directions here. you see the scene behind me. it is a messy one. massachusetts state police say route one should be shut down for possibly a couple o'hours as they work to clean all of this up. you see this car hit a utility pole. it snapped it and pulled the wires down on to the roads. 10,000 volts are running through those wires. the power has been cut at this point. it was a very precarious scene earlier this morning. this was a two-car accident, actually. route one on the southbound side here. she decided she was going to turn into this car-wash here on route one. driver who hit the utility pole, forcing her off of the road and into the pole. she was not seriously injured. people here at the car-wash were in a panic. that woman was in the car. the pole, the wires and trchlers were on her car. the owner of the car-wash says the driver got out on her own. >> i was really nervous.

these numbers colder than they were this morning. cold air continues to push southbound. some snowflakes out there. the radar, a little bit overdone with. this patchy light snow and flurries out there. some of it drying up in the dry air. we have some flakes reaching the ground north and west of boston. back to the 495 belt. perhaps a dusting of snow in a few towns. some heavier spots of snow back to the blackstone valley. northwestern rhode island. here is where i expect some heavier squalls to continue to develop. just off-shore. you can see this pencil-thin line here stretching all the way down the southeastern coast of massachusetts. that is backing. in heads up, scituate, marshfield. all of that stretch, p and 3 after a. overnight tonight and into tomorrow morning, i would expect most squalls to be close to the coastline, if not over the cape and the islands. we could get pockets of snow and pick up on. that even when you get a quick inch of snow down through

with the squalls coming in, it reduces visibility. you get some blowing and drifting around. you get some slippery spots. we have to keep an eye on and this evening. for the snow showers and squalls to move on through. look at the temperature trend. it is down by early evening. we are into the upper teens. single digits overnight tonight. more on the forecast ahead. >> a hudson man accused of attacking a milford police officer now facing attempted murder charges. he allegedly punched, bit, choked this officer. the struggle leaving that police say the officer tried to stop that man from lunging at a passing car. the officer was rushed to the hospital and treated for several injuries. man facing a judge in wrentham. he is accused of bringing an ars nat of weapons to the parking lot outside gillette stadium during the winter classic on new year's day. police found an assortment of swords, knives, and even a stun gun inside his car. the dangerous discovery made

>> well, police say this isn't this man's first run-in with the law el they are. on this arraignment today. nicole? >> reporter: what we didn't learn is if this man had any intention of using any weapons that police say they found according to investigators, they say matthew bromson of connecticut was drunk. and he had parked his car in an employee parking lot at gillette stadium with he should not have been. it was bus drivers that say they noticed some irrational eventually, police searched his car. in his car, they found items such as a sword, a stun gun, a weapons. now, what alerted these bus drivers to this weird behavior, he was going around putting strange items on people's like paint brushes. tools and wd-40. cars. he had made threatening statements and a gesture

he then asked... there were multiple items that had been placed on car windshields. the defense stated to me, "i did it because i'm just like santa claus." >> reporter: police said they could smell alcohol on his breath. he allegedly blew a klfer .12 blood alcohol reading. he is being held on several charges, including fugitive from justice charges in connecticut where he is accused of assault and battery on a police officer. we are live from wrentham, nicole oliverio, 7 news. >> a 21-year-old woman accused of abducting a toddler will be in court again. abigail hannah is accused of taking a two-year-old from her home back in november. she was ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation. the everett man accused of violently attacking a boston police officer will be arraigned as well.

23-year-old andrew bowman approached an officer near city hall on new year's day. that is when they say he repeatedly punched this officer in the face. the officer was not seriously injured. >> more news today: a man injured after an overnight stabbing in barre. the victim ran nearly a mile until someone heard him screaming for help and called 911. a suspect was arrested a short time later. a lawrence man set to face charges after he allegedly drove away from a traffic stop. dragging the trooper. it happened on 93 south in medford. the trooper was pulled a short distance before pulling himself free from the car. he was not hurt and then chased after the man. another trooper arrested the suspect in everett. >> a developing story out of oregon now. anti-government actry iss take over a government compound. there they are protesting the arrest of two local ranchers. the demonstrators are occupying a wildlife reserve and federal building there and they are standing their

