>> this is 7 news at noon. >> police searching for a mother and her two children. >> christa: right now they are asking that all of us be on the lookout. this mom is 47-year-old valerie mcgrath. she is with two children. a 7-year-old girl along with a five-year-old boy. police will not say what the relationship is between the woman and the kids.

the victim description. here is what it is. here is what you should be on the lookout for. a 2002 land rover discovery. it is a brownish tan color. the license plate on your screen right now, 847-zz 2. again. that is a massachusetts plate. right now lakeville police are searching for the vehicle. a mother, two missing children inside. we have a crew on the way to lakeville. of course, we will bring you more as we get et. >> jadiann: nashua, new hampshire schools shut down today after receiving a specific and violent threat. >> christa: really out of caution, the district closed. 12 elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools. let's go to steve cooper with the latest on what's happening there and the investigation. steve? >> reporter: right. so several agencies are now involved in this investigation. aside from nashua police here at headquarters, we now know the f.b.i. is involved. we know state police here in new hampshire are involved. and several other agencies as

so far, no arrests in connection with this threat. that has parents around here anxious for answers. >> we have never received a threat that, obviously, made the school system shut down. >> reporter: it is a first for the nashua, new hampshire school district. a shutdown of all the schools after a specific threat of violence was made through an e-mail an administrator. >> it was very specific to the date and how it would happen. >> we have received a detailed threat of violence, to harm students and staff. >> reporter: reverse 911 call notified parents that all schools were closed for the day. both high schools in the city were swept by specially trained dogs. >> we checked all the high schools last night. with some state and federal partners. brought in some dogs and were able to sweep the high schools. >> reporter: police foe kuing on who sent the threat. now they are working with the f.b.i. >> we have spoken with members of the f.b.i. to assist us. they have an office up in

they are assisting us. >> there are so many schools... kids are being killed. school shootings. what's going to happen to our kids here? are they safe in school? >> reporter: the closure brings mixed reaction from everyone in town. for the school superintendent, he says he would rather be cautious. >> in today's environment, if you are in a community that is saying a third-year student shouldn't come to school because we can't verify their safety, we knew that would raise the angst and concerns of both staff and parents and our other schools. >> reporter: we are now told there will be a 4:00 news conference here at police headquarters with nashua police with the school superintendent and also with a representative from the f.b.i.. no word right now on whether or not schools will reopen tomorrow. information that we should learn later on today. we are live in nashua this afternoon, steve cooper, 7 news. >> christa: more breaking news for you today. the presidential race is over for south carolina senator lindsey graham.

candidate announcing today he is suspending his campaign. his campaign team posted a video of his decision right here. graham has been polling near 0% and was not on the main stage in the last republican debate. >> jadiann: nato reports six foreign soldiers have been killed in a suicide attack near bagram airfield in afghanistan. afghan officials say the suicide bomber was on a motorcycle when he rammed his bike into a u.s.-afghan patrol. on twitter, a taliban responsibility for. this the deadliest attack on since august. >> now to las vegas. police there say the driver of a car deliberately crashed into a crowd of people on the sidewalk. sadly, killing one person, injuring so many more. as we go to kris anderson, kris, we do know that there was a young child in this car as well. right? >> kris: one person was killed in this incident.

the woman in her 20's, the driver intentionally drove her car on to the crowded sidewalks of the las vegas strip. plowing into dozens of people who are walking along that sidewalk. they say she had a three-year-old in the car. that child, again, was not hurt. the woman, though, left the scene of the accident, then drove to a hotel a few blocks away. police found the car there with a smashed windshield. and that's when they arrested this suspect. witnesses say the woman ignored people who were pounding on the windows, yelling at her to stop. >> we suddenly saw people flying in the air. the car hit them. it was like a bowling ball hitting pins. >> people were punching the window, trying to get the child out of the back seat. she accelerated again and just kept mowing everyone down. >> kris: this tragic ordeal happening in front of the planet hollywood hotel where the miss universe pageant was taking place inside. police believe the woman

