morning untreated surfaces wl get slick with some icy spots out there. we are below freezing in boston at 30, 31 in orange. a lot of those driveways and sidewalks though still locked into the ice. that form last night once the temperatures did fall. the radar right now looks quiet, but the low-level moisture almost goes under the radar. so we've had some areas of freezing fog and some very fine patchy mist has been freezing on contact. i do expect a better chance of showers to develop late this evening and close to midnight tonight. as showers break out and develop across pennsylvania and upstate new york and work into southern new england. patchy freezing drizzle and mist for a few showers and after 9:00, 10:00, we'll get steadier showers in here and that may fall in the form of freezing

morning. i'll have more on the forecast straight ahead. >> all right, this is bill cosby's must shot released in the last hour or so. this is the case brought against comedian after sexual assault charges were charged earlier this year. he is charged with aggravated indecent assault stemming from an incident back in 2004 involving a temple university employee but tonight attorneys say the case is not justified and vigorously will defend the comedian's name. >> reporter: he was once a wildly popular comedian but bill cosby's stage wednesday was a courtroom near philadelphia for arraignment on a charge filed earlier in the day of sexual assaulting a woman. >> there is one charge that is filed?

involves an employee who cosby invited into his foster home home back in 2004. >> on the evening in question, mr. cosby urged her to take pills that he provided to her and to drink wine. the effect of which rendered her unable to remove or respond to his advances and he committed aggravated indecent assault upon her. >> reporter: andrea constand previously came forward as the alleged victim in a civil suit and through her attorneys expressed appreciation to pennsylvania authorities for finally charging cosby. she's one of more than 50 women who say they were drugged and or sexually assaulted by cosby and who, according to legal analysts, could be called to testify against him. >> the game changer sheer that bill cosby may very well have to hear not only the victim in this case, but the testimony of all of the other alleged victims with a similar m.o. talk to him in court and have their moment against him in a criminal setting.

passed a car on icy route 16 in wakefield, new hampshire tuesday night. >> he crossed over the double yellow line and entered into the southbound lane colliding with the ford taurus. all of the federal employees were wearing seat belts but have serious injuries and are in the hospital. it's believed they just come from surveying a campaign fight in berlin. >> they were working as part of the protectionests for secretary clinton. >> reporter: presidential candidate hillary clinton released a statement saying my husband and i send our prayers and condolences to all the victims and their families. we are grateful every day for the service, dedication and professionalism of the u.s. secret service. meantime, danforth's passengers, his girlfriend natasha and friend chris buswell are also hospitalized. police say danforth has a long criminal history including drug offenses and a autopsy on his body was done this morning. >> we have arrested him.

and just generally we're familiar with him. >> and police tell us hillary clinton's motorcade actually passed through the crash scene some five hours after the collision occurred. reporting live from wakefield, new hampshire, kimberly bookman, a boston police officer is injured when a cruiser is involved in an accident near brighton. and you can see the cruiser at the front, it's banged up. hospital. also breaking tonight, the mayor of brufs announcing that the city's new year's eve fireworks display is canceled, all because of a terrorist threat from extremists. two people were arrested yesterday and officials say they were planning to attack high-profile sites around the city during the holiday. police have also arrested two men in turkey who they believe were planning suicide attacks during new year's celebration there is. they found suicide vests, a backpack explosive and other bomb making equipment. police also discover what they call an isis safehouse. both suspects are turkish

spent time in syria. back here in boston, officials putting safety first for first night. security will be tight, as you can imagine. so if you're out and about, you can expect to see an increase in police presence. susan tran live in boston now to tell us more. susan. >> adam, the preparations for first night well underway. you can see a fan favorite to the ice sculpture being created right here at copley square. and while this work is going on, the boston police commissioner says they have a clear plan about the safety concerns and the security plans. now, he says they will have utilizing officers on site and plain clothes officers as well. he also emphasized that there are no threats, no threats leading up to first night this year. he says boston police is working in contact with new york police department and the fbi, and he only has one thing that he is encouraging folks to do. that's to leave backpacks and coolers, if they can, leave they

something, say something. >> we'll have plenty of officers out there, bomb dogs, everything possible but i'm always a little wary of having an overpresence that we intimidate people. there's a lot of undercover officers out there, there's a lot of assets hidden away. but, you know, i'm very confident but i always encourage the public, like any event, if they see something out of the ordinary they have to say something. >> so in will definitely be police presence in the area as folks are enjoying all of these festivities, but the commissioner wanted to make sure that no one is intimidated, as he says, of too much police presence but encourages everyone to come out. the festivities, there is a parade at 6:00, fireworks at 7:00 and midnight, and the mbta wants to let everyone know again, t service is free after 8:00 tomorrow. live in copley square, susan tran, 7news. the winter classic just days away. gillette stadium is iced over now. crews have been preparing the rink for more than a week now.

probation for killing four people in a drunk driving crash. his lawyers argued that couch couldn't tell right from wrong because of his privileged upbringing. now couch and his mother face jail time. in a race for the white house now, donald trump says he is going to step up advertising for his campaign. the republican presidential candidate says he is going to start running more commercials in swing states like new hampshire and iowa. the tv ads will likely be about his plans for a border wall and fighting isis. trump says despite his big lead in the polls, he is not leaving anything to chance. >> i feel i should spend, and honestly i don't want to take any chances. >> he's wasted $4 million, not spent it. there's a big difference. >> trump has spent only $217,000 on commercial so far which is really a drop in the bucket. it's the least of any republican candidate. >> and still to come tonight, people in missouri in the midst of a very dangerous and historic flooding event. the military being called in.

the. >> the national guard being called up to deal with rising waters in missouri. torrential rains leaving homes and businesses underwater. this by the way is the same storm system that killed dozens and gave the northeast its first taste of winter. more than 18 million americans dealing with potentially historic flooding. >> roads have been shut down and more rain is making it difficult to dry out. many cases sandbags are just not enough to hold back water.

there. here's the temperatures... for us, when are we gonna break out the subfreezing temperatures? a lot of us think it will be by tomorrow, certainly by the afternoon. but it does fall below freezing for several hours this evening. you notice the visibilities one mile or less for many towns close to boston and just to the south and west of boston. there's a lot of low-level moisture trapped in the lowest 500,000 feet of the atmosphere we have had patch fog out there so far. we have freezing rain advisory essentially from boston to braintree points north and west until 3:00 in the morning. expecting freezing drizzle and freezing rain and any untreated surfaces. the ice will glaze over and certainly will need the ice

morning and in the evening. the radar is quiet but we have a patchy freezing mess out there at this time. take a look to the west of us, upstate new york to pennsylvania, some showers -blossoming. there will be steadier shower activity that works in tonight. most of this after about 9:00 or 10:00 tonight and if temperatures are still below freezing, which they will be especially north and west of boston, it will fall as a period of some freezing rain so we'll have to keep that in mind, as well. and i think the shower activity tapers off fairly quickly tomorrow. could have lingering showers until 7:00, 8:00 in the morning and then that's it. what's also important is the warmer air to the west of us. buffalo down to pittsburgh. that will work in tomorrow and if we can get the wind this here and mix up the atmosphere and scour out that cold, the numbers will jump, and pretty confident they're going to jump tomorrow. today was a tough day, though. couldn't do much picking out there with this atmosphere, this cold dense air in place. different story tomorrow, watch what happens from the morning
