the school superintendent now says they will be sending those students home for the rest of the day. right now they have to go sure there is no problems here. and at the same time, they have to get buses here to the scene as well. we are now being told that the students from methuen high school will be sent home early. as we mentioned here at the elementary school, back-packs from high school students have been laid out here on the sidewalk to be checked by a state police bomb-sniffing dog that just arrived here on the scene moments ago. students from the high school

both elementary schools to keep them out of the cold. now we are being told they will be dismissed and sent home for the day. all of this coming, as you mentioned, the second day in a row over in tewksbury. sky 7 hd over the scene there. we can tell you, there was the tewksbury high school there as well. and again, once again, authorities are following their protocol. they are simply not taking any chances at this point. keep in mind, this comes after several threats were made massachusetts. according to the state police, they responded to 15 different schools yesterday and 7 on friday as well. dealing with these various they are taking them seriously. local police are being assisted by the state police. and also the f.b.i. as well. now involved in this investigation. right now, nothing has been found. but again, officials here, both the school superintendent

are simply not taking any chances. with an abundance of caution, all the high school students evacuated were told to leave their back-packs outside of these elementary schools on the sidewalk and right now, state police bomb squad just arriving on the scene with those bomb-sniffing dogs to check out all the back-packs. all the students will get their back-packs after the all-clear. buses are beginning to arrive here. then those students will be let home for the day. again, officials here extremely upset by whoever is responsible for all of this. again, the f.b.i. taking all this very seriously. searching, trying to locate the person or the people who are calling in all these threats. or e-mailing them to these various schools. that is the latest live in methuen this afternoon, steve cooper, 7 news. >> sarah: preparing for a heavy dose of winter weather. snow has already blanketed part of the country. st. louis really got hit. now could the storm be headed our way? at this hour, things are cold

>> christa: now we have the strong potential for some snow this weekend. let's get the latest on the storm's track and today's conditions. here is chris lambert. >> chris: the farther south you travel, the better chance of seeing that snow over the weekend. 28 in boston right now. 24 in worcester. we have had plenty of cold air in place. no question about. that winds still gusting close to 0 miles an hour. windchill factors down in the teens. will remain cool and sunny through the rest of the afternoon. temperatures generally running close to 30 degrees. those windchills holding into the teens to lower 20's. blizzard watch now in effect from baltimore down through d.c. really honing in on the mid-atlantic. a very high risk of heavy snow and strong winds. in fact, blizzard conditions down from baltimore into d.c. that would spread up to close to southern pennsylvania and down into northern virginia as well. you notice we are right on the edge in southern new england of the risk of some heavy snow. i'll give you a moderate chance of seeing heavy snow

back into connecticut and rhode island. this storm will cut itself off in terms of allowing for the potential of the heaviest bands to ride north. and it looks like the heaviest bands may fall just shy of southern new england or just come on the southern new england coastline. if you ask me, are we going to see a plowable snow in it is still possible boston out through worcester. it is more likely farther south the lower you go. we will talk moren on this storm. the 7-day forecast coming up. >> christa: the countdown is on for the afc championship game in denver. as we get closer to this brady-manning showdown, the pats are dealing with a blow to their defense. also kind of a war of wards brewing right now. nicole oliverio is live at gillette. there was a news conference not too long ago. >> reporter: that's right, christa. as you mentioned, the words that were brewing. the broncos had some unkind

a man inside the house died. and in east boston, a fire breaks out in an autobody shop. the rear of the two-story commercial also. fire crews were able to knock down the fire but continued to check for hot spots. >> christa: right now, police searching for a suspect in that double shooting at a blue line "t" stop in east boston during the evening commute. cell phone video captures the panic on the platform when a man suddenly opened fire. two victims were scene... seen lying on the ground bleeding at maverick station. m.b.t.a. police say one man got off the train and then another opened fire while still onboard. then they say the suspect ran off, still shooting and that's when a second man was hit. >> i mean, people were trying to run back on the train to get away from the gunfire. people started dispersing everywhere. it was insane. >> the first instinct was one of fear. you know, is this a public shooting? >> christa: police believe the two men involved in the

for more of what to expect the next couple of days, over to danielle? >> danielle: low 30's as we head into the next two days. there. that is the good news. now, we are going to continue to keel with those gusty winds for the day today. especially as we head into the evening commute. coming home from work today. now, as we head into tonight, you can see, the winds are starting to die down. more of the blues working out west as an indication of. that that will continue through your thursday. still breezy, though. you will also notice those winds turn a little bit more northwesterly. we are still going to be dealing with windchills in the teens today. by tomorrow morning, they are dropping back down to the single digits. so this is what you need to dress for. now, our air is certainly cold enough for the snow. but we have had a lack of snow so far this season. by this time last year, we had 5.5 inches of snow in boston. and in worcester, we had over 13 inches. we could see some more snow as we head into the weekend.

