grandson was killed in a fire at this home in westport late saturday night. >> such a sweet boy. sweet kid. >> reporter: three other people were injured. that includes the boy's mother and sister. both suffering from serious burns to their bodies. >> you never know from one minute to the next, what's going happen to your children. >> i feel very bad for the family. >> reporter: investigators are still trying to figure out what could have started the fire that took the life of a little boy. >> reporter: investigators are also looking into whether or not this house had smoke alarms and if they were working. we are live from westport, 7

>> nancy: thank you. another deadly fire at a housing complex in brockton. a handicapped elderly man died in the fire. firefighters responding to that fire this afternoon which started in a third-floor apartment. >> firefighters arrived to the alarm sounding. once they got off the elevator on floor three, they had heavy smoke. they traced it to this one apartment. >> nancy: no one else was injured. the cause is still under investigation. >> armed and dangerous. police forced to take down a machete-wielding man in pepperell. police say he was carrying the weapon and refused to put it down. here is a picture of the machete. police say they had to use a stun gun to bring him down. are learning about the man taken into custody. kelli? >> reporter: yes. good evening. pepperell police say this is a bad situation that could have been a whole lot worse. this man was suffering from mental health issues. tonight he is getting the help

now, they say this was the machete. he lunged at them. his wife called 911 asking police for help. when police officers encountered him, they tased him. prevenning a real tragic situation here. >> classic attempted suicide by police officer. it was just tragic. it is a stressful time of year. you know, financial issues. family issues. you know, it's the time of year where we should be kind to each other and take care of each other. >> reporter: well-said there. now, that man getting the help he needs tonight after police avoided a tragic situation. in pepperell, 7 news. >> nancy: two days until start of winter. you may be putting that coat back in the closet soon. we are expecting a winter

it is so hard at this point to keep track of what to wear. >> >> chris: i was going say, we just took them out of the closet. now they have to go back in. seasonably cool weather this weekend. 41, that was the high temperature in boston. 8 right now, dropping off quickly in the suburbs. look at that. hyannis, 29 degrees. quickly heading into the upper 20's and low 0's outside the city of boston. especially where winds have gone calm. however, these numbers will level off and then rise a little bit overnight tonight. once the winds turn back to the south and west. not much going on to the west of us. a lot of clouds around. i do expect more clouds tomorrow. however, i don't expect any rain into tomorrow. different story later into the forecast period. look at. this seasonable out there this evening. falling to upper 20's and low 0's. for a lot of us, upper 30's by daybreak tomorrow. mild air set to move. in we are talking about record warmth christmas eve well into the 60's. more on that and when we could have some rain arriving as well.

own. he did not return. second half. chung leaves with a hip injury. and hightower leaves with a knee injury. this was hightower's first game back after spraining his left mcl. the patriots roll on, though, to a 36-16 win. over the last-place titans. trey daerr reporting live with the latest on the pats injuries. trey? >> reporter: joe, the patriots winning big again on sunday. they did fall into a bit of a lull in the second half. coasting at times a bit. at least for a stretch, it seemed. could it be being hit with more injuries in amendola, chung, the latest names added to the list. this team has been hit hard by injuries as any in the league. >> it is a long season. i think over the course of the season, you are always dealing with some type of adversity, i would say. so i think mental toughness is important in this sport. >> it is never good to see anyone go down.

them bounce right back up and come right back. we have a lot of toughness on this team. there is tough players out there. on our team. and what's great about that, it gives you the mentality. you want to be tough, too. >> joe: another win comes at the cost of three more high-profile players. the biggest injury concern going into the game, the status of tom brady. again, he did not practice on friday. everything seems to be a-okay with tom brady. that could be the most important thing for this team. coming up in 7 sport, more on the patriots defense dominating again this week. as they should against a weak titans offense. joe amorosino, 7 news. >> nancy: a house in hull going up in flames this morning. the fire completely destroying that home on bay street. firefighters say no one was injured, but it took more than three hours to put out the flames. and a vacant house in roxbury catching fire.

