so, the snowfall forecast overnight has not changed too much. a little further to the north we've nudged snow totals but we're still looking at the bull's eye from philadelphia to roanoke and everywhere in between. the storm itself has really cranked up overnight. we did not have any bad trord s tornados, but the snow portion has begun and it's are rapidly going across north carolina and this is the icy portion from charlotte to fayette vill and this will be the concern today into tomorrow. and we have the blizzard conditions later tonight in areas of virginia and then the ice portion is going to be very bad today in the carolinas. >> let's go to nbc's jay gray in roanoke.

for snow to start in the next hour or so and continue through saturday as bill talked about the emergency management team believes they'll see a record snowfall, some saying they could see as much as 30 inches, all active and uniform state police are ready for action. thal ey'll stay out through the weekend and expect to be on the road and working after this snow starts to fall a bit later this morning. we also know that more than 500 vehicles are out and on the roads preparing for this, trying to keep them as clean as possible. everyone in this region saying if you don't have to be on these roads, don't. it's going to get very messy and again, not expected to stop until sometime late sad. turday. now, with just 10 days to the iowa caucuses, establishment republicans are taking sides.
