wheeler with his dad. i've taken him out. they have a been out at night. >> reporter: both boys were injured badly. ashley's son has a compound fracture to his leg. his friend has a severe head injury. so bad when rescuers got to him he wasn't breathing. one of the boy's fathers lost a leg. >> has another surgery to go through tomorrow. we're hoping for the best. praying for the best. >> reporter: police are investigating how this accident happened. but the families are focused on prayer and the recovery in order to bring their boys home. >> people have their own thoughts about what happened but at the end of the day that was an accident. okay. these adults loved these two kids and no one way meant to put them in harm's way. it was a horrific accident they're going to have to live with for the rest of their life. >> reporter: there was another man injured in the accident. but he has been released from the hospital. that 7-year-old had his