she is expected in court later today. kris anderson, 7 news. >> jadiann: well, today is the first day of winter. if you can believe it. >> christa: officially ushers in tonight. wait until you get to christmas eve. we could be in for a record-breaker. is that right? breys if... a very windy day ahead of us. the wind advisory has been expanded. maybe you saw hit the morning. now it is for all coastal areas. ann, cape cod and martha's vineyard. that is through 5:00 p.m. for the potential for gusts. 40-50 miles per hour. current temperatures, though, right around 50 degrees. when you have an air temp that is 50 or higher, you don't factor in a windchill at all. we are not talking about a blustery wind like we had on saturday. mild air that is working in from the southwest. also comes with enough moisture to keep the cloud cover with us throughout this week. so windy today.

but also a couple of chances for some showers as we enter the middle of this week. you had it right. change of season. winter solstice. what does this mean for us? at 11:48 tonight, well, this is the shortest day of the year. tomorrow, very similar to. that then we start to gain our daylight hours back. some great news there. we will talk about that big warm-up coming up in a few minutes. >> jadiann: a new bedford man facing a judge charged with animal cruelty. police say they found dead animals in his home and in his yard. >> christa: these conditions so bad, they took away the other animals living there. here is nicole oliverio. she is live in new bedford with more. nicole? >> reporter: well, we can tell you david santos was just in court about an hour ago. according to prosecutors, they say that inside his home, they foundel is dead cats. they also say there were several dogs that appeared to be malnourished. when they looked in the backyard, they also found several dead chickens. along with rabbits.

nine felony counts of animal cruelty. his lawyer, however, says that police had no right to search his home to begin with. his lawyer says that this all began when police were looking for a car they believed was involved in a hit-and-run. that car was located at santos' apartment but didn't belong to santos himself. >> he's got no record. he's got no history. he is not a mean-spirited person. i mean, people have animals because they love animals. not because they want to be mean to animals. he has no history of anything. >> reporter: and santos' lawyer says he doesn't believe his client has mental illness. so he could offer no explanation for the malnourished animals or the skeletal remains found in that new bedford backyard. santos was allowed to leave on the $1,000 bail that he posted over the weekend. live in new bedford, 7 news. >> jadiann: a third suspect in the worcester armory heist is in custody, set to appear in court later today.

bigsby of dorchester. bigsby was arrested last month after one of the 19 stolen weapons were found in her possession. 32-year-old james morales of cambridge was charged with breaking into the armory and taking the weapons. he was tracked down in new york and arrested. the suspect in a hit-and-run crash in saugus is also heading to court today. three people were seriously injured in the crash on hamilton street on saturday. police say the 19-year-old driver of one of the vehicles took off. he was later arrested after police spoke with his father who agreed to bring in his son to surrender. >> christa: three more during sunday's game. it put a damper on the team's 12th win of the season. tennessee titans. that. the good news for the pats, though, they have now secured a first-round bye in the play-offs. victoria warren has the latest from gillette stadium. >> brady. tosses. end zone! gronkowski, touchdown,

winter tail-gate. >> joe: this year we are making pulled pork with carolina pig sauce. the combination of smoke, heat, and sweet is amazing. and the real work was done a few weeks ago. this is pig day, 2015. we do it every year with my boy bobby g. bobby, it is all about the smoke and temperature. tell the people how it's done. >> yeah. what we are doing here, joe, we are seasoning some pork shoulder. it is called pork butt. that is the cut. it is actually the shoulder. and youley it on the smoke here for eight hours. >> joe: why is this better than somewhere else? >> there is something about pork fat and hickory smoke. and this vinegar sauce. it drives people wild. >> joe: we are back in the kitchen now. we are going to finish this in the oven. it will go for about four hours at 275. it will be a slow-cooking process. this is going to allow this pig butt to really fall apart. now, while that's finishing in the oven, we will go ahead and make our vinegar-based sauce.

