>> this is 7 news at noon. >> christa: winter weather making its way back to the bay state today. we are keeping a close eye on the radar. some rain, a little bit of snow moving in as well. good afternoon, everyone. i'm christa delcamp. >> kris: i'm kris anderson in for sarah this noon. we need to be aware of the winter weather. >> chris: we are not talking about a lot of snow in terms of big amounts. the burst of snow certainly creating some slick spots this evening. 32 in boston right now. 28 in worcester. it's been dry. it continues to be dry at this hour with sunshine. although beginning to see more clouds mix in. a couple of flurries southwestern new hampshire. back into connecticut.

flurries down through the cape and the islands as well. the overall theme, increased cloud cover and moisture in the atmosphere. eventually, these snow showers work on. in near day's end. more likely, just after sunset for a lot of us. any flurries this afternoon in the afternoon. and snow squalls expected by about 6:00, 7:00 p.m. here is the timeline. 6:00. snowing. out in worcester. you notice down in providence, rhode island, it is rain. initially, in the city of boston, for a brief moment, there may be a little bit of rain on the on-set. when you get the burst of precipitation to come on through, we transition over to snow. i would say around 7:00 thereafter, in boston, may get a coating to an inch of snow. that will happen sooner out into worcester. as early as 5:00 p.m. a break late evening. late overnight tonight, another batch of some snow showers and squalls. working on through. the theme here, though, not a ton of snow. a few snow squalls reducing the visibility and create slick spots out there.

you have to do whatever you can do to be on the field. help us win. play your role. do the job the coach asked you to do. and you know, try to figure out how to score some points. >> kris: tom brady did not talk about that ankle injury he suffered. he has had a lot of time to rest it with the bye week. >> christa: also happening today: more about the regulations that the state's attorney general maura healey wants to put in place for fantasy sports sites. for the latest on that hearing, let's go to dan hausle. dan? >> reporter: yeah. well, some states like illinois and new york want to ban fantasy sports like fan duel and draftkings. a.g. maura healey talking about regulating them. today she took her regulations that are suggested and held a public hearing for the public and the big stake-holders, including a draft kings lawyer. some of the regulations proposed include limiting monthly betting to a thousand dollars a month.

and also banning betting on college games and high school games. some of the people here looking at compulsive gambling say these regulations are good. possibly not enough. but those backing fantasy sports, particularly, the lawyer for draftkings said they go too far. >> we are concerned that regulation will limit deposits to more than $1,000 a month. this is unnecessarily low. we believe that the requirements to raise the deposit limit will be the basis to allow for increased deposits. >> i believe the proposed regulations have many strengths. self-limitations and several inclusion options being made

and keith wanted to talk more in a moment. >> reporter: the attorney general's office saying they will still take written comments until january 22, hoping to have their regulations finished by the end of the winter. we are live from boston, dan hausle, 7 news. >> kris: new details about a serious crash in lexington. it happened on route 128 at around 4:00 this morning. driving on the wrong side the of the highway when they car. fast man and a woman both in hospital with serious injuries. the crash shut down all northbound lanes for about two hours during this morning's commute. >> christa: now a dangerous duel caught on camera down in fall river. where this store clerk hops on

actually, the robber hops up on the counter and is feuding with the store clerk. the two just swinging at each other. then it spills out into the aisles. police managed to arrest the suspect in that robbery. he is due in court today. jennifer eagan is at the courthouse in fall river today. jen? >> reporter: christa, in fact, 36-year-old jose sanchez just faced a judge a few moments ago. police here in fall river say they were on an unrelated calling yesterday when an officer recognized sanchez. at least in part from the surveillance video. the suspect jumped up on the counter. >> he said "give me money. give me money." >> >> reporter: knife in hand. when the clerk at the market took out a knife of his own, the two started swinging at each other. that was sunday morning around 9:30. today the alleged attacker is under arrest.

