>> christa: breaking news. report of an active shooter out in san diego. it is believed to be happening at or near the naval medical center. and a spokesman says gun shovts were heard. good afternoon, everybody. the details are just coming in. >> sarah: police, of course, are still on the scene. kris anderson live with the latest details. >> kris: christa and sarah, a lot of information developing this noon. the naval medical center in san diego warned now of a possible active shooter early this morning. we want to go straight to you

you can see the facility right here where an apparent active shooter situation is going on. a spokesman confirming that shots were, indeed, reported fired in that facility about 8:00 this morning. they cannot offer further details at this time. non-emergency personnel are advised to avoid the area if possible. there is a very heavy police presence. you see a squad car there rolling on to the scene. we have seen swat teams move. in the building houses offices and barracks for wounded sailors and marines as well as a gymnasium there. a lot of roads closed in the area as well. this was a warning, though. that the naval medical center posted on facebook, we want to share that with you. "attention, an active shooter has been reported in building number 26 at naval medical center in san diego. all occupants are advised to run, hide, or fight." all non-emergency response personnel are asked to stay away from that compound. nmcsz staff is comprised of more than 6,500 military, civilian, contractor, and

continue following this situation. again, that was a live look. active scene. this happening there in san diego. we will bring you updates as soon as more information becomes available. kris anderson, 7 news. >> christa: kris, thank you. closer to home, a developing story out of quincy this afternoon. where five people are now in the hospital. after an explosion, a massive explosion that happened at a fire in a water treatment plant, we understand. so fire crews have worked through the night, and they are still there putting out those flames. >> sarah: even right now, the burning continued. this is yesterday afternoon. jonathan hall live outside the plant with the latest details. jon? >> reporter: well, sarah, christa, good afternoon. the good news here is that the water supply is just fine. and nobody was seriously hurt in that explosion. the fire happened here on quincy's nut island yesterday.

to be a very difficult fire. 21 hours after the explosion at this sewage treatment plant, the quincy fire department is still struggling to completely extinguish a fire. the flames are hard to get to and deep underground. the massachusetts water resources authority has brought in a strong crane to remove concrete slabs in the rubble and hopefully, provide more access for firefighters. >> the goal is to let the firefighters fight the fire from the top down. part of the issue is the fire is inside duct work. so it's very difficult. there is still flames in every time they find a way to get water into the dock, it >> reporter: when the blast happened, some suffered smoke inhalation and eye irritation, but should recover fully. >> those guys were right down there when it popped. apparently, all kinds of stuff flew all over them. they had trouble breathing. thankfully, we got them out.

firefighters haven't been hurt. >> reporter: the fire is about 50-100 feet below the ground crews worked through the night to uncover those concrete slabs which are some 14 feet long and five feet wide. >> the goal is to pull those panels off sometime by midday. let the firefighters get in there and put it out once and for all. then we will assess the damage. >> reporter: suffice it to say, it is going to take some time. this facility screens sewage that comes from towns south of boston before sending it through a tunnel about five miles to the deer island plant in winthrop. we are live from quincy, jonathan hall, 7 news. >> sarah: a hit and run sends a victim to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. the collision happening in lowell. jennifer eagan live in lowell with more. >> reporter: sarah, that suspect will be facing a judge here at lowell district court soon.

hit a 40-year-old man in the crosswalk on thorndike street last night. condition right now. police say the man is homeless. he was flown to beth israel in boston by a med-flight helicopter. the driver, a 22-year-old left the scene and turned on to another street where he allegedly hit a car with a woman and two children inside. ages six and ten. now, they weren't seriously hurt. they were treated on the scene. police pulled the man over a short time later. his windshield was smashed. he faces several charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, causing serious bodily injury. that is a felony. he was speaking with his lawyer ahead of his arraignment a short time ago. he is expected to go before the judge here soon. live in lowell, jennifer eagan, 7 news. >> christa: a bus plowing through a building in warwick, rhode island leaving behind a mangled mess. three people have been course. scene. exactly what led up to this

here is byron barnett. picking up the pieces while investigators look for answers last night emergency responders took down the roof of this unstable building after a warwick city bus plowed into it. the two people inside had only seconds to react. >> what's going on? is this guy going to stop in we realized it wasn't stopping. we kind of, like, heard the horn and dodged for our lives, literally. the bus hit a pole on route one and then careened across the road and into this building. which houses a paint-ball business and an auto parts store. >> the ground shaking. to be honest with you, when things like that happen, people say you see your life flash in front of you eyes. it happened in slow motion. >> the bus driver and two hospital with serious injuries. >> lower extremities. the main trauma. there was no life-threatening injuries to anybody involved.

at the end of the day, you know, we have insurance. it is only money. we can rebuild. we can fix everything. luckily, nobody died from it. >> reporter: investigators trying to figure out what caused the driver who has been on the job for 30 years, to lose control. manny rosario is grateful his wife and baby left the building minutes before the bus hit. >> i thought about my daughter. i have a six-month-old newborn. ariana, i love you. you will see this one day when you are older. that is all i could actually think about. i thought about her. i saw everything happening. >> reporter: investigators are looking into the possibility that the driver had some sort of medical problem that caused him to lose control. in warwick, rhode island, i'm byron barnett, 7 news. >> sarah: breaking news. sky 7 live over a water main and gas main break. this is in waltham. it is on river street in waltham. and police say there are no now. but obviously, street closures.

