breaking story throughout the evening here on 7news. also a now:30, lawyers for bill cosby in a massachusetts court today. they're trying to keep some potentially damaging documents out of the public eye. >> those dewpoints could include details of his alleged caught ands. 7's jonathan hall live for us in worcester with more on what happened in court today, john. >> yeah, good afternoon. bill cosby is free on a million dollars cash bail as he awaits trial and criminal charges in montgomerie county, pennsylvania. he also faces a slew of civil lawsuits including one right here in massachusetts where he has a home in shellborn falls. there was a hearing on secrecy here this morning. a federal magistrate here in worcester today denied bll cosby's request that all evidence in the civil suit be sealed and secret instead of compromise. the court will consider requests for confidential daily on a case-by-case basis. either side may ask that certain information be kept private and then the judge will decide what will and will not be released to

an attorney for seven women who claim cosby assaulted them and who now claim he has defamed them is pleased with this deal. >> and they're claiming that my clients are liars, but here again, we have chosen a forum, a courtroom where the truth can be tried and the rules apply equally and fairly to both sides. >> reporter: cosby's lawyers had no comment outside the court and the elderly comedian did not appear as he was forced to late last month in pennsylvania when a d.a. filed three criminal sexual assault charges against him, following incidents with a then 31-year-old temple university employee 11 years ago. attorney joseph camarrata hopes the criminal trial there won't throw a monkey wrench into his civil case. >> we believe the civil case has its own issues and proofs that need to be made and it's got nothing to do with whether or not mr. cosby is found guilty of the charges he's been charged

the federal judge said he does plan to ask cosby and his weave camille questions about sex, infidelity and drug use. mrs. cosby is fighting to skip the deposition. >> camilles cosby says she shouldn't have to testify against her own husband. that's true in criminal court but in civil court it is not true. if she fails in her appeal, she will have to give the deposition february 22nd. jonathan hall, 7news. a judge hearing opening statements today in the trial of a man charged for a serious car crash in jamaica plaines. prosecutors say popadoppalis is charged charged with neglect operation of a vehicle. his teens jumped the median and five people were hurt, two them seriously. firefighters on the scene in a multifamily home in lowell. the fire started late last night, breaking out on the first floor and then spreading up to the second story. you can see the damage to the side of the home there, officials say that no one was

out of their units. a jewel thief in foxboro steals a large diamond in the middle of the day. police are asking for the public's help identifying this man, who the store's owner says stole a 2 carat diamond from the store after looking the a even good eveningment rings earlier in the day. they say he was driving a white acura at the time of the robbery. a dorchester family breathing a survive relief after a boston police officer saves an unresponsive little girl. the girl's mother called police saying her 4-year-old daughter was having seizures. when an officer arrived, he saw the girl had stopped breathing and immediately began to perform cpr until she started breathing again. >> my mind playing tricks on me and she took another one and i was probably happy an all day. i think it was excellent. i think without them my daughter wouldn't be here. so i applaud them. >> firefighters and emts also came to the rescue.

children's hospital where she is recovering. and we're following more one person is under arrest after a police chase with a tractor/trailer in texas. the 18-wheeler led police on a highway. police were able to put stop sticks out on the road to bring that truck to a halt. there's no word on why the man was running from police. after the truck was stopped, an hour-long standoff between the driver and police then started. the suspect eventually surrendered with his hands up just as an armored vehicle was moving in front of the truck. officers tackled the man to the ground and placed him under arrest. a school sick-out forcing students to stay home in detroit but it's not because anyone's actually sick. 24 schools in the city were closed on tuesday as a result of a high number of teacher absences. the teachers say they want their schools cleaned and protesting the conditions. >> reporter: a representative from the detroit federation of teachers and the american federation of teachers escorted

three different schools on tuesday. the first stop was spain elementary school in the detroit medical center area. and it could be considered a poster child for why teachers have organized and staged 88 school sick-outs in the past two days. >> the water leaks through here and when it rains in the worst way. but on a rainy day, you have water throughout this entire hallway. >> reporter: without question, there are big problems with some of detroit's school facilities. but the district maintains keeping kids out of the classroom is not the answer. >> 64 buildings yesterday, 24 buildings today is not helping us make our case to the legislature. >> reporter: both local and national teacher union reps say they're not condoning the sick-outs but they support their teachers, while the absences are not being labeled a strike, those reps say it is still a possibility. here's where we are, here's where we are -- inside that's a

