>> chris: easily surpassing the old record of 61. look at that. 70 in fitchburg. 53 in bedford. north of the city of boston, it will get there. over the next hour or so. that will continue to lift massachusetts-new hampshire border. that is where the visibility through portions of northeastern massachusetts has been lowered still with a little bit of fog. if not a lot of fog up in nashua, new hampshire. look at the window out of the at 29 miles an hour. southwesterly wind. that is active. it is pushing all of the mild air to the north here. i do expect even southern new hampshire as well as northeastern massachusetts to get into that mild air over the next couple of hours. not much going on on satellite and radar composite. have a couple of isolated sprinkles and showers west of us. i can't rule out a passing isolated shower or sprinkle. weather. even tomorrow, way above the average. christmas day. you don't see it a whole lot here in the city of boston.

since records have been kept. since 1872, do we see 60 degrees or better in the city of boston. the warmest temperature on record in boston, for christmas, you have to go back to 1889. this is christmas day again. 65 degrees then. we will be close to 60 tomorrow. nonetheless, warm air. despite being this mild now by next tuesday, we could be talking about some snow and ice with the forecast ahead. >> sarah: all right. thanks, >> chris:. rare december thunderstorms spawned more than a dozen tornadoes reported in mississippi alone. reported killed across three states. and many others hurt or missing. nancy chen joins us now with more on this unexpected outbreak. nancy? >> reporter: those dangerous storms hit mississippi, particularly hard. there were 29 reported tornadoes just yesterday. and now today crews are still searching for people who are missing. a rare december sight as tornadoes tore across

this twister crossed right over a busy highway. you can actually see a track or the-trailer get flipped over by the twister. further south, this massive funnel cloud. the south and midwest on edge and under the gun. >> tornado emergency continues for the cell that has been tracking through north mississippi this afternoon. >> reporter: roofs ripped from homes. one person critically injured. the same system threw cars from the roadway. numerous tornado watches and warnings in effect for at least ten states. in arkansas, soaking rains and high winds pushed a tree on to a house, killing an 18-year-old woman. stories. you don't expect you to be in them. >> reporter: storms brought heavy rains elsewhere in the south, making tough driving for truckers and holiday travelers alike. and in the nation's busiest

>> i made sure i got here early enough to get through security and be here in line. >> reporter: meantime, in mississippi, a 7-year-old boy died when a storm picked up and tossed the car he was riding in. the threat for severe weather in the south is decreasing today. >> christa: happening right now. the chipotle in cleveland circumstance is preparing to be back in business after the alarming outbreak. the restaurant was shut down two weeks ago after dozens of student got sick from the norovirus. today there is a new issue that is causing a delay. so for the latest on that, let's go to kimberly bookman. kim? >> reporter: we were expecting that the restaurant would be open in time for lunch. but as you said, an unexpected delay. and that was a water leak. delivery trucks pull up to the cleveland circle chipotle thursday morning to restock the restaurant. as employees retrained and get ready for their shifts. this is the day they have been waiting for to.

than 150 people, mostly boston college students, got the noro virus after eating here. a water leak inside has put that on hold for now. and this man watching the him. he will pass anyway. chance. i don't want to be sick. i don't want to go to a hospital or wait in the waiting room and ruin an entire day. >> reporter: boston inspectional services did give fast food chain a clean bill of health wednesday. >> the facility is in good shape. it is clean. again, disinfected. >> reporter: the restaurant really can open whenever it is ready. right now a spokesperson says it won't do anything until the water leak is fixed. so again, the restaurant has taken all the steps to reopen. they even pulled down the closed sign earlier this month. in the last half hour, they put that back up. we are waiting to see if they will reopen today on this christmas eve day.

circle, 7 news. >> sarah: mayor marty walsh and the menino family coming together for a kri mass celebration. jennifer eagan was there and she joins us now with more on this special event. hey, jen. >> reporter: sar remarks good afternoon. this is a tradition that started more than 20 years ago by mayor menino. it continues this year with presents for 500 children. inside the st. peter's teen center in dorchester, gifts for hundreds of kids this christmas. >> i have nine grandchildren. you know, i'm a heart patient. i can't work. so it does make it a lot easier. . >> what did you ask santa claus for this year? i asked if i could see him. >> reporter: that may be a tall order. there were plenty of other treats handed out with the help of catholic charities and

himself three different times. she was with her daughter at the time. she didn't see it happen. her daughter mentioned it only after they left the store. >> we were sitting there. i felt completely sick to my stomach. i couldn't believe the happened. especially this time of year, would be aware of what was going on. and just more cautious of being careful with their kids. officers have looked at the surveillance footage. a trial has been postponed and no new start date has been determined. the defense and prosecution had asked the judge to delay the trial. he is accused of killing two men in boston's south end in 2012 and is currently serving life in prison for the murder odin lloyd. both sides will be back in court january 19 to figure out a new schedule. >> sarah: in dracut, a car slams into a home. the fam lip was inside at the

