potent weather system comes barreling through southern new england. this little guy here doesn't have a lot to work with but he's going to make the most of what he's given. it will flip this cold front through new england later on this evening and as it does it kicks up the atmosphere for snow showers and rain showers as well. so our storm time line 6:00 this evening snow and rain getting into the city of boston. evening commute shouldn't be affected that much. there's likely to be a couple pockets of snow in the metrowest and worcester hills over the next hour, hour and a half. boston north and south shore i think we're dry certainly for the next hour, not including a flurry or sprinkle here or there. as we work through midevening then the weather system blows out of here with just a lot of clouds and then metro tonight. so how much snow on the way? the thinking really hasn't changed much since chris this morning. rain and snow back and snow.

all i want to do is express how remorseful i am. >>reporter: apologizing to the parole board. the victim suffered from multiple sclerosis and walked with a cane. she was stabbed to death. he befriended flynn's family for several years before a dna match him to the murder. he says he's a different person now, rehabilitated, despite being grilled by the parole board. >> can you ask the family to accept my apology. i've already taken so much for them. i understand my apology will not change my actions. however, i do pray my actions today and in the future can atone for their loss. >>reporter: he was denied parole back in 2010 and five years later family members of flynn hope he's denied again. >> i want him to know i'll never accept his apology, never. what he did to my sister

>> my fear is he's deceiving you the way he deceived us. while in the past five years he may have improved his actions, it's only because he was told to act a certain way if he wanted to be considered for parole. >>reporter: we're told the parole board may take as long as eight weeks before issuing their zig in this case. live in natick, steve cooper, 7 news. lowell high school responding to a rumor about a threat of a attack on january 14th. the school says police have conducted an interview into the threat and say it is not credible but extra police will be assigned to the high school on thursday. police in salem, new hampshire are offering a $1,000 reward for any information on the vandals who spray painted about a dozen homes in the city. they say cars, homes and mailboxes were all damaged. worcester police investigating two assaults involving

involved a dating app. police say two men were attacked in two separate incidents earlier this month. both say they arranged to meet a female on the app and that's where the attack happened. >> i think people should be wary of social media and take it back to the old days. >> you have to have common sense. you have to protect yourselves. >>reporter: potential say it's happened twice in the past two weeks and they don't want it happening again. >> this is the first time we're seeing a dating app. that's why we're trying to get it out there, for those on it to use caution. >>reporter: investigators say the first time a man was robbed of his cell phone after responding to an ad and a second time another guy was stabbed. >> on the tenth of january another male responded to the same address and he was attacked and they

quickly changed of he noticed a strange smell in the building. >> kind of a strong bad egg odor. >> when i opened the doors to the room the furnace was in, the smell was the same as it was upstairs. >> he told the day care director and the half dozen others in the building to get out. then radioed the fire station for backup. armed with carbon monoxide detecters, crews made a disturbing discovery. >> there was a presence of carbon monoxide reaching limits of up to 600 part per million. >>reporter: levels like that could have been deadly but thanks to this dad who happens to be a fire lieutenant everyone is okay. >> my children were there. other people's children were there. >>reporter: carbon monoxide detectors did not initially go off which is disturbing. in this case the scent of oil from a broken furnace helped save the day.

right place at the right time. >>reporter: kimberly bookman, 7 news. a female family player who suffered a serious injury at the winter classic is on the road to making a recovery. she's speaking once again. she posted this video on monday. she suffered a severe spinal cord injury after crashing into the boards. she recently had surgery to allow her to speak again. she has limited movement in her arms but cannot motor vehicle her legs. we're following more news today, the soldier accused of deserting his troops in afghanistan facing a judge today. this morning bowe bergdahl faces charges of disappearing from his base in afghanistan in 2009. bergdahl was released una prison swap five years later.

