now. the investigation here is ongoing this afternoon. we are live in foxboro, steve cooper, 7 news. >> christa: also breaking an eggs under way in milton after

when a kitchen went up in flames. this little eight-year-old girl, luckily, made it out >> jadiann: we have just learned where the mother was at the time of the fire. with more on the investigation. >> reporter: yeah. in addition to that little girl, there was a woman in the second-floor apartment as well at restoration company is here button up this property. looking into the case. department of children and families. the story yesterday was that the mom went food-shopping and left her child home. but now a new story is emerging. the mother of a young girl left home alone when fire broke out in her house returned to hudson street today but wouldn't say a word about what happened. >> i just spoke with the fire marshal's office. it is accidental in nature. so we are happy with that. >> reporter: the fire ripped thursday afternoon. heavily damaging the back decks. and when milton fire arrived, they got a surprise.

standing outside with a neighbor. she had gotten out safely on her own. >> the mother went to pick up the two-year-old daughters which were a street away. you know, in reality, you know, she shot next-door to grab the kids. it all transpired in that period of time. it was caused by an issue with the stove. we believe it got into the vent from the stove and you know, spread into the wall. and the attic. >> reporter: at family list upstairs. now they are removing belongings days before christmas. a woman ran outside from the second floor after hearing her smoke detector go off and she called her fiance. >> she was crying. she said that the house is on fire. i left work and came straight here. >> reporter: luckily, nobody was hurt here in the close

homeless, looking for places to stay. the windows boarded up. damage is extensive. the fire chief says this will not be a knock-down. not a total loss. jonathan hall, 7 news. >> christa: breaking news on the run-away red line train. attorneys for the driver david vasquez plan to appeal. he was fired from the m.b.t.a. this week. he was supposed to be on a train that left braintree station last week. that unmanned train then traveled without a driver for roughly nine minutes through several stops and dozens of passengers were onboard at the time. "t" employees f cut power to the train and stopped it. luckily no, one was hurt. again, the driver appealing that decision to fire him fbs. when we get more information, we will pass it along to you. >> jadiann: now turning to your weather. button up this weekend. the cold is coming. blustery conditions headed our way. for more on the forecast, let's get over to jeremy reiner. >> jeremy: right.

plymouth at 51. hyannis, 53. rook off to our west. some cool air. jaffrey and orange in the lower 40's. we have a weather system still close by to generate clouds and periods of rain. most of it focused on the south coast and the cape. buzzards bay. there are a couple of sprinkles and brief showers that will march across metro-boston throughout the afternoon. it is not a big deal. i don't think it is the kind of rain we saw last evening. but this afternoon, mostly cloudy skies. holding on to the mild air with temperatures between 46-51. most of the steady, rain, again, will be closer to the canal and out on the cape. here is the cold air. buffalo right now, at 35. toronto, 36. pittsburgh, 32. this will sweep in late tonight and tomorrow. for a change, colder than normal for saturday. we will talk about your weekend forecast coming up. >> christa: all schools closed in north brookfield due to a geyser of water shooting into the air. police say a drunk driver crashed into a fire hydrant

nick emmons is live on the scene. nick, for a while, that town was without water, it sounds like. >> reporter: yeah, that's right. what a way to wake up in the morning. you can't take a shower. you can't use your sink for anything. that drunk driver came down south main street and then came out of control, barreling into the fire hydrant that was here. this one is a new one. they replaced it this morning. it was really a mess. thousands of gallons of water were spraying into the air. a broken fire hydrant shooting thousands of gallons of water into the sky. the town of north brookfield forced to shut down the water supply to fix the damage. >> obviously, you are worried about your townspeople. if off fire, they have to fill up somewhere else. you are disrupting their fire safety. people in town waking up to no water pressure. >> we got home around midnight. and there was a geyser. you can't cook. you can't wash dishes.

rain showers, though. not snowflakes. it is cold this weekend. we warm it right back up as we work into next week and quite warm for christmas eve. radar right now showing a few isolated showers. metro south. and again, they are hit and miss south of the pike. north of town, i think you will have a cloudy afternoon with a few sprinkles. around the metro, there is one right there. that will work up across metro boston for a short time. most of the steady rain this and the islands. the weather system yesterday that brought us all the rain, about half an inch of rain, beneficial rain, it is a little farther away today. you folks on the cape and the islands are still relatively close to that weather system. that is why i think you have the highest chance of a few showers. then here in metro-boston, again, the showers on and off throughout the afternoon. as well as the evening commutes. and early this evening. then things will wind down toward midnight tonight. how much rain is on the way? a tenth of an inch of rain or less around the metro. then working out on the cape and the islands, a quarter of