a loud bang. the car had been involved in an accident before it barreled through the front porch. the family says because oaf a busy street they live on, they are not surprised this happened. a man attacked near the park plaza hotel. according to e.m.s. the victim was slashed in the throat. and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. it happened around 2:30 this morning. right now, police are still searching for two men. >> christa: an officer asked for a stun gun before a teenager was shot and killed in chicago last year. this videotape has surfaced earlier. mow the audio recordings, radio calls allegedly reveal that an officer originally requested the taser as a non-deadly way to subdue the teen carrying a knife. it is not clear which officer, however, made that request. when the teen wouldn't drop the knife, a police officer allegedly shot him 16 times. as he appeared to walk away from the scene.

with murder. >> sarah: belgian police have arrested a ninth suspect linked to last month's attacks in paris. police arrested the man earlier this week. but kept it quiet. they didn't alert any potential accomplices. he had been in contact with the suspected ringleader's cousin several times. >> christa: now the race for the white house. the republican candidate ted cruz is slamming the "washington post" for publishing a political cartoon depicting his two daughters as monkeys. the "washington post" eventually took down the on-line cartoon. but the artist says that she was justified in using cruz's daughters because they had appeared alongside him in a new campaign ad. cruz, meantime, says they should have been off-limits. >> let me suggest a very simple rule that everyone ought to follow. tlooe kids alone. leave my kids alone. leave marco's kids alone. ley hillary's kids and grandkids alone.

still have fog. closer to 50 in southern new massachusetts. south of the border, though. a southwesterly wind. an active wind. 20 miles an hour right now. 26 in worcester. that strong southwesterly wind will continue to scour out the cool air and push it farther offer to the north and east hampshire. the dew points, 63 in boston. if you are saying hey, it feels muggy outside. it is muggy outside. these are the numbers we talk about a lot of times in the summertime. we bust out the frizz factor here. 60-degree reading dew points continuing this afternoon. forecast not much going on and falling from the sky. we have a lot of cloud around. still occasional sun. isolated shower or sprinkle to go throughout the day. much of the time remaining dry. as we go throughout the day. we will continue to look forward to mostly a dry forecast here over the next several days. so today's forecast featuring that record warmth. we will continue to be there this afternoon. a bit breezy as well. what about the rest of the country? for that, over to danielle. >> danielle: thanks, >>

our latest first snow in worcester used to be this day in 1923. now it is today. for boston, the latest first snowfall isn't until january 13. we will have to see about that one. the snow is mostly out west. 42 in seattle. if you are traveling out west. check your flights. freezing in denver. if you are staying close by, we still have the risk for severe weather. from atlanta up into north carolina. tornadoes still possible in parts of alabama and georgia today. no tornado watches or warnings in effect right now, though. if you are staying close by traveling, you should be fine. today, tomorrow, and into saturday. we will call sunday a fair travel day. we could see some showers. monday and tuesday, though, if you have travel plans, we could be seeing some snowflakes. for more on that, back to you. >> chris: that will be the storm to watch, danielle. monday night into tuesday. mostly on tuesday, though. coming in here. especially for the morning commute. through the midday hours.

>> sarah: we are whipping up our favorite holiday recipes all for a good cause. >> christa: today is the last one. i'm sad to see it go with all this great food. today, adam williams is introducing us to a cookie native to new mexico. here is adam's holiday helping. >> reporter: hi, everyone. welcome back to our home. happy holidays. this year i'm going to make some christmas cookies from my home state of new mexico called biscuit cheatoes. let's start cooking. we are in the kitchen now. with some basic cookie will have making ingredients. there is something special we add. in we will get to that later. baking powder and salt will be added to the flour that's been sifted. now we will mix up these

in a separate bowl, we will cream the shortening, the sugar and that special act. here goes the shortening. and you can see why we have to fluff it. it is pretty solid. next we've got our sugar. what a good... what are good cookies without the sugar? now the unique ingredient. the annis seeds which i freshly ground. you can buy the annis oil to make life easier. this will give it this nice lick rich taste. we will mix this up. one at a time. this is interesting. because i'm not good at cracking eggs. no shells. the next step is adding our flour mixture. a little bit at a time. here we go. our flour mixture is almost there. one last step. it is a white wine. we have wrapped the dough so it doesn't dry out. now it is time for it to chill out. we will put it in the refrigerator for one to two hours. now comes the fun part. or hard part for some of us. we will roll these out and start cutting cookies. you can use whatever cookie

conditions. just set a record. last? >> chris: lambert, what record did we break, by the way. >> chris: high temperature in boston. more records there. the warmest overnight low for the date in boston as well. we have now seen 17 days in december of 50 degrees and above. that is a new record. records galore to go around on this christmas eve. 66 in boston right now. 65 in worcester. look at that. 70 in fitchburg. 60's. today is more typical of daytona beach, florida than boston, massachusetts. unreal to see this come southwesterly wind surging, too. at times over 20 miles an hour. will scour out the cool air that enough place. through nashua, new hampshire. massachusetts, too. the temperatures will jump a quick 10-15 degrees at times. once we can break through the fog and some low-level chill you have in place. not much going on on the radar.