that house last night. officials say no one was hurt. investigators are now trying to figure out what started that fire. >> nick: a car crashes into a building in brockton. this happened last night near the intersection of belmont and main street. the car was removed. crews scene here on the scene boarding up windows. no word yet on whether anyone was injured. >> nancy: more news today. a scare in the sky for an air france flying forced to land in africa because of a bomb threat. police say the pilots requested an emergency landing in kenya when they found what they thought was a bomb in the plane's bath root room. the threat turned out to be a false alarm. passengers were shaken up by the whole thing. >> we didn't know what was happening, actually. we had to land because we had a technical problem. but actually, it was not a technical problem. it was problem... it was probably in the toilet. something wrong in the toilet.

you can see him in the cammo jacket. hood over his face. he comes from the left of the screen. his left hand up, his face covered. his right hand in his pocket. he motions down, telling the men inside to getted on ground. they turn the tables. that man in the dark shirt charges him and then, the punches fly. >> he just responded and that's just what happened. and both he and the other guy were able to take control of that situation >> reporter: they were able to get him on the ground until police showed up. guns drawn. according to the arrest report, he told officers he had a gun in his pocket but it was all a joke. they weren't laughing. >> it was very brazen. >> reporter: officers also saying these guys were lucky no one was seriously hurt. students not sure he would be quite as brave. >> i probably wouldn't be the first one to step in, to be honest. >> nick: that was walter morris reporting. police advising the public that you should not fight back

at least for monday. what we are talking about tomorrow is the return of some milder air. temperatures off to the southwest of us, warm today. some of the mild air starting to return tomorrow and it moves in in a hurry. with the moving in in a hurry, you talk about some winds out there. not much wind tonight. but tomorrow, the wind once in a while, guing over 30 miles an hour. we will see these gusts coming out of the south. bringing in that mild air. as i mentioned, i don't expect much rain out there tomorrow. in fact, should be a dry day. more clouds around. the farther north you go in new england, the better chance of seeing some rain and snow showers working in. tuesday, a better opportunity of some scattered showers working. in the brunt of the moisture staying south of us on tuesday. we will still get some scattered showers in here. then on wednesday, we start the day off dry. it will be dry at least through midday. late in the afternoon, into the evening hours, looks like this trail of moisture to the south of us l will have to come on through. that will provide us an opportunity of some wet weather.

especially wednesday night and perhaps some lingering showers into thursday. mostly in the morning hours. i can't rule out a few showers on christmas eve itself. the main story here on christmas eve is going to be the surging mild air. in fact, going for 64 in boston. that would easily beat the record in boston. clear, partly cloudy skies tonight. no where near 60. that is for sure. partly sunny to at times, milder day. there. guing over 0 miles an hour. there are those temperatures in the 50's. the rain chance we talked act. scattered showers on tuesday. better chance of rain late wednesday, wednesday night into early thursday. christmas day looks dry. temperatures start the day

could be in the 40's by the evening. a few more showers possible for the weekend. >> joe: bill belichick and the patriots with a bit of a dilemma. how do they best manage their many injuries and secure the top seed in the play-offs in the afc? the pats sit in the driver's seat at 12-2 after a win over the last-place titans. but injuries, an issue once again. tom brady showing no ill effects after missing friday's practice. brady perfectly accurate on his first drive. 7 for 7, including this five-yard touchdown pass to rob gronkowski. patriots up 7-0. second quarter. defense getting to mariotta. chandler jones. ball comes loose. patriots' first defensive score of the season. it was 14-0. jones with the long arm and big paw on the ball to knock it wasn't all good news.

connects with walker for a 57-yard touch dourn. on the play, patrick chung is tackle. he left with a hip injury and did not return. the now 3-11 titans could not take advantage of the patriots injuries, though. collins ends the game with his first interception of the season. patriots win it 33-16. trey daerr has more from gillette stadium. trey? >> reporter: joe, patriots tight end rob gronkowski about as fun-loving as you are going to find in the n.f.l. and really in all of sports, for that matter. today we saw a much different side of gronk. still dominant on the field. much more subdued off of it. gronkowski missed practice on friday. the patriots tight end was struggling with the loss of his close friend and trainer. gronk dedicating his performance today to his fallen friend. pointing to the sky in remembrance after his first-quarter touchdown. honoring a man who clearly had a great impact on his life.