>> that's a serious question, ladies. >> and that's why i want to give a really serious answer. we can't say that that's not ever a possibility. i can tell you that if we ever want to go on strike, it would be a democratic process. it would be loaded by secret -- voted by secret the ballot by the membership. >> the sick-outs have affected tens of thousands of students but the number of clovessings is dwindling. the district reported at least five closings today compared to about two dozen yesterday and more than 60 monday. the nfl approve as relocation for the rams will move from st. louis to los angeles for the 2016 season. the team will play at a new stadium in angle wood set to be completed by the 19th. the rams left los angeles back in 1995 and fans are thrilled to have a pro football team back in that city, but st. louis, as you can imagine, a much different reaction. >> it's just depressing to see a team that i loved and poured all my sundays into for years just leave.

billion development, a budget shortfall of a minimum of $4 million. none that is good news for the city of st. louis. >> the san diego chargers were also given the green light to move to l.a. within the year but will still have to finalize a deal for that move. and a former rams player lawrence phillips found dead today in a california prison. police are investigating the death as a suspected suicide. 40-year-old phillips was facing murder charges for allegedly killing his former cellmate. he was a star running back in college winning two national championships and joining the nfl as a first round draft pick. sentenced to 31 years in prison back in 2009. and an impromtu hair salon caught on camera. employees in arkansas were recorded using a pot and stove to fix one employee's hair. you can see one woman dry off the other's hair all while customers even watch. health inspectors went to investigate yesterday and found some violations but the health department said the restaurant will remain open as managers were to meet health and safety codes.

oklahoma as speeds topped more than 100 miles per hour as sparks were flying. deputies rammed the back of a truck that was traveling the wrong way down a highway. deputies were able to get the truck to the side of the road but the driver continued to push the gas pedal. officers jumped out and on to the truck, and then grabbed the driver inside. they say he was reaching for a weapon. emergency crews rescue a worker trapped in a trench. the plumbing contractor got stuck in a sewer line in california today when the trench suddenly collapsed on top of him. the rescue took more than 10 hours. the man was taken to a hospital but is expected to be okay. and a massive geyser erupts in pennsylvania. a water main break this morning caused the rocketing water to shoot some 30 feet into the air but freezing temperatures made the water instantly freeze on power lines and streets, even a building there. crews shut off the water and worked to knock all the ice cycles off the nearby power lines. you can see right here shelf

party city store. at least three people were hurt when the shelves came crashing down. rescue crew htion to bring in police dogs to find people who were trapped. venessa medina gives us a closer look at that rescue effort. >> everything started to fall, and i just ran towards on the other side of the store. >> reporter: jan was inside party city when the shelves began collapsing. >> bang, i mean. it was loud. i thought it was like the roof falling down. we had to run towards the door. >> it sounded almost like -- there was thunder. i heard a boom, boom, boom, and i remember continuing to somebody and saying what was that. >> when we got here, what we found were that a total of seven aisles had collapsed, domino effect, on to each other. >> reporter: lw black was inside the store setting up a display when one of the shelves buckled on top him. >> it pop down and i'm sitting

>> i was just saying get out, get out. >> reporter: black getting stuck in between a panel and he was okay but concerned for everyone else inside. >> it was a domino effect. the shelves are going to be falling and these things like 8 feet tall. so if somebody's in between them and that shelf comes over on them, they're gone. >> this time special operations crews are in there sifting through the rubble to make sure there are no people trapped underneath. all employees and vendors have been accounted for. >> reporter: in all, three people were treated and released for minor injuries. party city releasing this statement, the safety of our customers and employees is our number one priority, and we are environment. we're looking into this situation to pinpoint the exact cause, and the store remains closed at this time. >> it's unclear when the store will re-open and as to what caused the shelves to come down.