>> chris: danielle, yeah. we have plenty of cold air in place. that won't be the issue. this season so far in boston, only 4.3 inches of snow. i don't think we will add tremendously on top of. that the reason why the worst of the storm will be down in the mid-atlantic. this storm's energy diving into the southeast. this will be the creator of the huge ocean storm off the carolina coastline. toward the virginia coastline. this is going to throw a ton of moisture back. there is a blizzard watch posted from baltimore down through d.c.. you noticed the sharp cutoff here in northern pennsylvania. that sharp cutoff likely going into southern new england as well. and there certainly is the consistency here on some of the forecast models showing that the worst of the precipitation, the farther south you go. where that tight gradient sets up, still not exactly locking in on that. the best chance of a plowable snow would be the farther south in southern new england you go. back through southeastern massachusetts, rhode island, down into connecticut.

worcester. the farther north you go, the least likely. it will be a sharp gradient. if that changes, it would affect what we expect. as of now, that is what it looks like. coastal flooding. expecting major coastal flooding to be an issue. down along the jersey shore. down to delaware and maryland. perhaps into the virginia coastline. farther north, minor coastal flooding during high tide. and perhaps pockets of moderate coastal flooding on the east and north-facing shorelines. even if the brunt of the snow stays to the south and the bulk of the heavy precipitation stays south of new england, i do expect the gusty winds. 35-50 miles an hour along the coastline. a couple of high tides to watch, saturday night, 11:00 p.m. and sunday morning, around 11:00 a.m. an astronomical high tide. saturday. and the winds out of the north, northeast here. may push in some of the water to give us that minor to moderate coastal flooding. as of now, that is the way it

>> sarah: three would-be car-jackers weren't ready for a ferocious florida mother. she fought them off as they tried to steal her car. >> christa: this mom and her kids are doing okay this afternoon, thankfully. the suspects are behind bars. here is how they were captured. >> >> reporter: this is what a determined mom looks like. watch as she grabs a would-be car-jacker and launches him away from her car. surveillance video shows the two men sprint across the tom thumb gas station parking lot and true toy car-jack a woman on the other side of the gas pump. she locked herself inside. the men then tried to car-jack that mom. she owns this red car. one gets in the passenger seat. the other in the driver's seat. the victim fights back and car-jacker. she fought back for a good reason. >> she was a mom. that bad guy didn't know in two kids. be taken. she fought.

just over an hour ago. >> christa: this comes after a string of threats were reported yesterday. we do understand the f.b.i. is already investigating those. let's go to steve cooper in methuen. steve? >> reporter: right. so christa, at this hour, we can tell you there are a number of developments including the fact that methuen high school students are now being sent home for the day. all this began unfolding... you can see a lot of students coming out of the buildings right now. this all began around 9:30 this morning. the school superintendent telling us there was a threat that was received by a teacher through an e-mail. and that touched off the evacuation at methuen high school. they were quickly evacuating. the 2,000 students and staff. they were sent out into the cold. officials being cautious here. nothing has been found. the students were moved to two nearby elementary schools in methuen. but told to leave their backpacks out on the sidewalk so they could be searched. state police bomb-sniffing dogs arrived on the scene earlier. checked out those backpacks

actually back picking up those backpacks. then they will be sent home for the day. of course, all this coming here at the high school after several other schools yesterday were dealing with the same story. we just spoke with the school superintendent here in methuen a few moments ago. >> i think i can speak for all superintendents. this is out of control. of course. we have to follow protocol. the children's safety is absolutely paramount. for every superintendent in the commonwealth. the disturbance for our students during the school day and staff is huge. it sets us back. again, we have to do what is correct. and this impacts a lot of kids, parents, and other schools. >> reporter: this is sky 7 hd over tewksbury high school. the building was put into an internal lockdown after a threat was made earlier. today, all tewksbury schools

according to the state police, 15 schools across the state yesterday received various bomb threats. there were 7 at schools on friday around the state. the f.b.i. is now the lead agency, looking into the person or people responsible for these threats that are being made. as we come back live. you can see, again, these are tewksbury... we should say these are methuen high school students who are basically going to the front of the elementary school here, picking up the backpacks that they were told to leave on the ground there. they were checked out and cleared by the state police bomb squad that was here earlier. and now, according to the school superintendent, they are letting the high school students leave for the day. again, out of an abundance of caution here. nobody is taking any chances. as you heard the school superintendent say, this is frustrating for them. it is frustrating for the superintendents and also for law enforcement agencies all across the state right now. that is why the f.b.i. is searching for the person or the people responsible for all of this. that is the latest live in