we had such an easy december. a lyle bit of light snow. fluffy snowflakes. a lot easier to take than that constant sleet we had. numbers have gone since this morning. 21 in worcester. 23 in nashua, new hampshire. fvrbs mid-30's across parts of the cape. when you get a snow shower to roll on through, temperatures dip below the freezing mark. wind out of the north, northwest. that is ushering in the cold air. you factor in the wind. windchill factor, it is cold outside. feels like 13 in the city of boston. feels like 9 in jaffrey, new hampshire. the breeze will be steady this evening. we do contend with the cold windchill overnight tonight and dropping temperatures. a couple of snowflakes out there in natick. the bark is worse than the bite here on the radar. the atmosphere is dry. snow coming down. we have some patchy light snow stretching from the north shore. close to the city of boston. up into the merrimack valley and down 495. back toward hopkinton, natick, framingham.

some steady snow has been dealt back to the blackstone valley. and locations south of the mass. pike. we have picked up a coating of snow at times through the morning hours. these are heavier squalls, trying to back in from the west. they will continue to do so near the coastline. in fact, expecting more snow showers and squalls down through the cape over to nantucket as we go through the later afternoon hours. tonight and tomorrow. so winter weather advisory is in place down there for the snow showers and squalls. temperatures dropping as we go through this afternoon. look at the lows tonight. back into the ingle digits and lower teens. here are the windchill factors going below zero tonight. now, this is cold air. but mainly dry air for a lot of us through tomorrow. late week, that could change for a busy storm track, more on that over with danielle. >> danielle: thanks, chris.

jennifer eagan is on the scene with the breaking details. >> reporter: well, sarah, they are trying to figure out how they are going to move this pole and all the wires. this is route one by 128. and you can see it is quite the transformer, the pole down on top of that car. the northbound and the southbound side right now. massachusetts state police say it could take hours to clean this up. that car hit the utility pole. it snapped and pulled the wires down on to the road. the power has been cut. at this point. this was actually, a two-car accident. woman was driving along route one south. she decided she was going to turn into a car car-wash. she pulled in front of this other driver, forcing her off the road and into the pole. now, the driver of the car that the pole was not seriously injured. but people here at the car-wash who witnessed it all, they were in a panic. chef in the car. the pole, the wires and

we are tracking some snow on the radar. much of it light from boston north and west here. some patchy light snow and flurries. a dusting of snow in a few towns. through the next hour or two. west of the city of boston, from gloucester, we are beginning to see some ocean-effect snow showers and squalls. from cape ann, stretching down to just off the coastline of scituate, you notice some heavier squalls. once this works on-shore, you get some bursts of heavy snow and some gusty winds across route 3-a here. close to cohasset. over to hingham, norwell. marshfield. heading down toward scituate as well. we will watch some of those bands backing in. we will watch out for some slick travel in spots this afternoon right along the

west of the city of boston, much of this is light snow and coating in a few spots. nast should be about it. more on the forecast and when we will finally warm back up ahead, guys. >> kris: a suspect accused of shooting a teenager in everett. according to the district attorney's office, this 19-year-old was shot on a bike path early sunday morning. he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. >> sarah: a serious crash in fitchburg on new year's eve. family members say the two little boys injured in the crash are in stable condition this morning. the 7-year-old fractured his leg and will need more surgery. the six-year-old was also hurt in the crash. the 32-year-old man who lost his leg remains in critical condition. >> kris: "boston globe" newspaper trucks headed out experiencing delivery problems last week. it was all hands on deck as "globe" employees sunday worked to get these papers delivered after many of them worked through the night, getting those papers to their customers.

