we begin now with our am 7 coverage in the weather center with jerk he riper standing by . here you g.this is the winter weather advisory in effect for late tonight and tomorrow morning for a hodgepodge of snow, sleet, freezing rain and plain old rain later tomorrow morning leading to poor travel. very late tonight and more likely during the morning commute tomorrow. for those of you that have a commute thankfully the kids don't have school so perhaps a lot of you off as questionp here is the storm system right here again just now showing itself back through new york and pennsylvania. it's on the move. still has a few hours to about before it bothers us and it also does have some warm air. it is cold right now, the warm air is going to try to come back into new england and this go around unlike the last several storms we've seen in december the cold air is going to hang tough. it will hang through interior new england, the city right now at 30 degrees, north at 41, burlington at 17. had the cold air come in a little bit deeper and stronger then we wouldn't have a ken

a.m. tomorrow morning we have patches of snow breaking out at that time. i don't think we'll have a wall of snow just yet. for some of you, you never will have that wall of snow of here you go back through the mass connect border already showing the sleet and freezing rain in this pink ribbon right here and so this slowly moves north during tomorrow morning's commute so it is going continue a slow go tomorrow morning with a mix of snow and sleet and then eventually freezing rain and this pink shading but that takes several hours even by 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. at that time i think it's just some sleet and rain in the city of boston, more so on the south shore but metrowest 128, 495, merrimac valley, route 2 corridor for sure, 95 north into new hampshire is tough with the sleet and the freezing rain then brief shot of heavy rainfall but farther inland it will be sleet an freezing rain that will wind down tomorrow afternoon as drizzle and freezing drizzle and even into the city of boston tomorrow evening there may be pockets of freezing drizzle late tomorrow evening. how much snow?

coating to an inch in the city of boston. that does get washed away because of the rain through the midday hours tomorrow. farther west worcester fitchburg nashua westford billerica talking one to three inches of snow then sleet on top of that as well as some freezing rain about a tenth of an inch of ice then farther north new hampshire three to four inches of snow and sleet that will also transition over to freezing rain. to are more on the storm here is chris lambert. >> reporter: good afternoon, everyone. so another tremendous amount of snow but we'll have several hours of sleet tomorrow morning during the morning commute. want to take a look at the temperatures 7:00 in the morning you notice that 34 degrees above freezing in boston it's not going to take long to go above the freezing mark along the coastline and into the city of boston. the reason for that, that east wind copping in off those warm ocean temperatures. different story 128 westbound, still well question low freezing at the ground and then you take a look at 10:00 a.m. we are reigning in the city of boston at 37 degrees but still cold enough for sleet and freezing rain the farther up land you go
4:33 pm
north and west out through 495 may get close to freezing out into worcester county up into the per in a macvalley by mid afternoon and we're in the lower 40's if not mid 40's along the cove line down through the cape and islands so that all plays into eforget on what we see in term of road conditions out there as well, especially the secondary roads being the most hazardous there. so you travel near 128 toward the coastline, i would say the first several hours of the morning through most of the morning commute that could be slippery spots with the snow in the sleet but even in the city of boston by 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 in the morning probably mainly wet roads thanks to a transition transitioning to rain and going above the freezing mark and we'll maintain that throughout the afternoon. now this is a travel map for out near 495 up into the merrimac valley. we hold on to poor conditions longer in the game here because i do expect not only morning snow but also sleet for several hours through mid morning and then going over to freezing rain so we may have issues on the

>> anchor: you have to be are reader for for type of storm . >> anchor: jr was just thinking we need to rethink all of those definitions, sleet, freezing rain, what's the ditches, what's coming, when, oh no . >> reporter: a headache and nuisance. we'll break it down for you that few moments. this was a cool picture just moments ago up number dracut area and he snapped these. there is the setting sun. see that right there and there? sun dogs. bark lick a sun dog. they are just guarding the sun as it goes through slicing through clouds. that's why sunlight is bent in such a way you get that re refraction similar it a rain effect effect. thank you for that picture very cool. the month of december very warm, should easily go into the books as the warmest december on record. we're offering 12 degrees before normal for this time of year. weave thought you get in a warm december, what does that mean for the winter in terms of snow?
4:46 pm
warmest december, 2006, 2001 they came up well short of a normal oner it of 44 inches, where do we go from here? hard to say exactly obviously. but we have a little bit of snow on the way only tonight and into tomorrow morning. messy mix heading this way. breaking out as snow between 1:00 and 3:00 a.m., patchy, light snow at that time and steadier snow then sleet takes over about 6:00, 7:00 then over to sleet and freeing rain mid morning and then it will wind dunn as plain old rain and drizzle through the afternoon hours tomorrow. so your winter precipitation including the city is brief because we'll have warm air coming in upstairs and then we'll have warm air coming off the ocean. that ocean again committee wallace well. so really it's tough to really advertise anything other than a little bit of snow in the city of boston because it will go over to sleet and rain quickly about 7:00 tomorrow morning. farther inland that warmer air coming from the ocean starts to run out of time much like when you watch the ocean wave break up on beach it kind of runs out

that's what will happen here that warmer air so i think you will have snow to sleet then at the very end rain then out in this blue shading a mixture of sun and sleet for most much of the morning then that will wind down as freezing drizzle fitchburg and townsend and up toward ayer and up into keane, new hampshire and nashua and westford and lawrence and those locations where the cold air will linger the longest here is where the storm is at this tile this evening. it's going to dry to bring warm i back into new england. it's a slow process this go an the the other storms wheel we've had this month have been easy pezzy rainstorm but this is a challenge. here you go. here is that mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain. i think the height of the storm is tomorrow morning unfortunately during the morning commute from about 6:00 a.m. until about 10:00 or 11:00 tomorrow morning and then after that we'll still have precipitation going on midday but for most of us it's rain. certainly the city of boston it will be plain rain by mid morning and then it winds down as drizzle anfreezing drizzle tomorrow.
4:48 pm
coating to an inch then washed away boston south shore just inland say 95 out those location locations west one to three inches of snow with a little bit of sleet abfreezing rain on top of that then up across southern new hampshire 3 oh five inches of snow. a heavier, wetter snow, certainly more than we have dealt with at any time last winter and that epic winter. that was all cold, fluffy snow. your 7 on 7 forecast dry for the remainder of the holiday weekend including new year's eve this tile. right around 32. >> anchor: we'll see you later on today, jr. let's got a check of the drive home. >> anchor: thanks very much and southbound on, way we go the traffic leaving the camera area those headlights and coming up toward the area of granite avenue dealing with some minor roadway. so not moving too badly northbound a little tight going in dorchester, southbound a bit slow going in braintree so not moving too badly there. downtown route 93 northbound dealing with break lights as well up past the zakim bridge this all stays very heavily
4:49 pm
and in fact it stays very slow going etty much right to route 128. you can see the red line through the stoneham area, 128 northbound has been tough too from burlington right up through wakefield. . >> anchor: in today's "healthcast" autism awareness. transitions from adolescents spectrum can be difficult . >> anchor: for many, starting college can add to that pressure pressure. sara french has more. college life. but for those on the autism spectrum, this social scene can be challenging. i was feeling lonely . >> anchor: 25-year-old jerry has autism, but is high functioning. he says he has always had trouble making and keeping friends. along with his regular classes, joey is involved in a program to help his social skills. initial greating and maintaining a conversation, planning get together . >> anchor: republicers at ucla
