nowrn 7 news at 6:00 starts now. >> another warm day in the city. but this might be the week to break out your winter jackets and, yes, maybe even a shovel. >> oh, so get ready for an after- >> chris: cooldown. and something we haven't seen this year, snow. chris lambert. forecast. tuesday morning looks like the timeframe we'll have the messiest weather on hand. 46 in norwood. even a couple of showers working in from the west this evening. perhaps some scattered showers this evening and then a steady rain overnight tonight, as this rain from ohio starts to work on in south of new england this. isn't the storm system yet that morning. we need the cold air first and

central canada. look at winnipeg right now minus 6. an area of high pressure will supply the cold air on monday, monday night into early tuesday. what we're watching is this area of low pressure that's going to be tracking into new england from the southwest. not going to be coastal, though. we'll get an on shore wind that develops and that will change it along to wind over to sleet inland as some warmer air you can about 10,000 feet up, 5,000 feet up starts to work on in. so i don't expect a tremendous amount of show with this. but we do have to keep in dhargs this is the first event for us with snow and ice, widespread across the area. and i do expect a mess where -- messy slow morning commute. 1:00 until 4:00 in the morning on tuesday, changing over to sleet between about 7 7:00 and 11:00 a.m. sleet to rain there. and i do expect just rain by the evening commute. snow totals a coating to a couple inches.

>> reporter: mark le now at a hospital and he's facing serious criminal charges, including bag disorderly person, discharging a weapon within a neighborhood. reports of gunfire in the neighborhood. the man barricaded himself in the home, only coming out once to yell at police and telling 7 news he was innocent. [bleep] i hurt no one. i said nothing to anyone. they came into my house illegally. i didn't shoot anybody. >> reporter: the 53-year-old didn't come out again, until his house accidentally went up into flames. we've learned this afternoon that the cause of that fire was accidental. it was a culmination of things from the clutter inside the home to gas and a snow blower located also inside of the home.

in everett tonight, kelly o'hara, 7 news. a holiday tragedy in milford. a couple found dead in their home from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning. two others rushed to the hospital. >> right now john is live with what we're learning about this investigation. john? >> reporter: well, the neighbor just told us that the two people taken to the hospital have since been released. they're now in a hotel. meanwhile, this building is still condemned. neighbors say no one had heard from the couple all christmas morning. just before 1:00 in the afternoon, the man and woman who live in the apartment on the right, were both found dead in their bed. the two people who live in the adjacent apartment in the same home were rushed to the hop. >> it's sad. very sad about both of them. >> reporter: when milford police and fire arrived to the home in the prospect heights neighborhood, they found elevated levels of carbon monoxide inside the house. police tell 7 news faulty burner in the basement is likely to

state police now leading the investigation and the board of health deemed these two apartments uninhabitable. >> a lot of people coming in and saying they smelled gas. i don't know. herb everybody is scared. >> reporter: the leak is believed to have originated on the right of the basement. the deadly, odorless gas seeped in both sides. police say the people living on the left side kept their windows open overnight, because it was so warm. and that's what might have saved their lives. as of right now, this investigation is still continuing. live in milford tonight, john cocoa, 7 news. stopped in the act. police respond to calls of a christmas home invasion on east boston. officers found three men in the home on saratoga street armed with a baseball bat and a knife. the men were arrested and are expected to face a judge on monday. it was a christmas miracle for this cape cod raccoon. look at those eyes. firefighters rescued from a storm drain yesterday.

on the southwest side destroying a handful of homes, leaving four with minor injuries. >> you take cover. take cover. >> reporter: the ef-2 twister packed winds up to 130 miles an hour, but everyone survived. the system also brought torrential rain, more than 6 inches in some birmingham suburbs, dozens of people had to be rescued from the flash floods. the state's governor said nearly 200 roads throughout alabama were closed because of flooding and downed trees. the christmas day storms part of the system that left 15 dead across the south. a pattern of unusual december weather, which spawned wildfires in ventura county, california, engulfing 1200 acres. >> it was pushed by heavy, strong north winds about 50 miles an hour. the fire quickly grew in size. >> reporter: snow finally began to fly in minneapolis overnight. the twin cities had been enjoying an unusually mild winter so far this year. but much of the east the warmth persists.

the boston police department making a christmas wish come true. sarah jenson got to meet the police department's new k-9 in training, vigo. the puppy and sarah's late father share the same name. she got the idea from her 96-year-old mother, who lives in michigan and vigo's really growing. i was fortunate enough to do the story when they first got him as pup. he was tiny. >> the vest on and everything, right. pretty cute. >> he's really growing there. >> good to see them reunite in a way, right. >> chris, we were looking at pretty amazing temperatures on

well. but things are cooling off. >> we were close to 70 on christmas eve and now we're talking about snow and ice in the forecast. it's new england. what else examine expect but the roller coaster ride. still above average for this time of year. 45 in worcester as well. most of the day in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees, which is running 10 degrees above the average. the winds on shore in the city of boston and it's calm the further north and west you go. with very little wind tonight, i do expect fog to form and we have a few light showers to track at this time out through fitchburg, much of worcester and light showers at this time. most of the steadier rain waiting until after midnight tonight that rainfall moving overnight tonight and very early tomorrow morning. morning. late morning into the afternoon tomorrow, we catch quite a few dry breaks in here. even mid-morning.

during the day tomorrow. but i can't rule out a kowl of lingering showers in the afternoon. afternoon, early in the evening hours as the cold front will arrive and push on through. so areas of fog tonight and we also have low temperatures above the freezing mark. range. those showers first thing in the morning and then again a couple more scattered showers late. temperatures in southern new hampshire upper 40s to near 50 degrees. but meanwhile, south of the mass pike will be mid-50s to near 60, including the city of boston. in boston. where is is the cold weather? back through the great lakes, 31 degrees in the twin cities and it's below zero in portions of southern canada. that's the cold air that's going to be pressing in. tuesday? right now it's down through el paso, this is going to carve its path through texas and then work up to the north and to the east. storm. so as it approaches us from the southwest, it's going to try to

that milder air has an easier time arriving, 5,000 to 10,000 feet up before it reaches the surface. i expect initially tuesday morning, early in the morning, to get a burst of snow. that burst of snow will transition to sleet. and then over to rainfall, all of us by tuesday afternoon. in terms of snowfall amounts, and what's going on, perhaps near the coastline and then south of the mass pike, a coating to a couple inches of snow before the transition over to some sleet and some rain. you get out to worcester, we may catch a few inches of snow before transitioning to sleet, freezing rain and then over to rain. and then you get across merrimack valley, north and west, back through southern new hampshire, several inches of snow likely. so not a tremendous total in terms of the big snowstorms we've seen last year. but it's going to be a messy mix tuesday morning. so keep that in mind. kiddos home from school anyway. it may slow down the morning commute. guys? >> announcer: and now time for 7 sports. >> before getting down to business on sunday in new york, the patriots taking care of some business off the field.