while masked, an armed assault to murder. police used the surveillance video and description of the suspect to arrest jose torado sanchez. at one point during the fight, both men dropped their knives, the attacker rearmed himself with the clerk's weapon. >> i'm lucky. i have a life. >> reporter: this is not the first time a clerk has fought off an attacker at that store. a similar situation, sanchez is being held without bail, meanwhile. >> kris: also on 7: a teenager in brockton sent to the hospital after he was hit by a stray bullet in his own kitchen. figure out if this shooting is connected to another shooting that happened right around the same time. live in brockton with more on this story. nicole? >> reporter: well, chris, according to police, both shootings were similar. two cars shooting at one another. the one happening here at 8:00:

of bullets hitting the building, including a teen who was sitting inside his home. a 17-year-old from brockton not safe from gunfiref, even inside his own home. police say the teen was an innocent victim, hit in the shot through the wall of his ... apartment. >> good kid. you know, it is always the wrong kids that get shot. >> reporter: last night, two cars started shooting at each other at the pine grove estate apartments. >> i heard them. we didn't know until after wards what happened. >> reporter: officers marked 18 shell casings and say the shots were fired from more than 500 feet away. spraying the complex with bullets. four hit cars. three hit buildings. two made it into homes. including this shot that injured the teen who was sitting down in his kitchen at the time. >> it is a tragedy. you know, it just seems like some of these people have no respect for human life. we had another shooting incident later in the evening,

about 12:06 a.m. another 15 rounds were fired. we recovered three firearms at that location. again, two vehicles shooting at each other. >> reporter: the teen rushed injuries. >> you know, it is always the bad kids always get away in this town. >> reporter: now that, teen is expected to recover. police say the shell casings that were recovered went to a nine-millimeter and .40-caliber gun. at this hour, there have been no arrests. they are still searching for suspects. we are live in brockton, 7 news. >> christa: a couple facing charges after a bust in tewksbury. feint million to the drugs were hidden inside furniture inside the home. the drugs have a street value of roughly $3 million. neighbors back in their homes

night. a man barricaded himself inside a home on stetson road. the bomb squad and other agencies had to be called in to the scene. after several hours, the suspect was taken into custody. >> kris: a developing story overseas: officials on high alert after a deadly explosion rocks istanbul, turkey. crews here carrying out those wounded. officials say at least ten people were killed. 15 were injured in the bombing. tourist spot there. turk irk officials say a suicide bomber affiliated with isis is behind this explosion. >> dramatic video has been released of a tense takedown of mexican drug lord el chapo. this video shows the raid inside his safehouse in mexico. that put an end to his six months on the run. (gunfire) you are looking at mexican marines exchanging gunfire with the drug lord's bodyguards. officials say el chapo was finally tracked down because he had reached out to

about his life. and that included actor sean penn. penn said he worried that the mexican government was following him while attempting to meet el chapo. it turns out he was right. what you are looking at here, surveillance pictures of penn and mexican actress kate del castillo. it is unclear whether penn will face any charges. el chapo is facing drug trafficking charges in several states here in the u.s. including new hampshire. candidates hillary clinton and bernie sanders intensifying their campaigns. during a forum in iowa last night, they went after their republican rivals. >> anybody can win. i mean, this is... who would have thought donald trump would be leading in national polls? (laughter) >> chris: you will have to do the backwards walk tomorrow morning coming into work. keep that in mind, guys. by tomorrow morning. hey, it was cold this morning. temperatures down into the teens. low 20's in boston. close to seasonal levels. as kris and christa were membersing, we hardly had any wind. we have that going for us. the numbers have rebounded nicely. coming in out of the southeast. that will continue to warm us up. into the upper 30's.