's today is danielle's turn. >> danielle: i brought some in but it's all gone. today i'm going to show you how to make a perfect addition to any holiday breakfast. it is my mom's been a bah unanimous that bread. here is my holiday helping. hi, everyone. welcome to our home. this is my dog sebastian. we are so excite for our first winter here in boston. and we are going to make my mom's famous banana bread today. a family tradition in our house. she always makes it during the holidays. we are from california, and the second it starts to get cold, even though it doesn't get that cold there, she starts to bake the banana bread.

tradition to boston? let's head to the kitchen. we are going to mix our sugar, eggs, banana and oil. before we do that, we are going to mash up the be unanimous that is. the riper the bananas, the better it tastes. now, i'm going to crack the eggs. we will add our oil. add the sugar. whisk it all together. the be unanimous that is are starting to loosen up. i prefer to do this in two separate bowls. one with dry ingredients. one with wet ingredients. we will combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and some salt. time to add everything together, and then you get to add your chocolate chips. you can use peanut butter chips, white chocolate chips, butter scotch chips. anything you want. pour the batter into a buttered and floured loaf pan. now the bread is ready to go. all you do, bake it in the oven at 350 degrees. for about 35 minutes. the bread is done. we have let it cool. one final touch. powdered sugar. product. thank you so much for joining

time. we are told this new hydrant here if something similar were to happen it to, it would actually seal itself off. possibly avoiding the same mess that happened today. in north brookfield, nick emmons, 7 news. >> christa: this woman is shaken after someone fired a shot into her home. and now police are trying to figure out where that bullet came from. and who pulled the trigger. here is nicole oliverio with the story. >> reporter: carol startled when she heard a loud bang at she looked around. but at first, didn't see any damage. >> i heard a huge noise. and i didn't look up at the window. for whatever reason. because i didn't think it was there. >> reporter: but the noise was the sound of a bullet fired from a rifle. the bullet apparently shattered her kitchen window. ricocheted off her cabinet, smashing a picture frame near the phone she was using just

>> it is hard to explain. it was like all of a sudden, i couldn't feel anything. i was just so stunned. then i knew there had to be a so i kept looking. and then i found the bullet. her son. gun clubs. one in stoughton. the other in easton. they believe the bullet came from one of those two places. >> both clubs are over a mile away. these rounds travel for miles. >> reporter: the house has they have a collection to prove it. had enough. >> the one that came through the window and almost got my mother was the straw that broke the camel's back. >> reporter: stoughton police are investigating. they are actually looking at footage from both clubs to see if the shots came from there. >> sarah: crews make a risky rescue in maine after a car ends up dangling over a ledge. officials say the driver

guardrail and landed on a rock ledge 60 feet in the air. it took three hours and more than two dozen firefighters to rescue the driver. he wasn't seriously hurt. a pedestrian was injured in whitman after being hit by a car. officials say a 68-year-old man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. but is expected to be okay. several people are hurt after an out-of-control transit bus crashes into a home out in western massachusetts. it happened in cheshire. the bus collided with an s.u.v. before crashing into the house. at least one person suffered serious injuries. state police are still investigating why the two vehicles collided. >> christa: now on just one station: a rivalry rescue in brookline. a starbucks worker finds a dunkin' donuts employee in distress and moves in to make a save. report@starbucks and dunkin' donuts practically side by side in brookline. would be enemies. when you work at 4:00 in the morning, you share a somewhat

friday morning, derek was on his way to his job at dunk's. >> i was using my inhaler. two blocks go by. it is like, i can't even breathe. collapsed. >> the doctor said i had pneumonia. while i was asleep, the fluid had built up in my lungs. so when i lifted up to go get up, it all went inside my lungs. >> reporter: the man ran over to help. >> he said it was really hard to breathe. he had used up his inhaler. >> he knew something was wrong. he came over. he was like, are you all right? i don't have any air left. i couldn't say anything. i'm like, waving at him. i guess he called the police. >> three cop cars showed up. one of the guys had medical training of some sort. he had his own mini oxygen tank. he gave derek oxygen.

ambulance to arrive. >> god only knows. it was 4:00 in the morning. >> i know everybody is like starbucks, dunkin', we don't get along. it was just another guy walking to work in the morning. why wouldn't you want to help? >> christa: a mother is suing chipotle because she says her son contractsed norovirus after he had eaten at the restaurant. 136 people who ate at the chipotle contracted that same illness. >> sarah: boston is set to raise the minimum age to buy cigarettes. the decision is drawing mixed reviews. . >> what this really does is acknowledge it is real danger of tobacco products. and acknowledges that there is no safe dose or use of tobacco.