heading toward the islands. from the vineyard over to nantucket. today. right? there are a couple of showers about to clip you there. we may catch an isolated shower throughout day. overall, the bulk of the rain staying to the south of us. again, upper 60's to near 70 heading true through the afternoon. even christmas day itself, another mild day. not quite record-setting. we will have temperatures christmas. it is a dry day. get the kids outside. let them run around for a while. get them off that sugar high. after eating all the christmas chocolate. christmas eve forecast tonight. midnight mass. no need to bundle up that much. frbs it will get cooler out there. still expecting temperatures around midnight to mid and upper 50's. i expect much cooler weather next week. including the chance of some snow and ice in the forecast. >> christa: we really have things so easy. families in another area of this country are cleaning up on this christmas eve day. an unexpected outbreak of deadly winter tornadoes left behind a whole lot of damage.

people off-guard, the dangerous storms left at least ten people dead in mississippi, tennessee, and in arkansas. in mississippi, a tornado damaged at least 20 homes. some of them ripped off their foundations. twister picked up and tossed the car he was riding in. also, an 18-year-old died when a tree blew over on to her house. today we are also getting a firsthand look at the damage. you can see from this aerial footage, homes with roofs ripped apart. there is also debris scattered across lawns and on top of cars. and crews are still right now, searching for people who remain missing for a lot of people. they will be spending their kri mass eve cleaning up, looking at the damage. and the severe weather threat at least is decreeing for this day. >> sarah: looks like lunch will have to wait if you want cleveland circle. a water leak keeping the city signed off on its reopening. we were talking about the reopening just this morning.

more. >> reporter: yeah. that's right. we brought you this story yesterday. this man caught on video taking those expensive laser lights from a home in lynn. but now he is giving back those lights. and the people he stole them from are also showing some compassion. the holiday lights taken from this lynn home are back up and running. that is because the real-life grinch who stole them had a change of heart. >> last night someone came into the station and turned the equipment in that had been stolen. >> we showed you the surveillance video yesterday. >> the next day, i saw some of the lights were on. i went outside. and it was missing. he took the laser light beam. he took an extension cord, and the outside outlet. >> reporter: when the man who we now know is from peabody saw himself on the news, people he knew recognized him

vermont who continues to rob banks while he is on the run. matthew martin is wanted on bank robberies in new hampshire and vermont. he showed a gun during the rob ris. to be armed and dangerous. and officials make a big bust representative. u.s. marshals seized more than a million dollars in small bundles of cash. apparently, hidden inside several safe deposit boxes, controlled by john george. see here, just filled up to the brim with cash. the former dartmouth selectman was convicted and sentenced on federal embezzlement charges earlier this year. he stole money from a bus company he controlled. >> sarah: a man from warren in jail for christmas after police make a dangerous discovery in his home. police say he had more than one hundred guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition. court paperwork says he was making threatening comments against police. a firearms record check discovered he didn't have a

ui conviction. he never turned the weapons over as ordered. court paperwork also says he has a history of arrest and making threats. he suffers from ptsz. his lawyer says he has been collecting guns since he was a teenager. and many of them are antiques. his girlfriend doesn't believe he is a danger. guns because he is a dangerous nut. look like. >> he is a veteran. he is a good kid. >> sarah: he is being held without bail. he will be back in court on tuesday. >> christa: a muslim family from london say they were stopped from traveling here to the u.s. for their dream vacation. all because of their religion. however, u.s. customs officials are offering a different explanation for this. the happiest it was supposed to be a holiday dream at disney that ended much differently. mohammad, his brother and nine kids were all ready to fly from london to los

they had checked their luggage and had their boarding passes. then came the news. their vie sass approved six week ago were suddenly revoked. >> they were heartbroken. they had tears in their eyes. that is something for them. they were planning this for months. they had the countdown on their phone. >> this comes after the west coast terror attacks. and this statement from donald trump. >> a total and complete shutdown of muslims entering the united states. >> christa: customs wouldn't comment on the case, saying only the religion, faith or spiritual beliefs of an international traveler are not determining factors about his or her admissibility to the u.s. under u.s. immigration law, there are several reasons for denying entry. mohammad says he saved money for months to pay for the flights. costing $16,000. >> i'm devastated. because i'm a law-abiding citizen. i treat everybody equal. why does this happen to me and my family?