driver of a car deliberately drove into a crowd on the sidewalk, killing one person. kris anderson is following this story. he has more now from our control room. >> kris: sar remarks terrifying moments here. one person was killed. a woman in her 20's intentionally drove her car up on to the crowded sidewalks right there on the las vegas strip. plowing down dozens of people who were simply out walking. she had a three-year-old in the car with her. that child was not hurt. the woman, though, left the scene and drove to a hotel a few blocks away. police found the car with a smashed windshield. that is when they arrested this woman. witnesses say she ignored people pounding on the window, yelling at her to stop. >> people were punching the window, trying to get the child out of the back seat.

mowing everyone down. >> kris: police say there are no warning signs or no signs at all. that this is an act of terrorism. they do believe the woman recently moved to the las vegas area. she is expected in court later today. >> christa: we spligt a record on our hands come christmas eve, bri. >> bri: i don't know. feels more like fall. we get the last few hours of fall until 11:48 tonight. very windy out there. these are your wind gusts. generally, between 25-35 miles per hour. that is why there is a wind advisory that is posted for the north shore, cape ann, down through cape cod and also southeastern massachusetts and martha's vineyard. through 5:00 p.m. for the potential for gusts between 40-50 miles per hour. that could down some small tree branches and make for minor power disruption. something to keep an eye on for this afternoon.

shows us, investigators are looking into whether this home even had working smoke detectors. a great grandfather tries catch his breath. heart-broken, he learned the fire at this westport home killed his four-year-old great grandson caleb. >> such a sweet boy. sweet kid. >> you never know from one minute to the next. what your children... what's going to happen to them. >> reporter: the family was looking forward to celebrating christmas. with plenty of presents under the tree from caleb. >> i just came from my daughters's house. my grandson john who was the father, they had bought him...

just starting life. >> reporter: the cause of the fire remains under investigation. people have left flowers, candles, and teddy bears for that four-year-old. >> christa: much more news today. police arrest a passenger in connection with a fake bomb threat onboard an air france plane. that passenger reportedly a retired french police officer. the plane was supposed to land in paris but pilots made an emergency touchdown when a passenger told a flight attendant about a possible bomb in the bathroom. turned out it was just cardboard, paper, and a kitchen timer. >> we have a gentleman in the he has been injured by the bear.

his arms and his head. >> reporter: the emergency radio call started around noon on sunday. police, firefighters and wildlife regulators rushed to a reservoir in rockaway township, new jersey. the scout leader had been exploring a cave with three scouts when he was suddenly bit on the leg and pulled in by a black bear. the boys, ages 10-12 kept their cool. called 911 and led search teams to the site. >> they also have started a fire probably for a smoke signal. >> reporter: the scouts put food at the mouth of the cave to lure the bear out. it took an hour and 20 minutes. rescuers still had challenges. >> they are requesting more manpower at the location with the victim. apparently, they are up on a rock ledge. they are going to need assistance getting them down. >> reporter: the 50-year-old victim was taken out on a stretcher and flown to the hospital. the scout master told investigators he had been in the same cave before and never

through this afternoon through 5:00 p.m. gusts 40-50 miles per hour. through southeastern massachusetts and the north shore, south shore, and cape cod. current temperatures right around 50. this is why we don't have windchill readings to look at. that is because those temps are quite mild. this is really warm. compared to where our highs should be for this time of year. we should be topping out around 39. we may have another degree or two of warming to do yet today. clouds are with us. we will stay dry today. maybe even seeing a few peeks of filtered sunshine. we do have some chances for rain as we head through the next couple of days. how about the mild month that it's been so far? a lot of orange boxes. as much as we were bundled up saturday and sunday, both days were still above average. that puts us about 9.degrees above average. with yet another mild week ahead of us: all of this mild air pushes in from the southwest, and it really goes far to the north. we are talking about moisture pushing in as well.
