this is the storm timing. ittarts mid to late afternoon saturday. patchy light snow and flurries that is the case overnight saturday night. here is the storm right now moving through the southern states. it'll move to the eastern seaboard and intensify. high pressure arctic high pressure, arctic beast because it's not going to allow this storm to come barreling up into new england. the h. wasn't there, then, i would be talking about a foot of snow but that is not going to happen. the storm gets forced out south of new england because pressure. the same high pressure that brought us sunshine today and again tomorrow but even with that said we'll stilling dealing with some snow. saturday most of the day is dry but we'll get into some patchy light snow boston south along the south shore. notice the shades of purple deeper along the south coast. the lighter shading around metro that is patches of light snow and flurries which the dry air will do a great job of chewing up the snow and not allow it to

we'll have the snow going on late saturday evening, overnight saturday night and it pulls out of here quickly sunday morning. how much snow is on the way? not a lot of change to the forecast. a coating to an inch around the metro. 1-3 inches south site of the metro. route 3, 24 then you get down into buzzard bay, the south coast 3-6 inches of snow likely by sunday morning. a lot of wind as well. northerly winds between 30-40 miles an hour saturday night and sunday morning. the concern with the wind is that it'll pile water to the new england coastline. for two high tide cycle, 11 p.m.saturday and 11:00 a.m. on sunday. that might lead to minor coastal flooding late saturday night and through the middle of sunday afternoon. more, we'll keep you updated on this. for more on the storm here is bri eggers. >> reporter: seriously we're dodging a dig one here. the storm has been very

today, even tornado warns in effect and you can see the powerhouse storm in the gulf coast states. the risk for severe weather does slide farther to the east tomorrow but a slight risk for seeing some of the damaging winds, large hail for us today. no tornado reports. just for large hail and damaging winds. as we head through the timeline storm starts to pump the snow up as we make it into tomorrow afternoon through sunday morning. so this is a long duration event for the mid atlantic states. those winter weather watches and warnings are in effect all across the area. from even northeastern louisiana stretching all the way up to the nation's capital. bliz around warning in effect for metro dc. that hasn't happened in this area blizzard conditions since 2010 which was known as snowmageddon. it could top the list top two snowstorms for the area on record. j.r.will be back to give us

the woman who lived in the so-called house of horrors in blackstone facing a jum. she is accused of killing two of her babies. stayed her daughter asked a judge to drop the murder and reckless endangerment charges against her. they say there is no evidence show starved or harmed her kids. the baby's bodies were discovered in the boat in blackstone in september of 2014. police found the rooms filled with trash, clutter and feces. her other four children and boyfriend were living in the home at the time. >> kim: the father of the little girl known only for months as baby doe called to court. he is accused of shop listing in december. police say he stole more than $250 worth of tools from home depot. police arrested him days after he attended the funeral of his 2-year-old daughter bella bond. the toddler's body was found

the girl's mother and mother's boyfriend are charged in her murder. >> adam: also another school scare to tell you about methuen high school, a student makes a fake threat. officials say the student wrote a copycat threat similar to others that have been made against schools in massachusetts. officials say the student admitted he wrote the threat to get out of class. classes went on as scheduled today. this comes after a string of recent threats against schools across the state. yet methuen high school was evacuate and every student had their back pac searched because of the a threat. >> kim: also on 7, the hands-free debate goes on as the state senate reviews a new bill today. the bill could cost drivers more than ever. the fines seem to be one of the main points of debate. the bill calls for a fine of $100 for the first, $250 for

every violation after that. after that offenders could be hit with an insurance sur charge. drivers under 18 are banned from using devices already and for those 18 and older texting and driver is illegal now. the bill would only allow for drivers to use a phone in hands-free mode. manually entering special no a gps while driving would be banned. there are exceptions in the bill for emergency situations. so if the bill becomes law massachusetts would join 14 other states that ban the use of hand held electronic devices while driving and as you can see by the map here that includes connecticut, new hampshire and vermont. >> adam: massachusetts governor charlie baker will deliver his first state of the state address tonight. among the topics the governor will be speaking about, combating owed yesterday addiction, increasing the use of hydro electric power. the remarks begin at 7:30. watch his speech right here

happen pockets of light snow and flurries arriving mid to laid afternoon on saturday. there will be steadier snow happening saturday evening and saturday night but you notice it never makes much advance north of the mass pike and even up here i think this might be overdown. the computer models sometimes they don't give enough respect to the dry air. again it's all about respect. so the dry air chews up the leading eng of snow. because of that a coating to an inch around the metro, 1-3 inches of snow on the south shore. this will be what is on the ground when you wake up sunday morning even though sunday morning there might be lingering flurries on cape cod but the brunt of the storm is out of here. 3-6 inches of snow abeing lo the south coast windy conditions saturday night and sunday morning. cape ann as well as cape cod dusting 35-50, worcester hills gusting around 20-30 miles an hour, that will be northeast wind shoving water to the new england coastline watching to astronomical high tides.