cooper, 7 news. >> christa: we are preparing for a heavy dose of winter weather. at this hour, we have cold and windy weather. but there is a strong potential for weekend snow. so for the latest on the track here, here is chris lambert. >> chris: the question, is how far north will it travel over the weekend? winds gusting to 30 miles an hour. yesterday, they were gusting 45-50. so yes, it is windy outside. not as windy as yesterday. windchill right now, 14 in boston. nine out in worcester. so this isn't the storm that is moving into the ohio valley now. that will drop snow down there. that pushes off to the east. what we are watching for the weekend is this energy coming out of the rockies now. pushing down toward the southeast united states. and eventually, up the coastline. in fact, so comfort there is going to be a big storm across the mid-atlantic, the national weather service has posted a blizzard watch for this stretch of i-95. essentially close to baltimore. heading down through d.c. and even points south. for us, in southern new

20-year-old. the crash happened back in 2013 in jamaica plain. a jury found that he was speeding when he lost control of his s.u.v., crossed the median, and hit a pick-up truck head-on. sentencing, by the way, set for next month. >> sarah: an appeal denied for disgraced f.b.i. agent john connolly. the florida supreme court will not hear the appeal of the former james "whitey" bulger handler. connolly was convicted in the killing of the president of a florida gambling operation. the 75-year-old was sentenced to 40 years behind bars. to that case. this appeal was his last hope. connolly was first convicted in 2002 for helping whitey bulger's gang when he was an f.b.i. agent in boston by tipping them off about investigations. >> christa: new at noon, stocks taking a dive on wall street today. the dow so far has dropped about 55 points. ... 535 points. stocks plunging on the price of crude oil.

we are watching the weekend. how much and if snow is headed our way, chris. >> chris: yes, indeed, sarah. the brunt of this storm will be down through the mid-atlantic. the question, is how far north will some of the snow get? 28 right now in boston. that wind is gusty at times. 20's to near 30 common across the area as we speak. you take a look at these winds gusting to 33 in boston. 23 in hyannis. 31 in norwood. 29 in worcester at this time. these numbers have been consistent all day long. in terms of some stronger gusts. we have held a lot of sunshine. a few clouds to work in. as we go through the overnight hours tonight. this is not the storm system that we are tracking. separate system and that one really affects us in new england. you note the air mass to the west of us, not a lot of change. you see these 20's extending back to buffalo, new york. the next couple of days, the atmosphere not changing all that much. we will lose a bit of a breeze. we will hold temperatures running into the lower 30's. not a lack of cold air heading into the weekend. for more on what to expect

as we head into the weekend. chris, back to you. >> chris: we all know last winter was a slow start. you know where we finished on that one. not seeing that big turnaround. we could be aing some snow as we get into saturday evening. and saturday night. take a look at the forecast here. and what's going on across the rockies. this energy will be diving southeast. grabbing gulf of mexico moisture. atlantic moisture. there will be a low pressure system off the carolina coastline. off the virginia coast. that is quite intense. this is going to drag a lot of moisture back and dump a lot of snow in the big cities, essentially from philly to baltimore. down into d.c. now, the key to this is going to be the track of the low pressure. if it's this far south, and starts to slide east, there is only so the heavy snow can get. right now we are on the edge of the heavy snow line across southern new england. in fact, i would say, you know, the biggest snow totals from this, likely coming out of the mid atlantic. when you get your way to long

snow. your chance of heavy snow diminishes, the farther north you run. the best chance of a powerful snow here, down across southeastern massachusetts. running across rhode island into connecticut. still possible to have enough in boston out through worcester. major coastal flooding expected with this storm just because of the prolonged on-shore winds down there and the strength of the winds. we will get a strong northeasterly wind. late saturday, saturday night. and into sunday morning. out of the northeast and into the north. we may have pockets of minor to moderate coastal flooding. especially east to northeast-facing shorelines. like scituate. even sandwich harbor there. we will watch that for the high tides coming in at 11:00 saturday night. and 11:00 sunday morning. especially that sunday morning one. as we have had a chance to push a lot of this water toward the coastline.

now, this storm itself, to be that strong, that far south and to close off, meaning it doesn't have much more room to work its way northbound, that means that we are right on the edge of where some of the heavier snow can go. and there is going to be a huge gradient from hardly any snow to some heavier snow. the best chance to see some heavy snow tries to work on into new england. we will get through long island and perhaps the south coast of new england. so if you live, especially, along route 44. down into southeastern massachusetts, highest chance to get the shovels and the plows out as we get into the weekend. north of the mass. pike, that chance will diminish the farther north you go across northern massachusetts up into southern new hampshire. regardless, it will be windy. especially down the coastline. into sunday morning. guys? >> sarah: all right. that will do it for us. thank you for joining us today at noon.