a court-martial has been set for august. bill cosby's lawyers say the charges were illegally filed. the comedian was charged last month for allegedly drugging and assaulting a woman in pennsylvania back in 2004. cosby paid the woman and dos closed a settlement. his charges say the new charges violate the terms of the settle. lamar odom will not be facing charges after he almost died from a drug overdose at a nevada brothel last october. police initially wanted to charge odom for using cocaine but prosecutors say they couldn't determine odom used the drug while in their jurisdiction. odom is out of the hospital and continuing to recover in a private facility. three police officers now being called heroes. what they did to save those trapped inside a

it was a race to the rescue for police officers in west hempstead new york after fire broke out in a building there. >> the officers say they just acted on instinct. >>reporter: amidst the screams and smoke from the raging fire from this apartment building in new york on friday, three hero police officers. >> don't have any gear on them, no protection going up this ladder risking their own lives to help other people. >>reporter: all credited with potentially deadly fire. >> i just want to help people in distress. >> just go up there and

>>reporter: the fire broke out in a furniture store and quickly spread to other buildings. the officers were first to respond to firefighters and saw people trapped on the upper floors. two officers grabbing a ladder and using it to rescue people from a second floor window. he says they rescued the second person just in time. >> he was aspirating. he couldn't breathe. he had block soot just pouring out of his nose. >>reporter: another officer rescued four more people, two of them children. >> went up the ladder, carried them down. job. >>reporter: no one was seriously hurt in this fire. two other officers helped with the rescues and all the police officers are being considered for department medals. tracking rain drops and snow flakes and then bitter wind for tomorrow. forecast up next. and ahead at 5:00 monitoring the state of our union.

is once that hops over the berkshires around midnight, that will dry up. so the concern for snow around the metro is happening now first in the worcester hills and then eventually into the city of boston about 6:00, 7:00 this evening. might come in a little bit earlier than that. by 9:00: 30, -- 9:30, out you go. i don't think there will be a second wave of snow with the actual arctic front. i do think the 95 corridor is going to go back and forth duking it out between rain drops and snow flakes. a coating to an inch could really foul things up if you're out on untreated surfaces, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 tonight along the 128 corridor and west of 128 one to two inches of snow likely. route 2 corridor, 93, merrimac valley, so likely to be some shoveling and plowing of roadways and dusting off

later on tonight or early tomorrow morning. temps right now again mid to upper 30s. that will slow down the snowfall accumulation in the city but eventually does happen. worcester, it's going to be all snow. worcester right now at 31. jaffrey at 26 and on the other side of the arctic front. buffalo at 20 degrees and that cold air comes charging into new england later on tonight. the precipitation winds down by 9:00, 10:00 tonight with clearing skies, lows between 24 and 29. tomorrow blustery and cold with partly to mostly sunny skies. the actual air temps will be near 30 degrees but forget that. it's the wind. a feisty westerly wind. this is real nasty. this is whatt's all about in the winter time, the cold, biting wind that rips right through you. wind chills all day long in the teens. usually i show you the forecast temps the next day but tomorrow i think it will be more like the wind chills.

19 in boston. 20 on cape ann. back in the worcester hills a mix of clouds and sunshine with wind chills. these are wind chills in the teens. even out on the cape and the islands, winds gusting 40, 45. occasionally near 50 miles an hour keeping the wind chills pinned down around 20 degrees. thursday it's cold but much less wind. thursday you have a chance at least if you're out and about. tomorrow forget about it. layer up. friday we start to see milder weather with temperatures on friday, upper 30s to around 40. here comes our next weather system on saturday. this one is tricky because there are some signs there may be just enough cold air at the back edge of this weather system that we see the rain and as some snow boston as well as north and south. i don't have details on that one just wet -- yet. patriots game looks drizzly and flurries with kickoff saturday afternoon running in the

with an update. an update where we believe there's a crash in the andover area. joe stapleton has us covered. >>reporter: i just got off the line with state police. they have concrete apparently falling from that under pass right by route 495 in andover. one left hand lane is getting by and 93 northbound is a huge backup here, about seven miles is looks like, way 128. 93 northbound for the time being anyway. only the left-hand lane is getting by. some falling debris. a look at some of that backup as well. 128's been tough at route 93 as well. that was set up by an earlier crash. downtown. we have plenty of those two on the zakim bridge. 95 northbound heavy up into medford. making your way on the