massachusetts. now, the radar satellite composite showing a few flurries across the cape and southern new hampshire down into connecticut. the atmosphere is really dry. not all of this quite reaching the ground yet. this suffer the back through pennsylvania and into the ohio ground. we have had some heavy snow showers and snow squalls in that area. and that is the moisture that's going to be pressing in here late today and into this evening hours. by 6:00, look at the number in boston. 37 degrees. we are 31 in worcester. initially, even a little built of this may become rain here. from providence up the 95 stretch into boston. i don't think the rain lasts that long. once you get a heavy burst of precipitation, you drag some of the cold air down to the surface. that is just above the surface. we change over to snow. likely getting a burst of snow even in the city of boston by 7:00 or 8:00 p.m. we will have snow for a couple of hours out through worcester county through the evening commute. your best chance for commute issues with the slippery spots farther north and west you go, especially near 495, out

boston, mainly wets roads through 6:00 or 7:00. how much snow? coating to an inch for a lot of us along the shoreline. and west. we are not talking a lot of snow. when you get it in a short period of time, some of these bursts, there could be some travel woes early this evening. locally poor conditions. heavier squalls. we haven't had to talk about the snow a lot. >> danielle: that's exactly right, chris. we have only seen a trace of snow this season. so temperatures today in the upper 0's. we will see those snow showers later on today. but tomorrow we have more sunshine and temperaturess are dropping. and it is going to feel even colder. because the winds are returning. so tomorrow morning, into tomorrow afternoon, those westerly winds l will be gusting around 40 miles per hour. very gusty for the commute tomorrow morning. throughout much of the day.

into thursday. and that means our windchill temperatures will be in the teens, even getting down into the single digits tomorrow night. we will need the coats for a few more days. huh, chris? that we could use the there. we have to dust off the car tomorrow morning. coastal low trying to take saturday. if cold air marginal, at best. with the on-shore wind, it does look like much of eastern massachusetts, down through southeastern massachusetts is going to be rain on the saturday system of those with limited cold air: just enough to supply some snow across the berkshires and central new england there. a long ways out. we will keep an eye on how that set-up works. i do expect some wet weather at least down at gillette. kickoff, 4:5. forecast not the best of days. we will see how it goes there. the forecast. behind that system, another cold shot coming in early next

>> kind of like a strong bad egg odor. most of the basement was pretty clear. when i opened the doors to the room, the furnace was in, the smell was the same as it was upstairs. >> reporter: he told the dicare director and the others in thed bying to get out. then radioed the fire station for back-up. armed with carbon monoxide detectors, crews made a disturbing discovery. there was a presence of carbon monoxide reaching limits of up to 600 parts per million. >> reporter: thanks to this dad who happens to be a fire lieutenant, everyone was okay. >> i'm glad i was there. you know, my children were there. other people's children were there. >> reporter: carbon monoxide detectors did not officially go off. in the case, the scent of burning oil coming from a broken furnace helped the firefighter zero in on the problem and essentially save

worcester county, 4:00 p.m. city of boston, more likely 6:00 a few heavy snow squalls coming. in that will create some slippery spots out there for the evening commute. especially 495 and worcester county. temperatures will be close to freezing close to 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. winds out of the southeast. these numbers in boston climbing into the upper 30's later on this afternoon. that is why i wouldn't be surprised to see a few rain-drops officially start things off in the city of boston and down through southeastern massachusetts. here is the snow, kris anderson was talking about on the radar and satellite composite. heavy squalls working through pennsylvania. a lot of instability to the atmosphere. that will produce some of these snow showers and squalls into this evening. by 6:00 or 7:00 p.m., some showers and squalls will be widespread. now, initially, we are starting off as all snow. and staying all snow in worcester, fitchburg. up into southern new hampshire. between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. by 6:00 p.m., some rain showers going over to snow showers. and snals.

that the hour, there have been no arrests. they are still searching for suspects. we are live in brockton, 7 news. >> kris: a father and son in the hospital today after the building they were in went up in flames. they suffered serious injuries in this massive near happened at a dentist's offers in mattapan. now investigators are saying that it was a piece of dental equipment inside the building that is to blame for that fire. crews... it kept fire crews busy for hours. a man trapped in mattapan as his home burns. >> his son is in serious condition at this time. >> the home on babson street is also a dentist's offers. on this video, you see the dentist come running out in a cloud of thick black smoke. >> the father met the fire companies out front. he appeared to be dazed and confused. >> witnesses say he was yelling that his son was trapped in a back bedroom. boston firefighters say the man was in cardiac arrest when they got to him.