there are some delays in the area. but of course, we will continue to follow this breaking news. again, a water main break in waltham on river road. >> christa: also new at noon today, police up in manchester, would-be robber on the run. a dunkin' donuts worker says a man placed an order and then demanded that she open the cash register. when the worker refused, the man jumped over the counter, tried to open the register himself. he wasn't able to get to the money and then ran away empty-handed. >> sarah: police investigating bomb threats last night. at south shore hospital, police searched for anything suspicious. we are told there has been no threats made to any schools. >> christa: coming up at noon, a robber caught on camera making a surprise attack. how long he hid out before this violent incident unfolded.

>> christa: crews in china helping animals keep warm while they are hit with some of the lowest temperatures they have seen in decades. staff using blankets and heat lamps and special cases to help the animals beat the cold. they even brought some snow inside. looks like the pandas are kind of having a good time playing with it there. >> sarah: those pan das lover the snow, chris. >> chris: they do. enjoying it a lot there. two feet down in the zoo in d.c. the panda bear rolling around, sobing it all up. 47 in boston. 50 in norwood this afternoon. hey, we are a long way away from snow this afternoon. temperatures already running close to 50 degrees in many towns. in fact, melting the snow that is on the ground right now.

that is the tradeoff today. the wind and the clouds. wind at 33 miles an hour in boston. occasionally gusting to 2 in bedford. attracting a couple of west of worcester. as well as in southern new hampshire. a lot of this stuff fading out. as it pushes into the dry air. that is in place. you may catch a brief passing sprinkle or shower. i don't expect much as we go through the rest of the afternoon and into the evening hours tonight. that is it. tomorrow morning, starring off with clouds. by late morning through the afternoon, a mix of sun and clouds. a gusty wind. tomorrow afternoon, temperatures not moving much. we will start the day off in the 30's. and pretty much hold in the upper 30's to near 40 in the afternoon. how about this afternoon? holding mid-40's to lower 50's. mostly cloudy skies. mild and breezy. then tonight, temperatures only holding and falling back into the 0's. not that cold overnight tonight. looks like as we go into tomorrow, pretty much starting off with some clouds. temperatures in the 30's in

30-40 miles per hour, these are gusts. then as we head into the overnight hours, they are kaup down a bit. tomorrow morning 9:15, still a little bit of a breeze. but not too bad. this is pretty much how it will stay for much of the day tomorrow. we are keeping an eye on a storm as we head into the end of the week. for more on that, chris, back to you. >> chris: the thursday night, friday morning set-up across the east coast. and right now, we are watching two separate systems. one front in the air... and the area of low pressure off the coastline the other system just off to the north and west. if this were to dive fast into the south and east, it could capture this storm and bring it close to the coastline. doesn't look like that is going to happen. these systems remaining separate. this one pretty much exit stage east here. too far east to give us a lot of snow and wind across new england. although the smallest system, the weaker system as that moves across, on friday, that could trigger some snow showers around here on friday. in terms of any major storm system, becoming less and less likely here on the 7-day

>> sarah: caught on camera: two men with weapons in hand. two men got out of their cars in the middle of the road. one with a bat. another grabs a pole. the witness who took the video says the fight started when the made made gestures to each other while stopped at a red light. the fight went on until light turned green. then the drivers got back in their cars. >> christa: now another story caught on camera: fast policeman in western ohio hit by a track or the-trailer. the officer was directing traffic and crews were cleaning up an accident. that is when this happened. you see the semi going around the pick-up truck. the back tires get caught in the train tracks. a train off-camera plows through and pushes the truck. that is what happened there. so here is the good news. the officer does have a gash

but luckily, he is expected to be okay. >> sarah: i forget i'm on tv sometimes. it is hard to watch. >> christa: it is hard to read, actually. >> sarah: a hidden danger caught on camera. a robber hid in a store for 90 minutes before this violent frightening attack. today officers are using clues to try and find that robber. >> christa: the employees are recovering after the trauma, as you can imagine, of having a gun pointed at their heads. >> reporter: it is december 23. he is already plotted his next move. >> the store closes around 11:00. the suspect is seen entering the store around 9:30. so he remained hidden inside the store all that time. >> reporter: at 11:00 p.m., the lights in the store shut off. the two women in the back office then hear a loud noise. >> the assistant manager of the store went to exit the office to go see what the noise was.

video, the man barges in gun in hand. and begins to terrorize these two women. >> reporter: he demands the money. the assistant manager starts opening the safe while the other employee just lays on the ground. >> you can't help but just feel horrible. especially for the cashier who is down on the ground and he is standing over her. you can see how her legs are just shaking the whole time. she told our detectives or our deputies that she communicated to him that she wanted to go home to her baby. and he said "as long as you foul thesestrucks, you will be going home to your baby." >> reporter: the robber demands cell phones. then grabs all of the cash. you can see him struggling to pick up the money. >> he reaches into the store, grabs the gift bag. bag. along with all the cell phones. >> very frightening. frightening. you know, for someone to point a gun at you. >> reporter: police believe he got away in a red s.u.v. infiniti fx 22.

