11:01 pm
this powerhouse storm and usually when you're on the edge, there is a drastic cutoff to the amount of accumulating snow. where is the snow right now? it will carve out moisture and pick up moisture and once it gets to the east coast, the storm will really explode. and then from there it is a challenging forecast. because the whole time we'll have arctic high pressure just north of boston. it will set us up for a couple of cold days but at the same time it might actually act like big brother and not allow the storm to come barrelling up into sorn new england. if the h wasn't there, if it was farther north, it would be an easy forecast. but the challenge is being on the edge of the storm is just how far north does the accumulating snow get. it's going to come into the south coast with ease and i think it gets to about the pike saturday evening and saturday night and because of that, that's where you're going to find most of the accumulating snow along the pike.
11:02 pm
north of town i think the dry air chews up the snow, so a few it. wind will be another issue and minutes. >> as the storm gets closer you can get the updated track on whdh.com and the 7 news mobile >> anybody would have done the same thing. thing. >> he was tackling trouble off the field. >> darius flems made an amazing roadside rescue. the linebacker saving a woman trapped in the car. what's even more incredible is he hurt himself and still managed to play in the game. we have night team coverage of his incredible story. let's start with susan tran live
11:03 pm
he was leaving practice when he stopped to help the woman and she was grateful he did. >> i was inside a trapped vehicle. >> reporter: she was trapped in her car filling with smoke. >> he gestured that he would kick the window open for me. >> reporter: it was thursday around 430 on route 1. patriots of linebacker came upon a crash. smoke. she couldn't get out and i realized the smoke started to build up inside. >> the accident was right here. >> reporter: witnesses came rushing out. as the woman was trying to get out of her car, which it had locked and it was smoking, a black truck pulled up behind it, a man got out. he was in sports, a winter hot and a patriots shirt. >> reporter: the victim in the car wants to remain anonymous but says the door to her old car wouldn't open and she was stuck and scared.
11:04 pm
minute period of oh, wow. to be in. and i am ever so grateful that he was able to be there and he that way. >> reporter: kicked the passenger two to three times and the woman rushed to safety. >> the lady was climbing out the window before we leg was out the window. i want to say i probably scratched it on the way out. >> the officer did observe blood on the glass and on the window frame. >> reporter: darius needed 22 stitches but still played on saturday. his only concern coach being mad but didn't think much of his off-field save. >> i don't need any accolades, anybody would have done the same thing in my position. >> reporter: no one else in the three-car crash was hurt, but police say the woman that darius fleming actually helped save was the one responsible for the crash so she was ticketed for
11:05 pm
suspended registration. >> players first heard his story in the locker room and say they were pretty impressed. >> reporter: well, kim, the team says fleming tried to keep the story on the don't low, what he finally did share, he says what he did was simple. the patriots players have always considered themselves a tight-knit team. for them when one plays well, they all win and that goes for their actions off the field as well. >> darius was really quiet about it, but once the team got hold of it, the guys on the team we forced him to give a speech and everything. >> reporter: sometime after practice on thursday, linebacker darius fleming did fill in his teammates telling them he pulled a woman to safety after a car wreck. >> when we got the hero's speech. he gave us his account of what happened. a lot of cheers went on. so it was a happy time for us. >> reporter: they say knowing fleming like they do, they weren't surprised at all. >> you look at darius and the
11:06 pm
he treats people, he's a tremendous young man. so we're obviously all very proud of him. >> reporter: with 22 stitches in his leg. >> he'll admit there was probably some easier solutions he could have done, but i think it was nice. nice and dramatic kick the window and pull her out. >> reporter: fleming put the job. he went on to the grid iron to help the team defeat the chiefs. a true pro both in work and life. >> how about that? speaks a lot -- again, it speaks a lot to his character and who he is as a man. >> reporter: and it's unclear exactly when fleming decided to share this story with his team and whether or not that impacted their tremendous play on saturday. >> saturday's game could be the last time we see brady and manning battle it out. it's a clash of the quarterbacks for the ages. our sports director is here with a closer look. >> brady and manning share a healthy rivalry.
