marathon bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev testified at his trial back in march. after striking a plea deal with prosecutors in change for the lighter sentence. >> he agreed to provide information that was instrumental in the the trial of dzhokhar tsarnaev. >> reporter: silva pleaded guilty to giving dzhokhar the gun used by the tsarnaevs to kill colier. silva testified every time he asked for the gun back dzhokhar came up with a different excuse. silva took responsibility for his actions. silva who says he has no idea what the tsarnaevs were planning added: what does this day mean to you to be walking out of a `federal courtroom in boston? >> being free is the best feeling in the worlds.

the best of it. >> reporter: silva's courtroom applauded when he heard the judge's time served sentence and he was courtroom. silva he is also been placed on three years of supervised probation now. live in boston tonight, steve cooper, 7 news. >> kim: thank you. silva said his freedom offers him a second chance. he says that it's one he doesn't plan on wasting. our team 7 coverage continues with dan hausle. >> reporter: silva says he was dumb when he was young and give that gun to the tsarnaev brothers. he does say the rest of his life he hopes to make difference. silva walks away from the moakley ciaos vowing to be a different man. >> everybody can change. >> reporter: prosecutors say silva was involved in drug dealing and provided the gun used in the killing of sean collier. silva says he can't change that but he can change his future.

about his plans for the future. >> get my degree. get back to the community and try to become a better person. no more drug dealing for sure and trying to help out the needy. >> reporter: silva says he plans to see his family, his goddaughter and his grandmother. he says time behind bars forced him to reflect on the choicings he made and the choices ahead. >> it's not a good place to be. especially when you can be doing more p with your life. especially when i was going to school, doing a lot of good things, but it give me a lot of time to reflect and made me want to do the right thing. >> reporter: silva says he knows there are certain things he can't change. he can't change the opinion of some people who think he didn't serve enough time blind -- blind bar, dan hausle, 7 news. >> kim: we've been following this breaking story and you can get breaking news updates any time on our mobil and tablet app.

this moves up the eastern seaboard quickly tomorrow. so you will need the rain gear middle and latter half of the day. tomorrow morning don't think you need the rain gear. lunchtime a couple of scattered showers then as we work to mid afternoon the only commute is going to see rain. that rain tomorrow is going to be a little heavier than today. today about a third of an inch but the rain on the way tomorrow probably half inch to upwards of an inch of rain. it's another warm system, temperatures in the 0's, even warmer for christmas eve. we'll talk more about that in a few. >> adam: a local mother is called to court accused of kidnapping her children. the children are safe and sound right now. they were reunited with their father last night. police say their mom never returned the children as propsed after he allowed a short visit sunday afternoon. jonathan hall is outside of wareham district court where she is telling a different story.

this mom says when it was time to bring the kids home her 7-year-old began to cry and she fathered her exboyfriend might harm the children so she choose to run but local police had indications that she might hurt the kids and that is why they got a warrant for her arrest on sunday. police say 47-year-old valerie mcgrath was on the run with her two young children from more than 24 hours, eden and steve he a happy reunion with their dad last night. >> they seemed happy. they hugged moe and they didn't seem they were stressing. >> reporter: valerie mcgrath faces four serious charges including parental kidnapping. state police stopped her in a rental car with the kids at a mcdonald in raynham. police say found a suicide note in valerie mcgrath's car which show abandoned earlier. a prosecutor read from the note. >> i'm very sorry. i love you so much i can't stand being away from the kids for another minute.

i can't do this any more. >> reporter: the state says police were concerned about safety of the kids because valerie mcgrath's sister told them she had made threatening statements during her last visit with the children in october. >> she did not want to drop off the kids. she mote as well drive into traffic. >> reporter: the sister asked for an amber alert but police declined to issue one. family and friend didn't say much. >> my sister is a very good mom. >> reporter: valerie mcgrath's lawyer told the court she feared for her children's safety and had been a victim of domestic violence with carrigan being arrested multiple times. >> she a desperate woman who was at her wit's end yet. >> reporter: a sad tale for this family and valerie mcgrath won't be home for christmas because a judge revoked her bail on a plier case involving the fraudulent use of a credit card. her lawyer says it was her

there is no cold air to sweep in behind this rain maker. what we'll have is left overmoisture and visibility is dropping. orange is two mile visibility. tonight rain faded away. patchy fog. partly cloudy and mild, lows between 43-50. now for tomorrow, a lot of clouds once again. that is the trade-off with the mild pattern. it's unsettled. here comes another storm but up like today i think this afternoon hours. dry. but i would have the rain gear ready to go by early to mid afternoon. most towns around 2:00, 3:00, noon tomorrow is still not raining then into the afternoon, 3:00, 4:00 you see a few scattered showers and there will be a burst of steadier rainfall tomorrow evening. here at 8:00 tomorrow night a lot of yellow on the screen and orange. heavier downpours perhaps

it's a warm front moving through and these usually are not this active in december, but it's unusual we have a warm surge of air coming into the southern new england tomorrow night and through the day on thursday. christmas eve record warmth shaping up. rainfall forecast most towns close to appear inch of rain on the way. if tomorrow is your travel england, this is where the rain is coming from. coming up from the mid atlantic states so the 95 corridor will have rain. if you are heading north most of the day is dry up there. unfortunately in ski country this is going to be a rain maker as well with temperatures up north into the 40s, if you are flying out of new england showers and thunderstorms. there may be some severe thunderstorms across portions of the mid south. st. lou i atlanta, east of dallas but maybe rough weather across the southeast with scattered showers and storms. chicago rain, 50 to around 60. minneapolis you do find scattered showers then in the pacific northwest,
