and homeland security heard testimony on a boston state rep's bill which would require imitation gun manufacturers to build at least a one inch bright orange strip into their products. >> the federally mandated strip on toy guns is not enough in today's world. >> reporter: representative danielle cull maine says he files the bill in response to the tragic death after 12-year-old boy in cleveland last november. tamir rice was shot by police as he held a fake gun. the officers confiscated 174 fake guns like these in 2015. >> we had someone pull a gun then someone actually shoot that person because they thought the gun was real so there is a lot of drama on the streets because of the fake guns. >> reporter: the mayor got a city ordnance passed which mans people from carrying imitation weapons in public. evans would like to see the state law follow suit. cull maine says he is --

cult maine says he is -- cull maine says he is open to it. >> reporter: the committee will make changes. the representatives hopes this comes to a vote sometime this year, jonathan hall, 7 news. >> jadiann: new at 4:30 a backhoe stuck in a sink hole in bedford shutting down wiggins avenue for the evening commute. backlow was responding to a water main break when it fell in a sink hole. traffic is being diverted. a pedestrian is being treated for serious injuries after being hit by a car in brighton. the accident happened last night. offices say this was not a hit-and-run and that the driver was also taken to hospital for minor injuries. the wind shield of the cash is smashed from the impact. >> ryan: we are learning more about the rescue of three firefighters who got trapped in a burning saugus home. they had to be pulled from the fire as the house went up in flames.

terrifying call for help. >> reporter: an urgent call for help from three saugus firefighters who were trapped inside this burning home. the fire spread quickly the firefighters found themselves surrounded by flames and thick smoke. one firefighter tripped, lost his helmet and was out of glare they blew air horns which means everybody out of the building. >> reporter: a malden firefighter saw a hand reach out for help. >> he broke the window, i seen his hand. i reached in and i said give me your hand, brother. he grabbed my hand and started pulling him out. >> reporter: two other firefighters were helped down the stairs. >> if we didn't grab them there wasn't anyone else coming in enough time so fortunately we're able to get to them. >> reporter: a woman in her 80s, her daughter and adult daughter were staying in the home and able to escape.

the family, and no ones with hurt. >> reporter: family says things can be replaced. people cannot. the saugus fire chief says he witnessed true heroes in action. >> i would say the firefighters on scene saved the lives of my men. >> i don't want to think about what would have happened if i didn't see his hand. >> reporter: the three firefighters who were trapped all suffered minor injuries. the house is a complete loss. it'll have to get torn down. the women who were in the house say they heard a boom shotly before the fire started. the fire chief in saugus has confirmed that the fire started in the basement. but he hasn't said what the exact cause is. in saugus, victoria warren, 7 news. >> ryan: crews on the scene of a house fire in dorchester. you can see flames coming out of the roof. investigators are searching for the cause of the fire mostly contained to the attic, no one was hurt jackets an officer charged in the freddie gray case filing an injunction to

trials of other police officers. a baltimore judge ordered officer william porter to testify in the case of his two colleagues. porter's lawyers say this violates his rights since it can't be garr teed what he said won't be used against him. porter is one of six officers charged in the death of freddie gray. a jury declared a mistrial in his case last month. residents of oregon venting their frustrations with the ongoing occupation of a national wildlife refuge. a group of protestors led by eamon bundy broke into the refuge on saturday. residents of the area say they want the protestors to leave. >> how many say this is a harney county do we have in here? -- citizens of harney county do we have in here, i'm going to ask how many people want to work this out

the folks to go home. >> reporter: members of an oregon indian tribe have expressed their frustration, they say the land being occupied belongs to their ancestors, a piece of an airplane falls from the sky. officials say a tail cone from a military plane bounced on to a woman's yard. the plane landed safely. no one was hurt. >> ryan: burglars driving a stolen truck through a store in dallas. police say five men got out of the car and tried to steal a safe. the man took off and they remain on the run. a bizzard kidnapping in oregon. a mother arrested after she reported her car was stolen with her baby inside but it turns out it was all a hoax and she was the one behind the wheel. >> it's very bizarre. >> reporter: katie watching the scene unfold great she was' very frantic and she got on the phone with whoever she was talking

address to call the cops. >> reporter: she did call the cops. tara brandenburg said someone stole her s.u.v. with her baby and dog inside. it was right across the street from the gas station. >> she pulled into the apartment complex behind us here. walked across the around went into the gas station, used the restroom. >> reporter: the sarg end with the west lynn police believes after she hit this bridge next to the gas stays she decided to make up a story. i. >> i think she hit the bridge and panicked. >> reporter: casey stone works at the gas station. the mother walked in and left. seconds later she came back inside yelling that her baby and her car were gone. >> when the cops were talking to her, she came back inside and used the restroom and drank the chardonnay while the cops were herr when she was' convinced her baby was missing.

people who are impaired make poor decisions. she made a number of them this evening both the baby and the dog were given to dad. he lives in oregon city. >> reporter: the mother is facing several charges including reckless endangering and dui. her four week old baby and dog are ok. >> jadiann: closing times for dozens of macy's including two in western massachusetts they'll be closing their stores in the eastfield and berkshire malls. macy please plans to lay off about 4300 employees. the company blamed it on a disappointing 2015. a toy like cardboard contraption giving a baby a new lease on life. this girl was born with half a heart and half a lung.