11:07 pm
they were both baited today but neither bit. >> there's only two teams left standing so we feel like we're one of the best steeples, they feel like they're the best team. that's why it makes for a great game. >> as much as he would like to stick to the x's and o's, tom brady canned avoid the crushes of questions about his 17th duel with manning. >> i wouldn't compare it to any of those rivalries, but i think playing someone 17 times is pretty cool. especially someone as great as him, to play against those peyton manning teams, you know you've got to play 60 minutes and you're going to be in for a tough game. >> you'll get a similar but slightly sillier response from manning. >> it's an uncomfortable comparison for me to comment on. i grew up a huge larry bird and magic johnson fan and had some
11:08 pm
and magic in their very short shorts. all i can say about tom brady is that he plays the position the way it's supposed to be played. >> and bill bill elichick says the same about manning. >> there's no player that i have more respect for than peyton manning. his preparation, his consistency, his skills. i would never, ever, ever under estimate him under any circumstances. >> the ultimate compliment from bill belichick a respect that's bej earned in 16 meetings. >> new tonight, we're learning the refs from saturday's playoff game against the chiefs at gillette may have dropped the ball. >> it's been nearly a year since the deflate-gate drama all started and now we are talking about footballs at yet another patriots game. apparently the officials left for the game over the weekend
11:09 pm
the hotel. the hotel reportedly found the footballs and air pressure gauges around 2:30 saturday. the hotel called state police and a trooper escorted the stadium. so everything made it there by 3:30, just one hour before kickoff. >> all right. stay with 7 news for the pats in the playoffs. weekend. so you can see their live reports right here on 7 news. >> we're following breaking news right now. a pedestrian was hit and killed on route 9 in framing ham tonight. jadiann thompson. >> reporter: route 9 is closed down for several blocks, police are diverting traffic at this hour. police tell us there was one car involved in this. a lot of damage done to that one vehicle. you can see it to the hood, all
11:10 pm
the damage through the windshield. state police just finished taking photos of that vehicle a short time ago and launched as a tow truck came and hauled that car away. but the investigation is still active tonight. we do have one victim because it is so early in the investigation, the identity of that victim has not been released. ham. >> also from the night team, another school scare in massachusetts today as more threats were called in. police not taking any chances lining up students' backpacks, bringing in bomb-sniffing dogs. >> reporter: today's threat was e-mailed to a teacher saying there would be pipe bombs and shots fired at police. >> it was really terrified that i had to -- they had to search my stuff. >> reporter: sky 7 hd over a disturbing scene. hundreds of backpacks laid on the sidewalk and being searched for bombs.

11:19 pm
friday a mix of clouds and sunshine near 30. they actually had snow in dc this evening. not from the big player, that's over here in west texas and this will move across the certain plains, pick up moisture out of the gulf of mexico and up the eastern sea board and really intensify. we've got cold air coming out of canada and the water off the eastern seaboard has been running warm this winter. when you have that cold air up against the warm water, a storm will form and really intensify. normally without the arctic high pressure, this would come right up across the canal and it would be a classic situation of a foot of snow or more in metro boston but that isn't the case. we have high pressure and it's going to block the northward progression of the storm. so that's why it is a challenging forecast because we're right on the northern edge. and i think you folks in southern new hampshire you never really get into the storm. meanwhile father south, the south coast, you're in the storm.
11:20 pm
the storm, but still 3-6 inches. even out on portions of the cape and you come up the south shore the numbers will of drop off. 1-3 inches. north of town certainly route 2 north a few flurries and perhaps maybe just a coating. the challenge will be a slight shift in the storm the whole thing will have to shift and rearrange our numbers and colors. the thinking wednesday night again for saturday night is that it's not a major event with a small amount of snow around the metro. wind will be an issue. out of the northeast between 20 and 30 miles per hour. 30 to 40 miles per hour city of boston 45 to 50 miles per hour on the cape and the islands. that combined with the astronomical high tide this weekend, two of them saturday night and sunday morning, that might lead to minor coastal flooding especially boston, as we get closer to the weekend we
11:21 pm
your 7 on 7 forecast in any event, blustry in cold both saturday and sunday. out in colorado you going out to a lot of clouds. a couple of isolated showers at kickoff. 3:05 temperatures in denver, lower 40s. >> so "star wars" fans eager to see another movie will be forced to wait. disney announced it's going to be pushed back. episoet viii will hit theaters in december. "the force awakens" has made more than $1.8 llion around the world. that includes the $861 million it made right here in the u.s., making it the biggest domestic film ever. >> so joe, you're going to get to go to the game and miss the storm. lucky guy. >> i'll be heading out saturday

them in a position to play their best. it's not easy to go there and win but we're going to give it everything we've got. >> the book is closed on who's got the upper hand but peyton has one last chance perhaps to go out on a high note in their 17th and likely final meeting. as you would expect he's got nothing but praise. >> i know how hard i've worked to play this long and so when i look across at the new england patriots and see tom brady i know how hard he's worked as well, to play as well as he has over the course of his career with the success that he's had and their team's success, i have a lot of respect for him. and he's earned that respect. he and bill belichick have earned all the respect and accolades that they get. >> say what you like about the barely-average boston celtics, a team that's once again competing for the final spots in the east,