primary two weeks away. that is out shows the front-runners with big leads on the democratic side. bernie sanders is ahead of hillary clinton by 16 points. on the republican side, donald trump continues to dominate. he has a 33% lead. competitors. ted cruz and john kasich combined. jeb bush, marco rubio, and chris christie have less than 10% support. boston's two biggest front-runners. and endorsing other g.o.p.

it is kind of warmer out there than we are used to. we could see some windy conditions as well. chris, checking in on the rest of the afternoon. how is it looking? >> chris: you hit the nail on the head. 47 in boston. 50 in norwood. we will get close to 50 in the here is the wind. gusting at times close to 30 miles an hour. there is the tradeoff. near 50. spring day. we also have that wind to contend with and some clouds. every once in a while, a couple of sprinkles and brief showers trying to get going. you see one from worcester north and east there. up into boylston. this one sliding to you folks in marlborough. perhaps clipping concord with a sprinkle or brief shower. overall, the atmosphere fairly dry and anything we get limited to a few minutes there. in terms of a brief shower or a couple of sprinkles outside. dry wednesday and thursday. a chance of some scattered snow showers on friday. overall, the theme here today, mild day. windy day. 50 degrees. low 40's tomorrow afternoon.

byron barnett, 7 news. >> sarah: relatives of the miss mag reen from hingham will be returning to massachusetts from hawaii. christopher oral's family members will receive a police escort to hingham. police in town are welcoming people to line parts of main street, east street and summer street to show support. orlando and 11 other marines are presumed dead. after two helicopters collided in the air off the hawaiian coast earlier this month. the coast guard called off the search last week. >> christa: harvard university closing the case of an alarming vandalism that happened back in november. administrators could not find the person who placed black tape over these photos in the school's law building. investigators believe the suspect was, in fact, targeting photos of african-american faculty members. officials say they conducted interviews. they examined photos. they came up with nothing. the law department does say that security cameras will now be installed in the building in the near future. >> sarah: police in dedham

dog is found abused and out in the cold. animal control officer found the dog monday afternoon while responding to a call. the dog now known as stitch is suffering from severe starvation. he is being treated at the animal rescue league's boston shelter. officials say stitch had no collar and is about two years old. they say he could have easily died if someone didn't see him. police are now trying to figure out who abused him. they are asking anyone who recognizes stitch to give them a call. >> christa: police worcester investigating a terrifying encounter. during a home invasion. police say a mother came home with her one-year-old baby thursday only to find four men inside of her house. her two other children, a 13-year-old and 7-year-old were in their rooms at the time. the men allegedly put the family in the bathroom, stole jewelry, from the home and then took off. >> two of them were in the apartment. while these four suspects were there. they didn't know it. that was a little unnerving. we are looking into it.

there. we are trying to find out what their purpose was. >> christa: police are still searching for the suspects right now. >> sarah: new details: the owners of the sunken cargo ship has reached a settlement with ten of the crew members' families. including a local man's family. the company will pay avenue family $500,000 after they claim the ship had been overdue for repairs. the family of winthrop native keith griffin on the far left of the screen is include in the settlement. according to nbc news, cases are still pending with 23 other families. the kingston native and a brockton native were also on the ship. >> christa: 13 people rescued off the coast of southeast florida from a sinking yacht. this happened monday night near the town of lauderville by the sea. a coast guard officer said the whole yacht sank. about 25 minutes after the final person had been rescued. officials say this is an area where they won't be able to recover it.

stretch was averaging 11 degrees below average. what snow we had, it was settled down. and some of it was, you know, melting a little bit. not much of it. we had overall, a lot of locations, 30-40 inches of snow on the ground. even after it was compact with all of that snow. at least the days are getting longer in terms of daylight hours here. by the time we get into february 22, sunset close to 5:30. sunrise close to 6:30. a little bit longer here with the daylight lingering through the month of february. 50 degrees in norwood right now. the winds are gusty. close to 0 miles an hour. we will have breezy conditions throughout the day. that has been the tradeoff. otherwise, a pretty quiet day. mid-40's to low 50's this afternoon. 30's tonight. a stray shower or sprinkle.

expecting breezy conditions. we will keep an eye on the storm for later on in the week, how that will impact us. back to you. >> chris: danielle, essentially, we are watching two things thursday into friday. one storm across the midwest. one trying to form along a front down through the southeast. and this coastal front here, along the eastern seaboard will have a couple of areas of low pressure right along it. if this area of low pressure was able to dive down, grab this and pull it to the coastline, we would have a bigger storm. pretty far between the two storms. looks like that will merge. too far off the coastline. however, i expect a couple of snow showers right here on friday. perhaps a few afternoon otherwise, warmth and the weekend. >> sarah: subway and amtrak trains are battling frozen tracks. 13,000 flights are grounded with many airports expecting days of snow melting before everything goes back to normal.