>> sarah: welcome back. 12:44. the temperatures have kept dropping today. >> kris:. it is like the roller-coaster. plunging down. >> sarah: when is it going to come back up? that is what i want to know. >> chris: we will reach the bottom tomorrow morning. we will rise back up through much of the week. satellite and radar featuring snow out there. even in the city of boston, some snowflakes flying. not terribly heavy. but there is enough to give you a duhing of snow in some towns. you notice boston out through bill rickca, sudbury, back to dover, this is where we have some steadier flurries ongoing. even some steadier snow from cape ann, this stretch. this is ocean-enhanced snow squall activity. just offshore. beginning to come ashore here.

scituate, marshfield. perhaps cohasset, seeing heavier squalls rolling. in right along the coastline. within the next hour or so. i think for the most part, one to three inches across the cape. isolated higher amount not out of the realm of possibility. this goes until tomorrow morning. from boston north and west, not much more than a coating of snow. as much of the northerly wind and the arctic air passing over the really warm waters will be focused on the plymouth county coastline down through the cape and the islands. as we go through the next 24 hours. tomorrow afternoon, that will lose its steam. much of the snow shower activity and squall activity only through the morning hours. look at the temperature. a very was mentioning going down 25 in boston right now. we started off the day just after midnight tonight. last night at 35. so early this morning, the high temperature officially in the city of boston, these numbers will continue to slide into the low 20's this afternoon.

squalls. again, most of them close to the coastline. in terms of the heavier squalls this afternoon. low temperatures tonight, 11 degrees in the city of boston. the cold els we have seen since the morning of march 6. it's been about ten months. we certainly had plenty of cold last winter. single digits, expecting that as we go through much of metro-west. we have the cold air and a breeze tonight. that will knock the windchill factors back below zero for a lot of us. we have the cold air here in new england. for what's going on across the rest of the country. over to danielle. >> danielle: thanks, chris. fast series of storms brewing in the guff p gulf of alaska. this is very typical for the el nino set-up. a lot of rain and snow through the next week really. i want to talk about el nino

in the past, el nino winters have brought us january snowfall below average. in all years except for one. in 1965. now, all of them have brought our seasonal snowfall averages to right around average or below average. just some food for thought. right now, it is definitely cold out there with some snow. right, chris? >> chris: that's right, danielle. some heavier snow showers and squalls close to the coastline. overall, by tomorrow, that will wind down. especially down across the cape. a few snow showers lingering into the morning. 20's to near 30 tomorrow. a lot of us are hard-pressed to get much above the mid-20's. quiet through the rest of the workweek. temperatures turning into the low 40's. as early as wednesday. we track the next storm system over the weekend. right now looks marginal for cold air. we will call it rain along the coastline. perhaps some deep inland snow. especially across the higher terrain.

>> sarah: netflix giving viewers some options. >> kris: netflix will debut 13 new original series this year. that is on top of the 17 favorites they will continue to air. a few new ones, according to hollywood.com are a reboot of degrassy and lemony snickets. >> sarah: jordan smith announced he is engaged. his fiancee flashed her new engagement ring in the boston public garden. the couple was in the hub after smith sang the national anthem at winter classic on new year's day at gillette stadium.

a documentary about prince charles tonight promise to have an unguarded view of the prince of wales as he prepares for the organization's 40th anniversary. his sons make candid appearance. >> i never used to really kind of worry about things. but now you get affected by things that happen around the world or whatever a lot more as a father. >> kris: the prince's trust has helped hundreds of thousands of disadvantaged young people receive an education and find them jobs by giving them loans and mentoring them. >> sarah: star wars continuing its box office domination. it raked in more than $88 million this weekend to bring the total to $740 million since its release. right now, the new star wars is the second highest grossing film. it could bump avatar from the top spot as early as today. >> kris: printing money.

right? >> kris: it may be a good day to stay indoors. >> chris: bust out the heavy jacket. right? we track the flurries and patchy light snow in the city of boston. through much of metro-west. you look east here. heavier snow squalls off the ocean. about to land in scituate. over toward marshfield. you can briefly reduce the visibility and get some slippery spots on the road. keep that in mind. close to the coastline. best chance of picking up an inch or two of snow with these squalls. especially on the cape and the islands tonight and early tomorrow morning. single digits to lower teens tonight. back into low 40's wednesday. perhaps some rain and snow arrive this weekend. >> sarah: all right. thanks, >> chris:.
