a median and hit a truck on arbor way. five people, including the driver, were hurt, two them seriously. a jewel thief in foxboro stealing a large diamond in the middle of the day. police are asking for the public's help identify this man right here who say stole a 2 carat diamond from the store after looking at engagement rings earlier in the day. they say he was driving a white acura at the time of the robbery. a fire started at a family home on lowell last night. you can see the damage to the side of the house there. officials say that no one was hurt but people have been moved out of their units. a man is arrested in connection to an acid attack in connecticut. derrick rawles is accused of throwing a dangerous chemical at his neighbor who suffered third-degree burns. the victim tells police she dated rawles in the past but they were no longer together. rawles is being held on a half million dollars. new hampshire state police are searching for the driver who slammed into a trooper's cruiser and then drove off.

speeding on route 89 in warner and couldn't slow down in the slick conditions and slammed flight that cruiser. you can see the damage. the teacher was treated for minor injuries. >> we're following more news here today. a community in cincinnati shaken up after what investigators are calling a tragic mistake. police say a father thought his son was an interviewedder and that's when he shot and killed the 14-year-old boy. the father says his son was supposed to be in school. >> reporter: a teen boy guilty of skipping school but police say the noise the 14-year-old made sneak into the back basement door had his father go get his gun and shoot. >> i just shot my son by accident. >> where is he shot? >> in the chest. with a .45. he scared me. i thought he was in school. i heard noise and so i went downstairs looking, and he jumped out at me and scared me. oh, god. >> extremely tragic event. >> reporter: police say that's

mexican officials say guzman's jailers are taking extra steps to make sure el chapo stays put. he is being moved to a different cell more than once a day. guzman will be extradited to the u.s. possibly even by the end of enforcement. and former nfl running back lawrence phillips has been found prison. police are investigating the death as a suspected suicide. 40-year-old phillips was face murder charges for allegedly killing his former cellmate. phillips was a star running back in college winning two national championships at nebraska and joining the nfl as a first round draft pick. he was sentenced to 31 years in prison back in 2009. following news across the country now. a dramatic chase in oklahoma. speeds top more than 100 miles per hour, sparks flew as deputies ram the back of the truck after the driver started traveling the wrong way down an interstate there. deputies pushed the truck to the side of the road but the driver continued to gun the gas. you can see right here officers eventually jumped into the truck and made their way into the car.

reached for a weapon so they overpowered him and took him to jail. in texas, another person is under arrest after a police chase with a tractor/trailer. the 18-wheeler led the police on a 30 minute chase along a highway there. police were able to put stop sticks out on the road to bring that truck to a stop, you can see there. now, there's no word why the man was running from police. after the truck was stopped, an hour-long standoff between the driver and police then started. the suspect eventually got out of his cab and was taken to the ground just as an armored vehicle was moving into the of the truck there. officers tackled the man to the ground and placed him under arrest. a party city in florida is left with a huge mess. you you can see several aisles collapsed. officials say a shelf fell over causing a domino effect knocking down several or shelves. customers who were inside the store say it was a scary experience. >> i thought it was like the

>> sowbledzed like there was thunder, i heard a boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. >> three customers were hurt. the store will remain closed until the mess is all cleaned up. teacher turmoil forcing students to stay home in detroit. 24 schools in the city were closed as a result of a teacher staging a sick-out. those teachers are calling for change based on what they're calling disgusting work conditions. >> a representative from the detroit fed race of teachers and the american federation of teachers escorted detroit mayor mike duggan to three different schools on tuesday. the first stop was spain elementary school and the detroit medical center area. it could be can considered a poster child for why teachers have organized and staged 88 school sick-outs in the past two days. >> the water leaks through here and -- 21 rains in the worst way. but on a rainy day, have you water throughout this entire hallway. >> reporter: without question, there are big problems with some

ice with a tow truck. and the freeing winds covered the huge sheet of ice. yesterday i saw a interest ugg that got pull out from an icy parking lot and it left the grille in eyes free standing. >> yeah, the power of cold and windy conditions, right. you know, we've had our old problems around here, huh, jr. >> yes, we have. wind gusts this morning close to 60 miles per hour. right now it's gusting 20 to 25 miles per hour. boston gusts to 25. province, a gust of 26. it's not that i forgot finish my homework and not report these winds but fewer communities reporting a gusting wind and that is a sign we'll see continue happen as the wind will begin to fade away which will allow the windchill temperatures to back off. right now with the wind, it feels like it's in the single numbers, boston feels like 13. worcester norwood and bedford, feels like 6 to 9 degrees.

in the teens and 20s. 20s. storm up in the maritimes, high pressure trying to take over southern new england and that difference in air pressure eventually the storm gets farther away and then high pressure, the blue h, comes into new england. oddly enough with high pressure getting closer to us, we see an increase in clouds. cold with temps between 15 and 20. through the day tomorrow, less wind and not as cold, and it's throwback thursday, with a mix of clouds and sunshine. 29 to 30. these numbers pretty close to where we should be this time of year. tomorrow... mashpee 33, chatham at 34. friday it's the same, mix of clouds and sunshine. a little milder on friday, the numbers upper 30s to around 40

storm system, normally down south in new england it would put us on the cold side of the storm but there's no cold air in southern new england. it's leftover mild air from friday. so that means, once again, it's more about the rain than anything else and that's been the pattern of late where we have these cold shots in new england, like we saw today and we'll have tonight. but right now nothing is locking that cold air in place. and there are no signs of that happening with this storm. so the next one, even though it's gonna be off the coast, which would favor it, cold and snow, not the case and cold comes right back in early next week. the way i see the saturday storm, it's the first part of the day, by the way. in fact, i think we can speed it up and move it out of here early saturday afternoon. saturday morning, rainy. there may be some rain and wet snow that tries to end so somewhat snow and accumulating snow in the pink region here where you may pick up a slushy inch or two, especially in the higher elevations, northern worcester county. but i think for most of us in southern new england, it is

skiers forecast for the weekend, the holiday weekend, you will you have snow in ski country. you're doing fine now. and sunday some lingering flurries with temperatures in the lower to mid-30s. so skiers forecast over to a tropical forecast. say what? yeah, it's very unusual. some tropical storm alex just formed a couple of hours ago, very rare. last time we had a tropical storm in the month of january, you have to go back to 1978, and since, they have been keeping tabs on these bug-a-boos in 1851, it's only the fourth time that we've had a named storm in the month of january. 7 on 7 forecast. the remainder of your holiday weekend sunday features a lot of clouds, upper 30s. monday also with scattered snowshowers. and next week looks cold for much of next week, tuesday, wednesday only in the upper 20s. see you at 6:00. >> thanks, jeremy. we're just hours away from a record jackpot and one businessman is offering a powerball promotion. the owner of a thai restaurant in richfield, connecticut is handing out powerball tickets with every meal.

>> but he's facing serious backlash from opponents of vaccines. may seem like an innocent picture of his dad. the caption says doctor's visit, time for vaccines. but when the dad is facebook founder mark zuckerberg, those five words carry much more weight. zuckerberg posted the picture of him with his new daughter maximum ma. that prompted those against vaccines to post some harsh comments to the new dad, among them injecting newborns and infants with disease and neuro toxins is disgusting science that injures millions every year. and shame on all of you and your souls. many antivaccine advocates claim there's a link between vaccines and autism. however, that's now been widely discredited. others thanked new dad for making the statement. while it's not clear if mark zuckerberg planned to make a statement on vaccines, but in the past he has addressed the issue saying the science is completely clear, vaccines work and are important for the health of everyone in our community i'm adam williams, 7news.
