that busy highway this time of day. now, the driver not hurt. that's the good news here. >> and as i just mentioned there, the scene causing mild delays. so what is it like right now, here's seven traffic's joe stapleton. >> yeah. right now dealing with the seven and a half mile back-up along route 25 southbound. traffic is very heavily congested from just about exit 20 and route 85 in milford all the way back beyond route 9 and barely moving at that. along route 495 northbound we had some earlier problems there with the smoke blowing across the highway. that has dissipated obviously with the truck fire now being doused out in the ride along route 495, not affected but you see all the headlights and brake route 9. joe stapleton, 7news. and more trouble on the roads this evening. we have sky 7 hd over a rollover

there's the tractor/trailer that unloaded its entire load of plywood. the exit ramp still closed while crews work on cleaning things up. and again, no one hurt. also on 7, a fire fight in saugus when a house goes up in flames. a massive blaze forcing fires to think fast and the family inside the home made it out safely. >> thanks to firefighters, and we have learned that three firefighters are recovering from minor injuries of their own. cause of the fire unknown. and authorities are still there looking for clues. 7's jonathan hall is live in saugus as well, what's the latest? still very busy, it looks like. >> they are. more than 12 hours after the fire we can still smell the smoldering rubble. this thing was quite ablaze this morning. the home packed full of belong kings and it moved quickly, made for a difficult and dangerous rescue for the firemen and paved the way for her oh, i moments. >> reporter: the fire near route 1 in saugus spread quickly.

were on the scene when it got dangerous. >> a saugus inland crew, three men overcome by the heavy black smoke and against heat. the malden firefighter gregory gene heard the pounding and saw the hand. >> i said give me a hand, brother. he grabbed my hand and started pulling them out. >> reporter: safe, the two men hugged. the saugus fireman told gene you saved my life. it was a moment they'll never forget. >> we turned around and said that guy saved my life and pulled me out of the window. >> i don't want to think about what would have happened. >> reporter: and two other guys

trapped inside. >> there quantity anyone else so we were able to get there. >> i would say the firefighters on scene definitely saved the lives of my men. >> this fire on essex street started in the basement and three women made it out on their own after waking to a loud noise after an explosion. one in their 80s. >> safe and warm, in a warm place right now. >> brother, give me your hand. more welcome words have never been spoken, perhaps. the three firefighters suffered just minor injuries. one of them does have burns to his neck and ears. live tonight in saugus, i'm jonathan hall, 7news. we turn now to a developing story overseas. north korea making an alarming announcement claiming it detonated its first hydrogen bomb. officials stay would be a dangerous and disturbing threat to that region if true. >> tim caputo joins us now with

>> well, u.s. fishes are disputing the claim -- officials are disputing the claim that it was a hydrogen bomb. >> reporter: north koreans cheered after the president claimed it set off a hydrogen bomb. the international community is stunned but skeptical. >> looks like they tried to make an advance. they didn't get there but bragging about it as if they did. >> reporter: something big exploded at the north korea test site, a magnitude 5.1 seismic event was detected. the white house believes an h bomb would have had a bigger blast. >> the initial analysis that's been conducted of the events that were reported overnight is not consistent with north korean claims of a successful hydrogen bomb test. >> reporter: no other country is supporting the test or even happened. china is condemning condemning it. experts say by ordering the test, kim jong-un signaled he is developing an h bomb. >> even if this were not a

there intention. >> reporter: immediately it was agreed to toughen sanctions but nothing to keep the nation and dictator from building the word's most powerful weapons. the. >> this seriously underminds international non-party nation. i condemn it unequivocally. >> this was north korea's fourth nuclear test since 2006 and their first alleged h bomb. the last test was back in 2013 and that blast actually had a bigger explosive yield and subsequent earthquake than last night's and that's part of the reason many believe this wasn't an actual hydrogen bomb, tim caputo, 7news. and breaking news from washington d.c. they've been trying to do it for years but congress has finally sent legislation to president obama to repeal parts of the affordable care act, also known as barack obama kare. it sits on his desk but he's expected to veto it. lawmakers say they have fulfilled a promise to the

the white house. and we're following more news today here at home. a mother facing charges after leaving her baby out in the cold in a car in rentham. here's the 911 call from a witness. [ inaudible ] >> police say the mother left the eight month old alone in the car for 10 minutes to go into a store at rentham outlets last night, and they say the temperature inside the car was not even 20 degrees. >> any parent should know not to leave an 8-month-old unattended regardless of what country you're from. so i think it just was a bad judgment. >> the baby is said to be doing okay. the mother is facing child endangerment charges. >> the mother of baby doe is being held on $1 million bail. rachel bond pled not guilty in suffolk superior court today

murder of her 2-year-old daughter bella. she says that her boyfriend killed the little girl and she did not help in any way possible. >> she really loved her daughter and every witness that we have spoken to has said that she was a good mother. so this is extremely difficult for her. >> she also faces a new larceny charge and prosecutors say she accepted state aid. it took months for investigators to figure out who she was. police arrested her mother and her boyfriend, and michael mccarthy. mccarthy will be charged with murder in that case. a judge stepping aside from the death penalty retrial of gary ley sampson. judge mark wolf had overseen the death penalty trial for 15 years but now says because of the significant workload, he's going to step away from the case. sampson was sentenced to death for two carjackings and three

four years ago a federal judge overturned the death sentence after his attorneys argued he did not get an impartial jury. a boston police officer recovering this evening after a driver goes on a crash course right into a cruiser. you can see the damage there. this crash happening last night at the intersection of blue hill and woodrow avenues. boston police say the officer had to be transported to a hospital but had non-life-threatening injuries. >> the patriots in familiar territory as they wait for their next opponent but this time around they're recovering from a number of significant injuries including tom brady's ankle sprain. today he says he's on the mend. alex corddry is live with more on what he had to say. >> he has the most famous ankle in new england right now. tom brady walking around today without a noticeable limp and we saw him jogging out to the practice field. so all things look like they're

and friday cloudy skies. temperatures only in the mid- to upper 30s and pockets of drizzle through the day on friday and finally we will have to watch because that cold air, that can be kind of stubborn to move out of here, and so there may be a couple of pockets of freezing drizzle on and off through the day on friday as well as saturday night and sunday morning. but for most of us just patchy drizzle. again a weak area of low pressure. looks kind of like a zipper right here. it's a stretched-out area of low pressure but instead of turning a bunch of ls on that, a black dash line. and on sunday here is a red l. that will move west of new england and we're talking raindrops, not snowflakes. on monday, upper 40s but rains all day. -- on sunday, and once again sun back on monday.
