that's what is pushing in to settle in for this week and it all starts overnight tonight. the temperatures droppinging as we head into overnight hours so this is something to pay close attention to as we head into the morning hours for the morning commute. what is wet now will likely re refreeze, icy spots very pop and even likely for the burbs tomorrow so please keep this in mind. we're talking about our next best shot of snow in the extend insisted forecast to come in just a few minutes . >> anchor: we're following breaking news. the boston police officer shot on friday is back home from the hospital. the officer is now back with his family. the nine year veteran of the boston police force was shot in the leg friday morning. he spent the weekend at boston medical center recovering. and the man accused of shooting the officer will face a judge tomorrow. grant hedy faces several charges charges. the 27-year-old dorchester man was on probation after serving five years in prison. >> anchor: the patriots are a step closer to being ready to roll next weekend. julian eelman is good to go.

to play in the divisional play playoff game against the chiefs. it is the news fans have been hoping for. edelman has been out of action for weeks now after breaking his foot against the giants. sports director joe amorsino in the newsroom with the details. >> anchor: julian edelman is ready for next saturday's divisional game against the chiefs. the pats receiver has spent the last two weeks, two plus weeks, getting comfortable with a steel plate in his left shoe that prevents that injured bone in refracturing. edelman suffered the injury back on november 15 in the patriots win over the giants. according to an nfl source, the bone has haled but is prone to breaking again to protect that foot a steel plate is built into his shoe. that prevents him from pushing off that left foot in the usual fashion. so edelman had to adjust to the way he pushes off and makes cuts cuts. the good news for the patriots is edelman has done that and he will play against the chiefs. kansas city is coming to gillette stadium after the steel steelers come back win over the ben calls last night.

>> anchor: crews making a chilling rescue in brockton when two boys fall through thin ice underneath. the boys were rush insisted to the hospital. one of them is still in critical condition. the my team's john cuoco live with what schools in brockton will be doing tomorrow to help out fellow students. >> anchor: the school district isic in aing sure that students get the support they need after two of their classmates fell through the ice that was on this pond here yesterday. just one day after two boys fell through the ice at this pond only to be pulled out by a couple of brave people in the fire department brockton public schools say they are bringing in counselors and support staff to help students following the dramatic rescue of their classmates saturday evening. the fire department says a 12 12-year-old and a nine-year-old were playing on the ice before it cracked and gave way . >> anchor: they went too far in the middle and they fell in . >> anchor: these three boys were all there. friends of the kids that fell in in. they jump insisted into action.

we got woke up up at 3:30 in the morning baying on the door. there are trucks everywhere my family is like in their pajamas. they were like all of our stuff is in flames. not something you expect for a wedding . >> reporter: fire engulfed one of the lodges. wedding guests sent running from the rooms since fire burned outside their motel room doors . i had 8 family members in that building. they, i mean, one of my family members the flames were right out their door. they opened the door and slammed it and ran out the back door it's crazy to think the roof is collapsing and that there were a couple of people that were trapped in there . >> anchor: fire fighters rescu rescuing three people who got trapped. luckily, s the fire chief tells 7 news none of them were hurt. the chief has a theory on how this fire got sparked . cigarette butt perhaps but i understand that the entire complex was at capacity last night. there were several weddings on the property and at that time of

of entertainment it's very possible somebody flick insisted a cigarette. >> anchor: fire chief also tells 7 that one of his fire fighters was exhaust insisted from fighting this intense flames for hours. you can see this building now all boarded up. there is a fence around we can actually still hear the fire alarm still going off inside and the fire chief says again he is just glad that no one was hurt. in sturbridge tonight, kelly o'hara, 7 news night team. >> anchor: a weymouth police officer involved in a head on crash overnight. police say the officer and two others were injured. the officer was taken to a nearby hospital but has been released. the other driver was arrest insisted and is charged with drunk driving. worcester police made an arrest in connection it a deadly hit and run. the suspect in custody tonight. police is a 56-year-old man was hit and killed yesterday morning while he was trying to cross west boylston street. the driver now faces numerous charges including leaving the scene of an accident . >> anchor: still ahead, a jumbo jon. powerball fever continues to spread.

warmth that we had today, but winter settling back in for this week with the temperatures falling overnight. cold settling in, really cuddling in with us for the entire week and maybe some snow in store for us next weekend. it looks like there might be something brewing down the pipe line but it will take a couple days for models to sort of come together and decide and we'll nail down the details just stay tuned through this week. current temperatures still fairly mild. 52 in boston, 53 in norwood but you can see that colder air is not far off. jaffrey, new hampshire at 44. we're starting to push that cold colder air in from the northwest and that will be the case through the overnight hours. here is the cold that's in store for us. not quite as cold as that vikings game. i know that frightens some people there but more seasonable temperatures for sure. it's winter, back in the forecast for us. you can see that lake effect snow machine really pumping here and even two, three, four feet of snow expect insisted in the next 72 hours on the other side of the great lakes. but for us we stay dry tomorrow. we get a lot of sunshine in

but it will be much colder. not just with the temperatures but also with some very blustery and even gusty winds coming out of the west. right now wind direction out of the southwest keeping things mild, that front hasn't made its way through just yet and we're looking at a pretty strong breeze. 10 to 20 miles per hour at times sustained winds. falling temperatures overnight tonight which means what is wet now will likely refreeze so watch out for possible areas of ice tomorrow morning and once we hit those morning lows around 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 in the morning we really don't recover a whole lot as we head into tomorrow afternoon. so highs tomorrow, what a far cry from today! 27 to 35 with very gusty winds and in fact there may actually be a wind advisory issued once again for tomorrow. we'll keep our eye out for that. highs tomorrow, how about this? 27 for worcester, 33 for boston. this is a touch below average for this time of year. that cold air finally pushing in for us and it looks like it will