they were able to revive him, get a pulse back. investigators say a piece of dental equipment sparked, causing the fire. a firefighter was also taken from the scene on a stretcher with a knee injury. people who know the dentist and his son anxious to hear how they are doing. >> i hope everybody is okay. >> kris: this fire caused more than $500,000 in damage. >> christa: a dangerous drive in hingham. police arrested a man who crashed his car along 228 and kept driving. police took him into custody after seeing that an air bag had been deployed. investigators say he also admitted to crashing his car but couldn't remember anything else. he appeared in court monday and has been charged with drunken driving and driving with an open container. >> kris: sergeant bowe

he did not enter a plea in december during his arraignment. he faces charges of desertion from his military base in 200. >> christa: the case against bill cosby: attorneys making a case now to dismiss charges filed against him down in pennsylvania. the comedian was charged last month for assault for allegedly drugging and assailing a woman there in 2004. his attorneys say the charges cosby paid the woman an undisclosed settlement after she sued him in 2005. the charges just came days as the statute of limitations on the case were set to expire. >> kris: lamar odom will not be facing charges after he almost died from a drug overdose at a nevada brothel last october. police initially wanted to charge odom for using cocaine. but prosecutors say they couldn't determine that he used the drug while in their jurisdiction.

when the temperatures drop, you just have this coating of ice. >> kris: that is when you are like, honey, can you scrape the car, please? on. that will do it. maybe not. >> chris: you put the defrost on. you will have to run that for a few days out there. gas. that will take a while to melt. that is worse than getting the car towed or booted. 21 in boston this morning. teens in a lot of suburbs. 33 in plymouth. 32 in boston. winds out of the southeast. these numbers warming up above the freezing mark. as we work through the afternoon into the early evening. although we will stay close to freezing if not below it in worcester county. that is why i expect total snow west of boston. in boston at 37 degrees, we may have a few rain-drops mixed in before transitioning to snow showers and squalls early this evening. sleet pellets and light snow down through nantucket. transitioning over to rain-drops.

degrees. a few flurries working in toward the cape. a couple of flurries in central massachusetts. for the most part, a lot of us not reaching the ground. it is snowing through worcester county. island. you can watch what happens along this 95 corridor. close to the city of boston. through cape ann. initially, some rain-drops. then you get a heavy enough burstle of snow, and it will go over to snow. snowflakes will make it down to the ground. even in boston. a couple of breaks late this evening. maybe another snow squall or snow shower overnight. not a prolonged event. when you get these bursts of snow to roll on through and quickly drop down, a coating to an inch or two of snow, you get the travel out there. you get the reduced visibility. that is something we will keep an eye on. any rain is limbed here for maybe an hour or two of mixing in. before you transition over to the heavier snow squalls by 7:00 p.m. in boston. finally, talking about some

about that. >> danielle: by this time in the season, we should have around 13 inches of snow. we have only seen a trace. that should change as we head into this evening. our least snowiest winter, we only had a third of an inch by this time. something to keep in mind. we will see those snow showers later on today. let's talk about tomorrow, though. temp qhurs are dropping. more sunshine and more wind. it will be quite windy throughout much of the day. we won't see the winds starring to die down until we head into tomorrow evening. and then into early thursday morning. the cold temperatures and wind that, means windchill temperatures in the teens. that is going to feel very cold tomorrow. even as we head into tomorrow evening, windchills, temperatures in the single digits.

cottage grove, minnesota. is now home to something new. >> we started at 10:00 last night. we didn't get done until 2:00 this morning. >> reporter: while his neighbors slept, jim chiseled away. >> i kind of feel like kevin has found his home. this kind of symbolizes that. >> reporter: to understand the story behind this kidney snow sculpture, toufer look back to jim in 2014. >> running on empty now. >> reporter: then he kneed a new kidney. he and his brother created kevin, the snow kidney. next to the sculpture, a wanted sign for a donor. the message went viral. this picture of jim was taken last march after he received his kidney transplant. that hasn't stopped his mission to save others in need of a kidney. >> i'm kind of hoping that by doing, this there are those people that come through who don't know me and they see this, and they at least think about it or they think twice
